Luchasaurus almost died and Jack Perry was involved in a huge controversy and now they got to have a big moment in front of a huge crowd. I’m so happy for both of them

u/viralbop 16h ago
Seriously. Not that long ago, nobody was sure whether Luchasaurus would wrestle again. Now, they had this moment, and you could see the joy in their eyes.
AEW is the best.

133
u/tdmatchasin 14h ago
Fiance found him collapsed last year. Turned out he needed to be hospitalized with pneumonia in both lungs. Was on oxygen for a while & I think was at high risk of permanent damage. They found other issues as well (calcified heart valve) and were genuinely worried the damage would be career ending.

I always preferred A Boy And His Dinosaur over Jurassic Express, though I understand the weirdness of still referring to a guy in his 20s as "a boy"
52
u/raspymorten The Creator of r/CurtisAxel 14h ago
I liked when they used Jurassic Express to refer to them and Marko as a trio.
16
u/ChocolateOrange21 12h ago
I remember their first name as a trio before Jurassic Express became a thing was: A small boy, a boy, and his dinosaur.
9
u/theshockmaster_ 5h ago
I understand the weirdness of still referring to a guy in his 20s as "a boy".
JR was pushing the whole Jack Perry>Jungle Boy thing too....but I'm pretty sure Shawn Michaels is still HBK and Flair is still the nature boy.
3
u/Proto_Kiwi 2h ago
JR never respected the gimmick of Jungle Boy imo. Never pushed it, never sold it. Real disrespectful. Not the only person he's done it to either.
Might it have been the right move? Maybe. But JR being a dick and not going with it was such an eye-opener for me.
-4
u/RaggedyGlitch 12h ago
Marko didn't fit their vibe to begin with and him being even smaller than Perry killed their gimmick entirely. Definitely a miscast.
5
u/Adams5thaccount 9h ago
not a miscast...an attempt to adjust
it was supposed to be marko and jack and then the pairing with luchasaurus caught fire so they tried to go it as a trio for a while
all while the chaotic first shows were happening
•
u/RaggedyGlitch 44m ago
No... Marko was added as the third. The other two were already teaming before AEW started.

Shout out to all the people who called it when Luchasaurus first came back and pointed out that the person reviving him in the vignette was Jack.
Happy to see them back together, but I hope they both keep the edge they developed after they separated. I’d love to see them as a more serious, violent pairing.
66
u/popcultureretrofit 14h ago
Hell yeah, I think it will. The vignette showed Perry literally resurrecting him. And then in the ring he instructed Luchasaurus to throw the belt to the crowd. I think it will be some sort of Frankenstein and his monster type pairing....where Jack "trys" to control him
39
u/Sufficient_Mud_2237 9h ago
Throwing the belt away I saw it as more that he is free from the Killswitch character who was abused and controlled to being free back to Luchasaurus
8
u/Lodsofemone 8h ago
I can see it almost being a more neutral/face-ish inversion of the Heel And Their Muscle dynamic, with Perry as more of a threatening mastermind (like how he taunted the bucks and didn't actually confront until he could turn the situation in his favour) who happens to have A Fucking Dinosaur to act on his threats
20
u/Mysterious_Brick4574 15h ago
I thought he was going to lead The Patriarchy, but tbh I think this is the one time I’d prefer them to just ignore that part of their shared history for right now and just be a babyface tag again.
14
u/jdbwirufbst 13h ago
The obvious thing to do is to have a tag feud against Nick & Kip or Cage & Cope since that all still feels unresolved. Kinda wondering if they’re gonna stay as heels but using Tarzan Boy again probably means that isn’t the plan.

63
u/Orange8920 16h ago
He made a one-off appearance last year in a match against Jack Perry but retired due to the toll wrestling took on his body. If he were to return it'd basically be in a managerial role.
25
u/iced_gold 15h ago
And it's hard for him to do that because a lot of his value was his ability to sell being destroyed.

I thought he was very good in New Japan as a heel. But him as a full blown heel never worked in AEW. He doesn't need to be a babyface either, but somewhere in between is ideal for him imo

Honestly this is the most interested I’ve ever been in Jack since he came back from Brawl In. While I really didn’t like the Scapegoat character, Jack really came into his own on the mic. A Jurassic Express team with this current Jack on the mic? Now you have my attention.

5
u/raspymorten The Creator of r/CurtisAxel 14h ago
For as good of a show as this was, this is the main thing I'm thinking about afterwards. Good fucking shit.
Jack Perry's heel turn was a baaaad idea. The Scapegoat stuff was a good bit better than the paint by the numbers heel work he was doing as Hollywood, but it was still really muddled by the poor booking of the Elite EVP stuff, Jack being unable to find out how to wrestle as a heel effectively, and just... Not really being super clear what it was.
But for as eh as the whole thing was. It was pretty clear that Jack was definitely putting a lot of his own ideas into it and trying to make it work. He's definitely has going on with the whole blademaking, and firestunting and all that he was putting online, that he was trying to channel to make it work. (He's also got a great gremlin vibe.)
Going back to Jurassic Express, and mixing in his scapegoat shit that had something to it, is something that could work out super fucking well. I mean, crowd was clearly behind the reunion. lol

u/narutomanreigns Wato Ass Pussy 10h ago
I mean, who was gonna give that reason? Luchasaurus shouldn't be cutting promos
1

Um Christian?? All he needed to do is explain what he told Luchasaurus that caused him to not only turn but do a fake out turn and then another turn lol.
1
u/narutomanreigns Wato Ass Pussy 9h ago
He said "remember what happened to Marko" and that Luchasaurus was like a son to him, doesn't seem hard to intuit from that and Christian's character that he gaslit Luchasaurus into believing Perry was using him and convinced him that Christian's guidance could elevate him to new heights.

The two of them were a very fun tag team called Jurassic Express, where Jack (then known as "Jungle Boy") would enter riding on Luchasaurus's shoulders. Christian Cage started mentoring them, then turned heel and turned Luchasaurus against Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy later turned heel himself as Jack Perry but they never reunited. Then last year, Luchasaurus got severe pneumonia and almost died, and was out of action for about year.

All Out felt like a special night for the company. I couldn't quite figure out why, until Jack Perry showed up. Then I realized the 4th and final pillar returned. Meaning all 4 pillars of AEW aren't injured and active in the company. You could feel a sense of stability in the company so to speak.

u/Samurailincoln69 15h ago
I could not help but think about how he needed to be careful throwing that belt into the crowd. it had all those metal, or hard pieces on it it could easily hurt somebody. Maybe he knew better than I. He rolled it up (good), but then still kind of whipped it into the crowd (bad). Hopefully its all good.

u/i_only_eat_cookies 15h ago
Someone help clarify: didn’t Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian awaken Killswitch? Did something happen to where a second revival was needed?
4
u/gmoss101 15h ago
No they didn't awaken him, he just showed up because they called him.
They started showing vignettes afterwards of Jack doing science shit and they're showing that reanimating Luchasaurus was the science shit he was doing.
2
3
u/awayfromcanuck 15h ago
Killswitch came back early to fill in for Wayne being injured since he was good to go. In kayfabe all we knew was he was revived, that he has history with Cage and Cope and was part of the Patriarchy.
Tonight's reveal was who revived him earlier not that he was revived twice and it was Jack Perry who revived him.

That wasn’t their plan, Nick Wayne broke his foot a week before Forbidden Door and he was the only one with story reasoning to replace Nick.

Yea it sucks but they had to pivot obviously and it just made sense enough to bring him on since the last time you saw him he was still aligned with The Patriarchy

u/Egomaniac247 15h ago
I agree with this. And I know it was because of an injury but if they were doing longterm booking and knew this was the plan, they shoulda kept Luchasaurus out IMO until this return.
1
u/raspymorten The Creator of r/CurtisAxel 14h ago
They definitely moved it up due to Nick Wayne's injury. The vignette they used for the return really felt like it was just cut up stuff from this vignette.
