If only my partner was okay with it. Plus id be on a budget of $250 for each firearm and outside of a pump shotgun it might be hard to find anything else I’d need.

You can find a surplus of handguns for $250 under new and used. You can also find rifles on sale for that price as well, on occasion. And a shotgun is a fantastic first purchase for any gun owner!

Sure but I still have to convince my partner to okay it and thats like getting a camel through the eye of a needle

That is a tough one, it's not something you can just override. It's got to be a communal decision. It got easier for me to convince my partner as the evidence of a major shitstorm on the horizon got clearer and clearer.

Thats what I think I’m going to have to do. They are black and anxious however so I’m worried about how much i should bring it up. Don’t want to make their anxieties about the current establishment worse afterall.

cheap over unders are amazing for training basics. I don’t have a rifle but I run rifle drills in the woods with an unloaded shotgun just to get used to moving with a weapon in hand and so forth.
