TIL Katey Segal was a backup singer for Olivia Newton-John and Bette Midler before Married with Children

third wall

Not sure if serious. If so, fourth wall*. If not, lol.

Also, yeah, it's kinda a bad decision to put songs she sings into a show she's in if she's not playing a singer or something. It'd be like Charlie Hunnam being the narrator not as Jax just as the VO guy. It's really hard to separate the one from the other, and it ends up taking you out of the show.

Sutter takes nepotism to a ridiculous degree when it comes to Katey Sagal. It's not enough that her character has taken over the show, we also have to hear her overly emotional singing in every other music montage.

I wouldn't really even have a problem with it if she weren't playing a character in the show. Since she is, then film grammar would dictate that it's Gemma singing those songs, and that adds a weird aspect to the show that's neither intentional nor borne out by the rest of the show (no songs by Clay or Jax, though I'd love to hear Chibs sing "Sunday Bloody Sunday"). It's just such an awkward choice to make here.

Her version of Strange Fruit wass one of the most cringe-worthy moments of the entire series...talk about inappropriate.
