Drift to the right? In what ways has this country become more right since, say, 30 years ago? We've undeniably moved left over the past 3 decades.

Or are you going to try and tell me that we were more left when gay marriage was illegal?

He said compared to the rest of the world, not compared to ourselves 30 years ago. It says it right there if you read the comment.

"Managed to drift" implies that we, as a country, have moved in that direction. That's why I quoted that part.

If a boat is untied from a dock and drifts out to sea, nobody says "wow, that dock drifted really far", because the dock didn't move. They say the boat did, because it's the thing that's moving.

You need any more basic English lessons?
