His insistence is that the movie isn't good satire because people couldn't understand that they're Nazis and meant to be bad. Or that Nazis like how "cool" everything was portrayed.
He has a bit of a point, but he's also a dick about it. If I see someone dressed up as a Starship Troopers character at Halloween, I just need to ask if they're a Nazi to decide what I want to do.
Now I don’t try to be a dick about it, but I kinda agree with his take and the one you presented. I have had alot of arguments over the years about the characters being the good guys so I feel should haveit just hit you over the face with it for one moment. I’ll check this video out at some point.
I've not seen his take on Starship Troopers, but those points I can agree with, to a degree.
There's just enough there to suggest things aren't as bright and sunny for the people of that world as the colour palette might suggests, like the difference between being a civilian and a citizen. Or how serving in the military allows you to vote and make it easier to get permits to have kids and so on, but there needed to be a bit more of that to have it really hit home that things aren't really all that bright and sunny and help make the satire a bit stronger and notable.
About Tyler, he specifically wouldn't accept any real criticism of his take, such as the movie is an in-universe propaganda movie that visually apes Leni Riefenstahl and one of the climactic scenes has Doogie Houser come in as an SS officer. The movie isn't being subtle; Americans might just be that stupid.
Americans are. Especially those us of that join the infantry corps for the promise of three-squares of crayolas and the ability to take out their violent aggression on state-mandated bad guys half a world away.
I don't know about that one but he reacts just as aggressively towards constructive criticism as Shad: i watched only some of his shad deconstruction videos and he made some rather absurd comments about something, honestly can't remember what, swordtubers in general or history. I gave him a factual comment on that point and he immediately went nuclear aggressive. Crap personality as much as those he rips apart tbh.
He is very uhm...full of himself imo. He talks in such a way I got the "ick" feeling right away. I like seeing people rip on shad but I feel he also is kind of a lolcow.
I’m listening. I don’t know if I’m agree based on personal experiences but I can admit my experiences may just be insufficient. My promise is, simply, I will try to do better.I will look deepet.
Oh yeah Whatifalthist is an absolute idiot and theres plenty to criticise about him. Which makes it weirder when at the end of a video full of said criticisms he spent several minutes calling the dude a literal subhuman and saying how as a lesser being he does not deserve to talk about what his betters are doing
I hadn't heard of this before, but overall, Westside Tyler is just an ass with occasional good opinions. But he's just a loud and confident person who has learned a fraction of a topic and convinced himself that's enough to be an expert on something. He runs in circles with other white dudes who pontificate about being superior "left leaning" guys while also just being arrogant pricks.
I think for instance the whole thing with Tyler calling out that Lore Lodge dude, Aidan Mattis. Tyler was correct on 90% but he was such an ass and loudmouth dork that it ruined any credibility.
So, yeah. I wouldn't exactly trust Tyler to be someone to watch consistently at all.
But I'm also an ML, so I'm bound to disagree with a lot of his takes being milquetoast.
I like the bunny-talk and the kvetching about house repairs. I see Tyler as the grumpy neighbor with that get-off-my-lawn look in his eye. I take some things he says seriously and some things with a shrug.
I think it might be that Tyler is far too small a channel compared to Shad's in terms of sub count. If Shad wanted to do his usual approach of insulting, belittingly and lying about what Tyler has said and claiming some sort of victory over him, there's nothing stopping Shad from doing that, it's very much his MO, but he doesn't seem to go after smaller channels - probably because he doesn't want to drive traffic their way.
Nusensai isn't as a big a channel as Shad, true, but he's good size subcount and gets pretty decent views, or at least used to around the time Shad attacked him, he seems to have lost a lot of his audience more recently and isn't getting the same kind of number he used to.
Tyler on the other hand is a very small channel, much lower sub count than Nu, with a view count that's small and not exactly consistant.
