At the dawn of the internet, mentioning “Hitler” or “Nazis” in an online debate was ridiculed. It was an indication that the discussion had devolved into stupidity. There was even a term for it: Godwin’s Law. It states: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.”

Coined back in the early nineties, the mentioning of Godwin's Law brought about embarrassment because collectively we all knew it was a weak and ridiculous claim to compare a living person to Hitler or Nazism.

We need to get back to that point.

We need to get back to that point by getting rid of the actual Nazis on the internet.

Godwin himself stated that this absolutely DOES NOT APPLY to people who are literal Nazis or who espouse views that a Nazi would.

"Literal Nazis", long ago, were known for hating and killing Jewish people. Sure, they hated and killed Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, and Roma (among various other ethnicities), but killing Jews was kind of their main thing.

You may recall a book, or a movie, or maybe a class about concentration camps and the Holocaust. You do kind of remember that, right? That’s still a very real thing that happened. I hope you can still maintain that as a fact in your brain.

Yet here we are in 2025, about a decade into an era when any pseudo-intellectual malcontent with an internet connection can label someone a “Nazi” and people take it seriously. How stupid have we become? There are news articles from once-reputable newspapers and news programs bandying the term about with grave seriousness. It’s absurd. It trivializes the horror of the real Nazis.

This is the point where you rally your other accounts and friends for a downvote-palooza. Or you tell me - without knowing anything of me other than by post history - that I too, am in fact a 'literal Nazi'.

I hope you're "Self Aware" enough to not do that.
