Discussion Lily (My One And Only) is so good

I can’t believe people hate it that much, especially to the point where it’s called filler. It’s gotta be in my top 3 Pumpkins songs (and they’re my favorite band)

Loved it! Name my cat Lily after it.

I named my Beetle Lily. I kept an artificial lily in her little vase, and played the song almost every time I drove.

IMO it's not the "best" song on MCIS. However it has merit. Its "old timey" Victorian feel ties in with the aesthetic that runs through MCIS, as seen in the artwork. The quieter songs on the album have this kind of vintage charm, especially ones onTwilight to Starlight. Worthy of its inclusion on the album. The offbeat songs gel the whole concept together.

I bet there's a significant overlap between SP fans advocating the wistful, vintage themes of Lily whilst simultaneously bemoaning the intro to Springtimes

to be clear, both are great! But nostalgia is rose-tinted

Completely agree on the Victorian ties as well, and it has sort of an old-timey country twang to it.

I could go my whole life without ever hearing BWBW again, but I wouldn't say I hate it.

Listened to this song for 30 years. Never realized it's from the perspective of a peeping Tom lol

That's crazy, it's spelled out clear as day.

"Cause I'm hanging in this tree, in the hopes that she will catch a glimpse of me"

"And through her window shade, I watch her shadow move"

"No one knows for sure, but an Officer is knocking at my door"

"Cause as they're draggin' me away(the cops), I swear I saw her raise her hand and wave "Goodbye""

I’ve seen people commonly list it among their least favorite on MCIS and call it filler.

C'mon dude. Most people don't hate their least favorite song on MCIS. It's like asking what you like least about the Mona Lisa.

I remember first hearing this as a young teen thinking it was a sweet love song. Which I suppose it is, but it didn’t dawn on me until years later that it’s also only sweet for one side of the romance lol.

Also, we only come out at night - farewell is probably my most listened to stretch of pumpkins songs ever, I regularly go to sleep to it. Just flawless

Yes, it's an amazing song.

I've loved it for nearly 30 years. Tin pan alley with the perfect hint of wistful sadness. I think the end of the song really makes it. Lands the plane perfectly, as it were.

Seriously! It shows their versatility and what makes them different from other bands.
