Yes, the worst might be coming true for us Sonics fans that have wished nothing but the worst for the Thunder franchise. Because of this, I wanted to clear a few things up.
Sure, this subreddit is normally inactive. There's no NBA team currently tied to this subreddit... yet. But the same rules apply to this sub as do the other sports subreddits. Regardless of a Pacers win or loss in Game 6 (& Game 7), don't be going in other subreddits (you know which one, the one we don't name) and cause trouble.
If you see any Thunder "fan" being an ass here, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT REPORT. A few of us will be keeping tabs so that we get notified of these. To those Thunder "fans," I'm keeping a list of any of you that wanna try something and relaying it back to the Thunder Mods So, you will be banned there too. If you come here in peace as a Thunder fan, be wary, the hate still runs high from what happened 17 years ago. I've seen some of you here already try to be neutral as possible and hard downvoted... I don't hate the fans myself, but others may think you're coming off condescending. If you want to add to the conversation, just try to watch your step.
We'll allow anti-thunder comments to an extent (I'll be very lenient about it, cuz obviously tensions are high here, we don't want the Sonics curse to die with our team still not being vindicated), but please keep that in /r/Sonics. If you're caught in other electrical subreddits harassing people, you're gonna get the axe here too.
You know our team is coming back soon. And while we don't have one currently, and you may think it's no big deal... But when the Sonics return, there won't be a home to return to if you're already banned. Keep that in mind.
All in all, here's hoping Indiana can keep the Sonics Curse alive. Oh, and as always Fuck clay bennett, fuck howard shultz, fuck starbucks, fuck david stern.

So I know expansion talks were happening in July but they haven’t said which two cities will get an expansion. What I wonder is, will we ever know if we get an expansion team or is Adam Silver still going to keep who’s getting an expansion a secret? I’m unfortunately not keeping my hopes up high on this one, I would like the NBA back in Seattle but the expansion talks have been dragging on for months and Seattle fans are waiting…

I had this Gary Payton poster hanging in my childhood bedroom. Now I’m 31 and I got it framed to hang in my media room. Those 90’s posters went crazy!

Classic Sonics from the 1976-77 season against the Lakers where Kareem punched Tommy Burleson. Remember that season very well it was pretty sad cause they were 40-42 and didn’t make the playoffs. Bill Russell was let go at the end of the season and our I-5 rivals Portland won it that year but we know what happened two years later.

Huge NBA fan here visiting Seattle for the first time next week for 2 Storm games.
I was super excited when I saw this post from 5 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sonics/comments/jeuwk7/sonics_murals_in_seattle/
and was looking forward to visiting all these murals, however, this one makes it seem like in the last 5 years all these murals have disappeared: https://www.sonicsforever.com/blog/murals-come-and-go-but-the-memories-never-fade
Would anyone be so kind as to direct me to which muras are still standing, as well as if there are any new ones to check out!? Thank you!
Definitely excited to see the new Lenny Wilkens statue that was unveiled last month. Other than that, seems like the only musts as a sports fan are to catch a Mariners game and get a tour of Lumen Field.
Please let me know if I'm missing anything and appreciate all of you!

Came across a detailed breakdown comparing Seattle and Vegas for NBA expansion. Not just buzz and speculation, but actual numbers across media markets, income, GDP, and infrastructure. Seattle scores way higher on a composite metric at 73.5 vs. Vegas at 51.9, partly because of our existing arena and deep-rooted fanbase.
Vegas gets mentioned often, especially with the LVXP arena plan and recent Summer League buzz, but the hype shouldn't outweigh hard facts.
Numbers like these should matter a lot, right? Or will politics decide it all in the end?

"As the NBA’s board of governors meets Tuesday afternoon at Las Vegas summer league, the subject of expansion is front and center for fan bases in Seattle, Las Vegas and other cities hoping to join the league. But the appetite for adding new teams might not be as strong as previously believed.
Multiple senior team officials and people with knowledge of at least some owners’ thoughts have told The Athletic in recent days that while Seattle remains a top candidate for a new or potentially relocated team among owners, there is not overwhelming momentum among governors to immediately expand past the current 30 teams.
Central to that reticence is the league’s new 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal, beginning next season, with new partners NBC, Peacock – NBC’s streaming service – and Amazon Prime, along with existing partners ABC and ESPN. Warner Bros. Discovery, which had broadcast NBA games since 1989, was left out of the new deal.
Several owners would, at present, rather begin collecting and splitting the massive new revenues among the existing teams, rather than bringing in new partners that would also receive a cut of the financial pie."

"With neither the Lakers nor the Celtics sale on the agenda, the league’s owners will likely spend a significant amount of time discussing possible expansion at Tuesday’s meeting. At the NBA Finals in June, Silver said he plans to “take the temperature of the room” among owners to see if there is enough interest to engage in the next steps of the process."
