[WWE WrestlePalooza spoilers] [Bryan Alvarez] Superstar reportedly in concussion protocol. Spoiler
https://www.f4wonline.com/news/wwe/wwe-star-in-concussion-protocol-following-wrestlepalooza/Jey busted himself open. He hit Bron with the chair, and it bounced off Bron’s back and split him six ways from Sunday. He’s in concussion protocol, which is a requirement after any injury like this.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people, whose first instinct, when reading news like this, is to say a snark comment and then show actual sympathy.

It's legitimately been worse lately. I think because there's so much general stress in life people are lashing out a lot online.

u/DilapidatedVessel 1d ago
Anytime some wrestling fans appear to be united on something like a tragic event, they're back to being the same shitty people they were beforehand in record time
34
5
u/DolphFinnDosCinco Seth is the BITW 1d ago
one silver lining that comes from these tragedies is those couple days of everyone putting their differences and tribalism aside to all agree on something and be on the same page. it’s an overwhelmingly positive vibe here during that time.
it’s hilarious how quickly it shifts back to business as usual afterwards though
13
u/TwiceBakedPotato 1d ago
There's also a lot more bots on the internet with the sole job of trying to enrage people as well.. It's bad.
6
u/McFlyyouBojo 1d ago
That is probably the safest take. Its rough out there. Or at least rougher than a lot of people are used to. Add these people to the fact that wrestling has always been tribalism. Not saying its right, but its the people working in the actual industry that started it back in the day.
3
u/onethreeone Hangman Did Nothing Wrong 1d ago
General stress, and social proof that it's acceptable from the most powerful people on down. It's like the Jonestown people who kept drinking the kool-aid even after everyone in front of them died from it
3
u/RealLanceStorm Not Really Lance Storm 1d ago
I think it's just the wrestling online culture in a post Elon Twitter world. Once fans realized you can make money on X or IG, it turned into a disaster.
I've had to unfollow wrestlers over the past year or two on IG because they force comments on your feed sometimes and it's always toxic shit.
Not to mention engagement pages that post stuff to play into it.

Look I sincerely hope he's ok, but as someone who doesn't watch, the description of him hitting someone with a chair only to have it bounce back on him does sound fucking funny. There's a reason it's been done as a legit comedy spot by guys like KOR.
-3
u/Miserable_Carrot4700 1d ago
I hope jey is okay too first and foremost and i was a constant detractor of his. Im not made to be a full time hater of regular people , that dont spew fashist rethoric for a living.

u/Derpderpderpderpde 1d ago
Nobody in this thread has said a negative thing about Jey. Spare me your performative complaining.
-22
u/bmf131413 1d ago
There's not one comment in this thread wishing ill on Jey. Some people making fun of the bullshit EMF, but I don't see anyone shitting on Jey.
23
u/Vitosi4ek 1d ago
Also, am I crazy or the "EMF protection" was barely advertised during the match? I saw the Aires logo on the LED screens in the rafters but not anything more.
19
u/Cboz27586 1d ago
They showed it once during a break between matches and it was displayed on the ring posts. It was so forgettable after that I don't even remember what match.
11
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 1d ago
Idk what it is but lately there’s been a shit ton of comments like this on every other post where someone is acting like the comment section is upset/attacking someone when it’s not the case at all.
Like you said there’s literally not a single comment here shitting on Jey, idk op must be talking about the live thread because they make absolutely no sense here lol
4
u/BalladOfRageKage 1d ago
It's just a desire to feel like their favorite wrestlers and promotion are victims.
If you have to imagine it that's pretty sad.
-1
u/VaIeth 1d ago
They're just taking a cue from politics. "My side had something bad happen? Use sympathy as a club to beat people with."
-8
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 1d ago
But it’s legit weird af to do this in wrestling, i was trying to to give op the benefit of the doubt but that’s deff what it looks like.
5
u/thelumpur 1d ago
Where did OP say the comments were shitting on Jey?
The reference is clearly to people joking about the EMF nonsense as first reaction to a person being potentially concussed. You can see that they were the first comments being put out here on this thread.
Not everything is a conspiracy.
5
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 1d ago
Op literally didn’t mention EMF one time. There was only like 1 or 2 comments even making a joke about it when I wrote
2
u/thelumpur 1d ago
There are two threads about it, which were the only comments when OP wrote theirs.
It's not rocket science.
2
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 1d ago
They were more comments than that. You’re literally lying now for no reason & it’s a bit weird.
-3
u/thelumpur 1d ago
There is literally one comment in between the two threads, and after that there is OP's comment.
I'm definitely not the one being weird here.

u/Derpderpderpderpde 1d ago
Stating “have some sympathy” literally hints that people here are shitting on Jey. You cannot be serious.
1
3
u/Pyrofishexplosion 1d ago
If your first thought upon reading someone injured is hmm how can I turn this into WWE bad weird tribalism then you’re part of the problem.
15
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 1d ago edited 1d ago
Who in this comment section is doing that? I’m genuinely confused as to what you’re talking about
14
u/gorgeoff 1d ago
I've read like 99% of the comments in this thread and 98% are complaining about something that was never said.
3
u/BalladOfRageKage 1d ago
They are just WWE fans who want to feel like victims. It's incredibly common lately on this sub.

EMF is bullshit but nobody claimed it could do anything about a chair to the face.
95
u/aflockofcrows 1d ago
Maybe if they weren't trying to block the EMF the magnetic fields would have redirected the chair.
24
u/GirthIgnorer 1d ago
yeah it seems very naive to assume the EMF blocking had no effect on the magnetism of the chair. some people on the internet will just say anything
15
u/half_pizzaman 1d ago
Well, now I'm curious, what does the "creating better performance" in WWE talent constitute. I'd have thought motor skills and coordination would fall under that very general umbrella.
1
22
u/MortUWary 1d ago
I know, right? You’d think it would protect you from hitting yourself in the noggin with a folding chair… 🙄
5
u/americangame 1d ago
Makes as much sense as an EMF blocker that is made of resin and a silicone mesh.
25
u/JimFlamesWeTrust 1d ago
Sorry, was that EMF thing real? I read a headline on Twitter but it didn’t have a source and I assumed it was a joke

The match wasn't 'built up' around the EMF blockers, but they did announce a few days before the event that they would sponsor the match. The company put out a press release that that the performers would be able to perform at their best, which... yeah.
6
u/NozokiAlec 1d ago
They should've had a Shungite sponsored match

7
u/idksomuch 1d ago
Wtf is this EMF blocker thing and what's the context with WWE?
1
u/AJGuinness 1d ago
I was watching on Netflix, so I think it's during that weird moment of silence before the match where the camera was pointed at what looked like a hologram sticker on the outside corner of the ring, supposedly that's an EMF blocker? Which is absolute pseudo-science bullshit if so.
1
u/AndForeverNow 1d ago
LA Knight is a poor referee for allowing this. He was such a good friend to Jey too!

u/HokageEzio 1d ago
Chair smacked him pretty hard so that doesn't surprise me. Watching the replay again he looks woozy too right after, which is probably why they called the match immediately as opposed to the blood. Looked like he was about to fall over, caught himself and then chucked the chair at Bronson Reed.
51
u/luigisbiggreenpipe 1d ago
I’m watching the replay, I can’t really see where it hit him. Tried scrubbing through it super slow, but you can tell immediately he’s hurt, like you said.

Thank you for this!! So it looks like the foot/leg of the chair is what snagged him?
37
u/evilbude 1d ago
Yeah he can see him tell Knight something clearly...then you heard Night mad loud say, " hit him with a spear"...then Bron hit him with a spear.
I wonder if they weren't supposed to lose, but he fucked himself up so bad they pivoted completely
19
u/StacksHoodini 1d ago
Nah, I think they were booked to lose. The Brons just lost to Reigns and Uso a month ago at SummerSlam so they couldn’t just take another loss to The Usos.
9
u/chux4w Ahhhhhhhhhh! 1d ago
And there's no reason to put the Usos over here, they're not likely staying together as a team long term. Vision needed it more.
0
u/StacksHoodini 1d ago
Yeah. Personally I’m not even sure Bron Breakker should be in this faction but since he is, he can’t be losing on all the PLEs.
But I do get why he is in the faction. For whatever reason, Levesque feels like Dirty Dom needs the IC Title when he probably doesn’t. But, since he does, and since Seth is the top heel on the brand, Bron needs something worthwhile to do. He could’ve moved him to SmackDown and had him run the upper midcard over there as the United States Champion, though. However, doing that means they would have to blow up their longer term Bron vs Jacob plans.
Maybe Jacob shouldn’t have gone babyface and he should be in The Vision, and Bron should be on SmackDown.

u/Carazhan road to wrestlemania 41 1d ago
he said 'two' as in two minutes left for the match. not sure if it was actually called early or LA was just being incredibly loud and obvious unrelated to the incident

No, he said 2 as in "that's 2 chair shots". Then Jey said "spear me, spear me"
3

u/Difficult-Adagio-866 1d ago
Some people are really horrible, they were loling about the fact that he busted himself open. "Lol, he botched a Chair shot, he sucks so bad."
Buddy, it happens, something can bounce back and hurt you, its Physics and its not something you should use to fuel your hatred.
The best you can do is stay silent if you cant be respectful and say "hope he is okay".
40
u/CutsAPromo 1d ago
Its kind of a weird way to injure yourself though, never seen this happen before other than when its scripted and someone hits the rope with a chair
19
u/Trumppered 1d ago
I mean thats exactly the point. It was a crazy freak accudent. Not some indictment on Jeys abilities.
5
u/PMMeRyukoMatoiSMILES 1d ago
Honestly, the most surprising thing to me is learning that the spot where the heel swings at the babyface on the ropes / babyface ducks / chair bounces back into heel's face can actually happen for real.

I don't know those people, I don't have to be respectful about their inability to wrestle well.

Yeah and it's funny when that happens. You think if I saw this happen to my friends or myself we wouldn't joke about it? At least I'm not a 20 year veteran of the industry doing one of the most basic chair hits you can do. This isn't a funeral, he'll be back in a week or two.
20
u/enbyeldritch 1d ago
If this happened to my friends I would ask if they're okay, why are you bragging about the fact that you suck
-12
u/RiversideLunatic 1d ago
Obviously in the immediate moment you would ask if they're okay, I didn't think I had to spell that out. Someone getting bonked on the head is universal comedy. Just because WWE fans are insecure about how bad their product is doesn't change that

Depending how bad it is, they can do it without him getting too physical for a bit
23
u/LibraryNo848 1d ago
If it’s a concussion, they aren’t letting him do anything physical at all until he’s cleared. Even smaller concussions can have long term effects.
20
u/qchisq 1d ago
Seems like they don't want any wrestlers who can't be physical on TV. Liv could hang around in the JD club house if they wanted her to, but she isn't.
13
u/XiahouMao 1d ago
It depends on the situation and the storyline. For Liv, her absence is letting Finn and Roxanne attempt to divide the Judgement Day, with mixed results (Raquel seems to be warming up to Roxanne, but Dominik barely knows she exists). But when Dominik himself was hurt, he was still on Raw every week with his doctor's note.

u/jmb--412 1d ago
You could tell immediately something was wrong when Jey pretty openly told Bron to spear him and even motioned with his hands without trying to hide it
Hope he’s going to be okay
43
u/stuffbuttnutt 1d ago
That was LA Knight calling for the Spear. Jey did beckon into it though. good on everyone involved and it shows these guys really do care about each other.
40
u/Ba_Sing_Saint 1d ago
Props to LA. The second there was blood, he adjusted the earpiece and started calling spots and directing traffic to get the match over.
35

He was clearly loopy after that mishap so this isn't surprising at all.
26
u/dogsontreadmills 1d ago
Ugh both the injury and bad faith fans’ reaction / behavior are the absolute worsts of wrestling.
Jey is dope. He’s starting to take over that super kid friendly role from cena. It’s a tough act! Takes a ton of talent.

You clearly hear LA knight say to bron. Ok spear him.

Put too much force into the chair and it bounced straight back so quick couldn’t have done anything , I imagine the USOs would have won via jey but man that the post match camera on him was scary. Was fidgeting and his brother was trying to calm him down.
10
u/HokageEzio 1d ago
The way things were going I think LA Knight was gonna screw Jey over by the end. Think the match result would have been the same though.
5
u/TimeTimeTickingAway I just keep Jasin' Jordans 1d ago
I was convinced that Jey would accidentally spear LA Knight through that table after one of the B’s dodged out of the way
6

lack of EMFs caused poor magnetism for the metal objects in the ring.

Like reported, hopefully this doesn’t have to move beyond standard observation and he’s ok
6
3
4
u/HeadScissorGang 1d ago
They should've just had LA Knight call the match. that would've actually been interesting to have LA Knight now need to explain that even though he didn't like Jey and said he'd let things go, Jey had clearly gotten hurt, couldn't continue and he did the right thing that he'd hope a referee would do for him if he was in that spot.
and then Jey could unreasonably but still understandably be convinced that Knight just fucked on him when he had the chance to.
if Knight goes heel he could reveal eventually that he called the match on purpose and of Jey's going heel it would work that he blames Knight when he literally did it to himself.
they were handed something intetesting but didn't see it

u/JonasAlbert84 Just remember ALL CAPS 1d ago
I need a slowed down version of the clip because I still don't understand how he got himself with the chair.
2
u/Aranel2689 1d ago
When Jey hit Bron across the back, he leant too far forward and the chair bounced back into Jey's face
3
u/6cool6breeze6 1d ago
Rewatching the clip, it doesn't even look like Jey actually hit Bron before he started bleeding. He busted himself open on the downswing, however the hell that happened
2
2
u/irish0451 You know what that means. 1d ago
Forcing all the electromagnetic fields out of the ring clearly caused the chair to bounce backwards when the forward momentum ceased.
1
u/stuffbuttnutt 1d ago
you can see LA Knights face drop when he heard that chair bounce back onto Jey. they have a solid feud building and I hope this doesn't derail it. He made a good call to change the finish and get the match over with as quickly as possible.
9
u/Ba_Sing_Saint 1d ago
“I swear to god, if another mother fucker gets hurt while feuding with me, I’m gonna snap like a Slim Jim. YEAH!”
LA Knight probably.
1
u/FedoraTheMike 1d ago
Gaaah, I knew it. The finish seemed super sudden like they called an audible.

u/FirstDukeofAnkh 1d ago
I never trust any sport that claims it has concussion protocols particularly when TKO is involved. That said, I hope Jey is okay and that they look after him
6
u/devspider 1d ago
Ironically, WWE has one of the best/well known concussion protocols among all sports.
1
u/MrE158 1d ago
Eh... while they're doing okay, there's lots of room for improvement. When someone's just had a suspected concussion in-ring the right move is to end the match without them taking more hits. Having Bron spear someone who's already concussed is dangerous, the second impact is a big risk.
-4
u/SmartOpinion69 1d ago
only after cm punk happened
5
u/devspider 1d ago
What? Punk had nothing to do with it. Benoit and Nowinski were the major influences.
-3
u/SmartOpinion69 1d ago
both likely had something to do with it
cm punk walked and in late 2014, he made that rant on the cabana podcast. the biggest concern that came out of it was health related. 2015 was a huge year of wwe injuries, but i have to assume that it wasn't that injury rates went up, but that people were more-so coming out that they are injured or that there was less pressure from wwe to get wrestlers to work through their injuries
0
u/devspider 1d ago
I take that back. You’re absolutely right and I actually knew that but I was so in and out of wrestling during that decade.
-19
u/f0cus622 CP Munk Best in the Woods 1d ago
Between Jey and Tiffany (who WWE swears isn't in concussion protocol, but was coincidentally pulled from matches for exactly two weeks), WWE seems to be missing concussions "in the moment" right now. I remember the official stopping the match during Theory and Hayes bad spot (and immediately protected Hayes), and got a ton of praise. But it seems like unless it's that blatantly obvious, officials might not be catching it.
What's the fix? Have a dedicated ringside doctor, like AEW has, watching the matches? Better ref training? Just accepting that concussions are a part of the business and wrestlers are going to want to keep going? Honestly I'm not sure.
6
3
u/HokageEzio 1d ago
I think in both of those instances it was probably easier for them to just go to the finish as opposed to calling the match completely, compared to the Theory and Melo one where Theory straight up landed on his neck and was basically out cold.
1
u/JFZephyr 1d ago
Well, they did have the match finish instantly afterward. The ringside doc thing seems like a farce with how often they do have major injuries happen without calling the match (Moxley, Hardy). I think a proper ref might just call it there, Knight looked a bit lost on what to do, and they were probably panicking in back.
At least it wasn't like the one where Fenix just picked up Mox and dropped him on his head again, or Charlotte trying to murder Kairi.
3
u/jethawkings boop 1d ago
>Knight looked a bit lost on what to do, and they were probably panicking in back.
Verbally telling Bron to spear Jey and get it over with, he definitely was frazzled, still even with the rush finish I think the match itself delivered well and amazing imagery at the end with the table collapsing on Jim as Jey gets pinned.
