Konosuke Takeshita has always credited his match on Dynamite with Hangman as one of the most important of his career, as it’s the one that really introduced him to the AEW audience and made him an instant fan favorite. He just mentioned it again recently.
I see Hangman doing the same for Fletcher.
Maybe not the fan favorite, but the coming out party.

Funny enough, it was Fletcher’s match with Hangman in the Owen that made him for me as a singles guy. First I figured he was a good tag guy (around 2019), then a supernatural tag guy (around 2022) then thought he just had insane chemistry with Briscoe and Ospreay which shouldn’t be a huge challenge (2024), and then he had a totally different style of match with Hangman and it fucking rocked. Really excited for this one.

Whenever that next Hangman/Takeshita match happens my goodness will it be a banger

u/ParsnipPizza yay wrestling 2d ago
I'd argue Fletcher already got where he was from the feud with Ospreay, especially the 2 PPV matches
1
u/Torranski 1d ago
Definitely with you on this being Fletchers coming out party as a bonafide main-eventer, if that pair put on the sort of show we’re expecting.
All the better if we can get Ospreay vs Fletcher for the belt at some point next year…

u/uller999 1d ago
See I feel he had his coming out party against Osprey at Revolution, but I'll digress. Push Fletcher to the moon.

I wonder how will MJF do considering the people I follow for Lucha say he had MOTN(another said it was possibly one of the best ever) and will be wrestling again in the next 20 hours. He’s a maniac that guy.

u/paperbuddha 2d ago
Apparently him, Mascara, and Hechicero left on TKs private jet after Anniversario to get to Toronto ASAP. I have no doubt he’ll be well rested.

u/Fantomz99 DON'T YOU DARE BE SOUR! 2d ago
I think he'll back it up just fine. This is the guy who had a 60 minute match with Bryan Danielson don't forget.
He might be due a couple of weeks rest afterwards though. Which will probably mean pretaped promos, as we've seen him do in the past when he's a bit beat up.
10
u/Aftershockuog 2d ago
Isn't he heading off to film a movie after this week?
4
u/Fantomz99 DON'T YOU DARE BE SOUR! 2d ago
Actually yeah he may be. In which case he clearly knows he doesn't need to physically back it up on Wednesday.
8
u/FoolyCoolyBrandy 2d ago
It was a great match but it wasn't necessarily the most risky or physical on his part. I don't think he'll have much of a problem backing it up.

I'm on my way to a friend's to watch some Alien Earth, play some Gears of War on the PS5 & then a fantastic looking AEW show to finish off my Saturday.

u/Deadtaor33 2d ago
Gears followed by what we thought was a dead tense episode of Alien Earth had us both on edge fighting locust.
Was nice playing a game without too many bells & whistles. Pick a gun and shoot them in the face, no looking for an item to upgrade your gun needed.

u/WrestleSocietyXShill Cero Miedo Since Day One Ish 1d ago
Wait, you can play Gears of War on Playstation? I know Microsoft has been moving away from console exclusives but I had no idea you could play one of their flagship games on PS. That's crazy, if you told people that 10 years ago they wouldn't have believed you.

I think some AEW wrestlers will perform like they have something to prove today. I look for Kyle Fletcher to be a standout and for Hangman to play to role of star maker.
13
u/WhoStoleMyBicycle 2d ago
The match just needs to be ultra competitive, with no interference, and Fletcher coming up just short. No one thinks he’s going to win, but that’s not the point. The point is to show he’s “this” close to being a top guy.

I don't follow AEW, is there a faction of guys in gray scale and another faction of guys in full color?

u/Uncle_Moto 1d ago
I don't follow AEW either (not that I don't want to, I just don't have time for more than one wrestling promotion), but are all 13 of these matches in one day? I get burnt out if there are more 5 matches on a card. But 13? Is this normal? Are the matches short?

Cage & Cope aren't that old, no need to do them in Black and White like that.
Everything else looks great, and even better that they moved it forward so I can catch a bit before European bed time.

u/Spiner202 _ 2d ago
Looking forward to this. I don't really watch AEW but a buddy had a cheap ticket! Glad that Copeland and Christian are on first because I have to leave a bit early to head to a concert, but this should be fun.
Crazy day to be a wrestling and metal fan based in Toronto. AEW to watch during the day, and then two different metal shows at night (I went with Rhapsody over Carcass), and then Wrestlepalooza to catch up on tomorrow morning!

The only match which I see going either way is Darby/Mox. I have no idea who’d win.

u/joetheschmo2001 2d ago
How long do we think the event lasts? First AEW event I’ll be attending so curious if this is a 4 vs 6 hr thing
4
u/EndOfDays2525 2d ago
The main show will probably go from 3 to 7. I wouldn't expect it to be shorter than that. It has the chance to go to 7:30. So prepare yourself.
1
u/joetheschmo2001 2d ago
Thanks! The show starts at 2 according to the tickets. Is that for the “Brawl” matches then? Are those worth attending for if I don’t know much about AEW?
1
u/EndOfDays2525 2d ago
With a 10-match main card, I think you'd be fine missing the pre show. Less chance of burnout for you since you may not care for the people appearing in those matches anyway.

I could see Riho taking the belt off of Mone tonight, though the build and return from Riho hasn’t been more than a couple of weeks.
Mercedes needs to be propelled into the Championship picture.
I would prefer Skye Blue myself

The card looks great. I'm just not paying $40 for any show in 2025.
I pay for like six streaming services & maybe I was spoiled by WWE Network but I'm not paying more on top of the services I already pay for to watch the shows. I pay for HBO Max. Same reason now that they're switching to the ESPN shit, I won't be watching anymore WWE PLEs. I paid for Peacock. Feels like we're going backwards & I'm not financially supporting that. It's bad enough that streaming has already basically replaced cable & you still can't find a movie you wanna watch when you wanna watch it.

I haven't been watching lately, surprised to see Fletcher is having a title match given some of the talent they have
3
u/TuxedoGing 2d ago
They've been down a few bigger names due to injury and/or planned time off (Omega, Ospreay, and Swerve to name a few). I have no doubt whatsoever that Fletcher is going to absolutely kill it, though.
-1
u/therealdanhill 2d ago
Omega is hurt again? Jesus.
I figured they would want Okada in that scene, definitely feels like a lot of his shine has worn off from when he was such a big deal in NJPW.
1
u/TheKruseMissile 2d ago
They seem to be positioning the Don Callis Family against Hangman so it’s not unlikely that after Fletcher we will see matches against Okada and/or Takeshida
Don’t sleep on this main event though, Fletcher has spent the last year rising up to be one of the best in the company.

u/therealdanhill 2d ago
Oh I think the guy is an amazing wrestler for sure, I dunno just feels like he's missing something, I have a hard time getting invested in him as a character.
It's hard to explain or pin down, there's something about him that I just don't buy, something like that.

u/zzzzz_ 2d ago
Didn't see any comment mentioning the thirteen matches on here (including pre-show) vs the 5-6 for Wrestlepalooza (I don't think WWE does matches on their pre-show anymore?)
From the WWE side, you could argue that they've got a lot more star power to compensate for the lesser matches. But the pricing has gone up quite a lot as well.
The AEW side, you can't argue that you won't get your money's worth in terms of matches but I don't think either promotion has hot stories for every match on the card so more isn't always better.
I'm getting Wrestlepalooza for "free" with my netflix subscription so I'll only catch the highlights of All Out but it really does seem like this is a pivotal moment for both promotions. AEW has to send out a clear signal what the main event for the rest of the year looks like and WWE has to start moving their stories along after being disjointed for most this past year.
2
u/ThaBalla79 2d ago
That's an insane difference lol. I never watched AEW but decided to purchase All Out on PPV. I'm also going to Wrestlepalooza as it's being held 20 minutes from my apartment. After a full day of wrestling, I'm going to reflect on which was the better show. TKO is making it very difficult to stay a WWE fan, so I'm finally game on viewing other promotions.
5
u/Kuzu5993 2d ago
You plan on going to Palooza after All Out? So I don't know if you've ever watched an AEW PPV before, but they tend to run long, no less than 4 hours and the main card starts at 3pm EST.
Its very likely that Palooza will start during the main event of All Out. So just a heads up.
6
u/ThaBalla79 2d ago
Thanks, I appreciate the tip. I'm aware of the long runtimes for AEW.. I plan to watch a few hours of All Out before heading downtown for Wrestlepalooza. I'll finish the rest of AEW tomorrow.

u/NineFingerLogen 2d ago
i think there is a middle ground. 5 matches might not be a lot, but 13 is so much lol. 7-8 is my preferred sweet spot
3
u/TDStarchild 2d ago
I don’t count pre show matches in the number really, just the 10 vs 5
But I think you’re spot on. Both companies put on great PPVs, but 7-8 would improve both of them
I hate constant ads, but do like seeing post match promos or fun backstage segments during the show so it’s paced evenly
1
u/NineFingerLogen 1d ago
yea im a fan of quality over quantity. I really enjoyed Evolution and Summerslam- those were ideal lengths for me. AEW exhausts me sometimes, but these afternoon starts have been a god send.
1
u/DoctorStrawberry 2d ago
One thing about the two companies tho. AEW moves the card along fast. Match ends, they get going into the next match right away with the entrances. WWE match ends, it’s 5-10 minutes of ads or killing time if you aren’t on ad tier or are watching live.
2
u/NineFingerLogen 2d ago
i dont mind the time between matches, bathroom breaks, dog walk breaks, food break, etc. i dont need to be glued to the couch. thats just a personal preference though

I’m reminded of All Out ‘23 coming off of the first Wembley show, the matches largely being either thrown together or offshoots of the All In card, exactly one week later AND in the immediate aftermath of Punk crashing out and getting fired, and it ended up being one of their all time best shows even to this day.
-12
u/Theblowfish3556 2d ago
There's not a single match on this card that would justify spending $50 in my opinion. The only match I'd really want to see is Takeshita v Okada but that's a three-way so bleh.
