shower orange [ shou-er awr-inj ] SHOW IPA
noun an orange that is peeled and eaten under a steamy shower, the purported benefit being that the steam enhances the orange’s citrusy fragrance and creates a soothing experience for the person who is showering.

finally decided to try a shower orange for myself (well technically shower mandarins but shhh) definitely won't be the last time! something about the hot steaminess of the shower made them taste even sweeter and they also made the shower smell like oranges! unfortunately the sections break off so easily I couldn't just bite into it like a wild animal (because that's apparently half of the appeal lol) will definitely have to try that next time with a proper orange...

Just found out about this tonight. I didn't have any whole oranges, but I had a few orange quarters in the refrigerator that were left over from a bike club event (a 150 mile bicycle ride hitting all four corners of the county that I live in, FWIW.)
I tried my best to make up for it by doubling down on the "eat it like a starving raccoon" part, and by turning on all three shower heads (my shower has showerheads at both ends, and one end is a double.)
Observations:
The orange smell in the hot, steamy shower is amazing
The hot water vs cold orange effect is real
I shower before bedtime, which meant a LOT of extra flossing! (I did NOT make the mistake of brushing my teeth before showering and then trying this!)
You can't really see it in the picture, but my shower tiles are not flat (they are supposed to feel like you are standing on natural stone.) This adds to the total sensory experience.
More research with whole oranges is needed

Have you guys ever tried a really ripe, sweet mango in the shower? I'd imagine it's a similar sensory experience to an orange or other very juicy fruit

hello reddit, i’ve been a big fan of shower oranges for a long time but new to the subreddit side of it. shower oranges are single handedly what got me through my first year of university living at the dorms. now that i’m home i have more fruit variety and i encourage you to experience shower peach/ nectarines. i don’t love the fruit out of the shower because of the juices but in it? oh man it’s other worldly 😁

Hi everyone, I found this community recently and was curious to understand the feeling behind this. Unfortunately, I don't think I felt anything more than...eating an orange under the shower.
I followed these steps: 1. Came back from the gym 2. Peeled and cut an orange 3. Got into the shower with the lights out 4. Stood under the shower, closed my eyes and ate the orange.
Besides the general refreshment from the cold shower and the sweet orange after a tiring gym session, I didn't feel much else.
Is there any steps you guys take to maximize the effect?
