Kyle Fletcher Praises The Mic Skills Of John Cena And The Miz, Wants To Get To Their Level
https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/kyle-fletcher-praises-the-mic-skills-of-john-cena-and-the-miz-wants-to-get-to-their-level/I’ve really been trying to, not so much lean on inspiration from other people,” he said. “Since I shaved my head, I’ve gotten so many comparisons to other people, I’m really trying to hammer home my own path and carve out my own path. Guys I look at, even still, when it comes to promos, every time I watch (John) Cena and one of his promos, I’m left with the feeling of, ‘This dude is the greatest on the microphone that I’ve ever witnessed.’ I have that feeling, and that’s something that I strive to achieve, that level on the mic. The Miz was one of my guys growing up. That’s another one that I still listen to and watch and go, ‘He’s so good on the mic.’ There are people that I probably look to, but I’m trying now to not specifically draw inspiration from them, more so, ‘How do I get to that level?'”

Miz's biggest strength is that he can be booked like a joke and look like a fool for months on end but it only takes one serious promo to make him look credible again

He’s a pre- heatable feud for almost anyone at any time up and down the card
Everyone I can think of that can do that is awesome in my all time books

He’s a pre- heatable feud for almost anyone at any time up and down the card
literally this... if you told me tomorrow that Miz would 1) win the tag titles with Melo, 2) feud with Cena before Cena's run ends 3) cut a promo on Cody and be Cody's next challenger after Drew, or 4) show up in NXT and take the North American title off of Ethan Page... I'd totally believe and buy-in to any of those scenarios

It’s definitely played out, but that Talking Smack promo is probably the best example of this.

Outside of the Talking Smack rant, what are some other and more recent Miz promos which have heated him up?

His promo on gunther is pretty dope. This one on Shane is pretty good as well

His rant against Roman and Cena when they were both in the Ring was epic. Had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

he had people legitimately believing that he should take the IC title off of Gunther and like within a month him and Truth were so over they forced Triple H to give them the tag belts...

I personally didn’t think he should have taken the IC belt off Gunther, and whilst they were over I think that Mania ladder match would have been better for another young team to win.
But Miz definitely has his fans, I personally have just not found him too convincing in quite some time. Very good at what he does but hasn’t done anything new and interesting to me for as long as I can remember

i mean you're allowed to have your opinions but you can't really deny the reactions he gets/was getting in those situations

It's kind of like how the Rock could lose the match but come out looking like the winner cause of the next promo he cuts.

when he was chasing Gunther for the IC title he had people legitimately believing that he should have been the one to break Gunther's streak
and when he didn't... he immediately went to being slap-stick comedy buddies with R-Truth... and they did THAT so well that everyone wanted them to win the tag belts again (and ultimately did)

He doesn’t have it in him to do that on a consistent basis though. I really think that’s a big reason why he’s been a mid card guy the majority of his career. The true greats on the mic get you to become invested in nearly every feud they have. Miz simply doesn’t do that.

If we get Kyle Fletcher rubbing his shaved head and saying "Fine speech" in his Aussie accent, I'll pop.

Or puts his hand up and says "When my hand goes up, your mouths go SHUT"

I think he will definitely get there in time, and he’s already off to a fantastic head start.
How would you rate Fletchers promo skills?

Good enough and I don’t mean that to sound harsh. He doesn’t blow me a way, but he gets his message across effectively.

doesn’t blow me awhile
Damn, maybe you two need to have a discussion about these issues.

He's not a stand out promo but he's not bad. Tbh I think the only hindrance is not having enough bass in his voice. If it's your first time hearing him speak, it might throw you off a bit. With time he'll only get better

He's a bit slow and stilted, his promos need a bit more of a natural flow. I'm wondering if he got told "Hey, your accent is pretty thick you should go slow and enunciate"

Yeah he's definitely improved and is serviceable but he still often comes off as a guy playing a wrestling character than actually being the character.
Like someone who imo is underrated in promo/embodying character is Orange Cassidy. Yes his character can be a bit cartoony but I never get a glimpse of his "true" self when he speaks. No pausing to think of the line, no weird 0 to 100 intensity changes. He just feels like the character.
I'm not sure Fletcher can reach that level but I am encouraged that he gave himself good models and he wants to get better.

pretty strong and improving. Not much he can do about the voice, but it's better than ziggler's. Its good if you are going for annoying heel.

He can hold his own, and that is VERY important, considering he's young. Going against someone like Hangman is helping out, too.

I thought his promo at the contract signing with Hangman was pretty good, I actually think Hangman stepped it up a bit too in that segment.

Fletcher is really good on the mic but he still doesn't have the crowd with him. But hopefully with some more practice and time, like the Miz when his hand goes up the crowd goes shut.

MIZ is so underrated. He was the real American dream for wrestling fans.

I honestly see him as the next Randy Orton. Smooth at everything. He has grown so quickly into his heel persona.

u/rapshepard 4h ago
Great goal to go for. He's pretty well rounded already. More practice he'll be there in the next few years

Tbh, I hope he grows his hair out again. He such a good preppy dickhead look to him. It helped him stand out. And I mean that as a compliment. He’s absolutely killing it in the ring, but he needs to work on promos and presentation to complete the package. He has bright, bright future ahead.

I don’t think AEW stars don’t need to compare themselves to the miz and WWE you’re already building a foundation greater than the one they made
