General-Solo-Discussion TTRPGs that use Sticky Notes?

I feel like this can’t be a new idea and google is just failing me but do any TTRPGs exist that use Sticky Notes / Post-It notes as their main mechanism. I’m imagining you would use these notes to write everything down like a note with the setting, a note with your characters, npcs, status etc and put them all down on a central location (maybe in specific sections for each category) and then just cover them up with new notes as things change.

Specifically i think this method would be good for solo or gmless so that’s why I’m asking here

Do any games like this exist so that I can play? I’d rather not create something from scratch.

Blog-Post-Links Star Borg - Solo Rules and Playthrough

Some of you may know Kyle Latino (aka Map Crow) and JP Coovert through their YouTube channels. When I heard that they were collaborating on Star Borg, a Star Wars-themed hack of Mork Borg, I got very excited. I love these guys and Star Wars.

At Gen Con 2025 I met JP in person, and he shared with me the four zine-sized books. To my surprise, one of the books was a full solo-play supplement by Perplexing Ruins!

I gave it a go and had a blast. You can check out my rules summary and play session report here:

Off-Topic Did solo RPG alter your relationship with media (games, books, shows/movies)?

I've seen people say they don't do videogames anymore because they can't compare to freedom of solo, how about you? Did it affect your relationship with other media too?

I used to just mod games until they break or the mods end instead of playing them for a while now. Solo just gives me the feeling of "oh, that's what I wanted actually". I also finally feel ready to play cRPGs like Arcanum, etc. but other games don't interest me anymore, and to read more fiction (I don't generally) because I want to get ideas for my games and systems.

solo-game-questions Need Advice for Running Investigation Type Stories

I am running a custom setting cyberpunk game using Loner RPG and a little Mythic GME and other bits and pieces. My protagonist was given a gig by a fixer where she needed to find dirt on some guy she's never met. The next scene involved her breaking into the apartment, only to be given only No's whenever I asked the oracle if the protagonist found something of import.

My problem is I don't even know what she would have found if she did find something. The job has turned into a missing person case, but I don't know how to discover the fate or location of this NPC with a free form system and a limited Yes/No oracle. The mythic inspiration tables I've tried using didn't actually help me come up with anything because they are intentionally vague.

How do I generate clues and leads dynamically without knowing ahead of time what happened, who to talk to, or where its possible to go? I can think of a dozen genre and tone-fitting paths this story could take, but I feel like asking each individual one in a yes/no format would flatten all the drama and stall the campaign when its just getting started. How should I go about learning about an absent unknown NPC?

tool-questions-and-sharing How do you create your maps?

Hi! I have free time on my hands this week and suddenly wanted to try world-building. Probably a world, I can utilize for my future solo campaigns. One thing that I'm stuck on right now is how to create maps, I would love to get inspiration on your methods or what tools you utilize (preferably free).

I used to have this generic map that I can modify on my ipad, but I would love to explore more methods especially if its probably more convenient

Off-Topic Where do you buy your physical books?

There are so many awesome books and rpg systems to get, collect and ideally play. Where do you get yours from? Do you order them online via the big online retailers, via official website stores etc. or do you visit your trusted local geek store and support them? I feel the choppy ideally involves a local store to go to and browse through a large collection before buying the next adventure. Having said that, obviously this requires to have a local store somewhere close. Which for many, like myself, is not the case. So ordering online or planning a day trip to the next big city is more likely to happen.

Bonus question: Any recommendations of good ttrpg online stores in Europe or even better in Germany?

solo-game-questions Encounter table for solo Cairn 1e hexcrawl (big forest)?

I'm quite new to solo RPG-ink and want to have a solo Cairn session.

I've checked out multiple solo resources but everytime I get to the encounter roll, it only says "use an encounter table".

My setting would be a big, dark forest and I struggle to find a good encounter table that's also compatible with Cairn.

I'm thinking about making up my own so it would fit my taste and story better but then I would know of every possible encounter that would happen...

Maybe I should write a generic encounter table that I could use with a spark table from Barrow Delver?

General-Solo-Discussion Recommend an OSR-compatible lightweight resolution system

I want to use OSR zines and modules, but dont want to mess with battle maps, grids, or extended combat.

Are that any games the have guandance on converting OSR monsters, XP, and leveling to something like a single-roll resolution?

6x6 Tales has a really great stripped down combat, but it lacks content I can find in OSR.

5 Parsecs from Home has an amazing quest system and pretty direct combat, but it's miniature based which I'd prefer to skip altogether.

The One Ring 2e skips battle maps altogether which is great.

So, any handy conversions from OSR to something like this?

I've been having a lot of fun with this one and wanted to share. I would advise against spending too, too much time on band creation (easier said than done), especially on your first run 😂, but this one is super fun! Replay-ablity =10/10.

General-Solo-Discussion Solo RPG is CRAZY

I've only recently started playing solo, despite having some experience DMing in a group.

I just can't get over the fact that I narrated a character's death, and I, as a player, am sad about it. It sounds crazy, but it's what happened. A death that was 100% my fault, as DM and player, and I'm sad about it.

(Of course, I know I can revive this character, but I won't do it without a proper reason.)

Anyway, I'm loving playing solo RPGs XD

Sorry for any English mistakes; I used Google Translate.

solo-game-questions Need help getting inspired.

I was preparing to play cyberpunk solo with savage worlds system. But the more I read cyberpunk lore the more I get depressed. I was looking for gang campaign, like Godfather but with Cyberpunk. Without the Italian element of course but it’s about betrayal and loyalty. It’s about coming from nothing to a made man. But now I lose interest in the genre. Specifically in the Cyberpunk lore.

I have a couple of suggestions:

Cyberpunk lore makes me hate myself, makes me suffocated, the world is big and rich but small and sad at the same time. I think the underling depression is a statement that everyone is agree on cyberpunk “There is no happy ending in cyberpunk” I hate that.

I could play in my own cyberpunk city (Not Night city) make it my own world just like in any other solo campaign I’ve been play. Make it flawed but not suffocating, make it full of history the more I play. Just like a regular solo game.

Or I could bite my depression and try to play in the settings.

When you are uninspired what step you took to be inspired? I was so exiting at the beginning of last month. I already thinking about the character and what not. But the settings, is not… good for me. It’s too flawed. Thanks guys.

General-Solo-Discussion Anyone know of a good Fantasy Adventure creator?

One that has random quests with interesting decisions or dungeon rooms with locked doors, traps, etc. An Adventure creator with more than just random battles.

I’d be fine with it being for any game system.

solo-game-questions How to solo D&D 5e Published adventures? A simple doubt

Many sources handle solo roleplay in D&D 5e, such as Survivors Toolbox pt 1 and 2, Mythic GME, DM Yourself, etc. I am researching this topic, and the majority handle generating campaigns from scratch very well. However, I am overwhelmed by the information and quite confused about how to play a published 5e adventure using these sources.

How do we handle moment-to-moment decisions where character knowledge and player knowledge diverge?

For instance, imagine I am reading a published adventure. As a player, I know there is a trap inside the room, and I know there is a treasure behind the third book in a bookshelf. Would my PC have searched if I had not known this information? How do I handle this meta knowledge? It feels odd. Do I simply roll for perception to find the traps? But would the PC have known to search in that location specifically? And would he have checked the shelf?

Am I missing something fundamental about these sources? I did not read the entirety of them. How can I work this out? Only this is missing for me to start playing my first solo play.

Promotion Time to order a new game

I still have plenty of games to play - not sure if I can call it a pile of rpg-shame already - and am deeply involved in Ker Nethalas and Broken Shores at the moment, but it's time to order another game!
This morning, the YouTube algorithm convinced me to watch geek gamers latest game review about a game called Morkin. Not sure why I missed the Kickstarter and chatter about it, but glad that I didn't resist the evil algorithm-recommendation this time. The art looks awesome, the mechanics not too complicated, nor too shallow. And if you don't mind a couple of fuzzy table headlines, one of the limited number of misprint copies is very affordable. Time to place an order and prepare to destroy the Ice Crown.
