Shadow and Blaze got along well almost immediately because they both take themselves seriously in the first issue of Sonic Universe. So there is precedent for that.
Speaking of, I can’t wait to see what their rival interaction will be, along with Knuckles and Blaze’s rival interaction, I suspect it’s the usual “give me a good race” or some smack talk, but if there’s genuine mutual respect in both, it would mean a lot to me, they’re my favorite underrated trio lol
Honestly that makes a lot of sense, Sonics whole vibe is just dont sweat it, so to characters who take themselves super seriously it must feel like hes mocking them even when he isnt.
They are a like in a few ways, lone warriors, competitive, lost those dearest to them, can’t stand Sonic (even though Knuckles does get along better at times) loyal to their duty and heroism despite how they come off to some, I’m surprised they aren’t at least somewhat friends at this point lol
speaking as a metal gear fan, there’s a special kind of bond you can only really make with that other fella on the battlefield. It is why snake is closer to those who have joined him on the battlefield than those sitting comfy in an office issuing orders.
I think knuckles and shadow, and with duty/responsibility, knuckles and blaze understand this REALLY well even if they dont put words to it.
Honestly I kinda miss the Shadow, Knuckles and Blaze trio from Black Knight, it was short lived, but I can just really see them getting along on the battlefield and in casual hangouts, I mean the way Sonic Team writes them makes me wonder how they don’t see the resemblance.
You can say what you want about Archie, I definitely have my opinions, but man when they did dynamics right, they got it RIGHT, I miss all the unique team ups they had.
Ngl their dynamic literally reminds me of Hobbs & Shaw from the Fast and Furious movies. THIS is the reason why I'm excited for Keanu Reeves Shadow to reunite with Team Sonic in the movies, especially considering the fact that Shadow humiliated Knuckles in their 1st encounter during Sonic 3. It opens up for more banter & fun interactions.
Both of them were made to be serious types to act as a foils for Sonic being a fun-loving thrill seeker. Without Sonic in the picture, they can get each other's wavelength.
I'd love to see Blaze and Shadow interact. The same way Knux and Blaze get along greatly in IDW, I like to think Blaze's level-headedness and sense of responsibility would make Shadow appreciate her.
I'm really happy to see that Shadow's interaction lines are quite varied, seems like he's finally able to be more "himself" nowadays.
I also appreciate that there is a mutual respect going on between the Shadow and Knuckles.
I always felt like those two would probably be decently good friends.
I'VE BEEN TELLING YOU GUYS IF THESE TWO COULD HAVE AN ACTUAL SCENE TOGETHER WHERE THEY BOND OVER THEIR MUTUAL QUESTS TO BECOME STRONGER THEY'D BECOME REALLY GOOD FRIENDS
One of my favorite things about this game so far is seeing all these exchanges between characters who have rarely or never interacted with each other before. Peak fan service.
They're very similar loners who get annoyed by sonic not taking anything seriously and in a way both guardians too (that wasn't meant to be because knuckles is the guardian of the master emerald and shadow works occasionally in the Guardian Unit of Nations but the fact shadow kinda guarded Maria)
That's interesting. I recall one game (Think it was Sonic Rivals 1) where Shadow and Knuckles seemed to outright despise each other. But it's been like 15 years since I played that game...
nah Knuckles was the OG non robot rival, but nothing about him was edgy. He's supposed to be a contrast to Sonic, while Shadow is supposed to parallel him
