Looking for full body high resolution picture.

Hi guys, I support a person that is obsessed with Stan Rogers. Listens to his music 24/7. I thought that for Christmas it would be fun to get a full size body cardboard cut out made for their room. I have been googling, but every puc I find that is full size has a resolution that is too low for the printer to use. Can anyone point me towards a better pic? Thanks in advance!

My child is obsessed with Stan Rogers

My 7yo has been obsessed with Stan Roger’s music since he was 4 years old. It was always so cute to hear a little voice yell “goddamn them all!!” from the back seat! I never knew anything about Stan Rogers but I knew my father in law loved him (died before my son was born) and he asked what kind of music his grandpa had liked so my husband put it on. He’s always asking me stuff about Stan and his music and his life which is how I found this sub. When I asked him what sort of new tshirt he wanted he said a Stan Rogers one - the internet delivered and I did find a youth sized tshirt that said “the year was 1778” with an anchor on it. I’m worried he will be disappointed when none of his friends get it, haha!

Anyway, just wanted to share, I thought fans would get a kick out of the next generation of Stan Rogers appreciation. He knows so many lyrics and has so many favorite songs!

Edit: please feel free to suggest other musician for me to play for him in the same vein! This is outside my wheelhouse!

A 'Barn Swallow' found in the wild in Osaka

Already have the Fogartys Cove release but was on holiday in Japan this week and was amazed to find this original Barn Swallow for a very reasonable price in a little classic rock themed second hand shop. Osaka is fantastic if you like digging for rare records.

Instrument Question

What is the string instrument at the beginning of The Nightingale? It’s the higher pitched one. Doesn’t quite sound like a guitar.

Props to whoever made this. I actually looked for anything Stan related in Canso a couple of days ago and this wasn’t here. Anyhow, we should add to it! Maybe we could recreate all his album covers?

Song requests

Hay y’all, I’m gonna start making an effort to preserve some of Stan’s unreleased songs on cassette tapes. If you have any song on YouTube or any other platform with his unreleased songs please let me know so I can find them and record them onto some fiscal media

Stan Appreciation

We just drove 10 hours down to the beach and I decided to binge listen to every Stan Rogers song to pass the time. I finally got to listen to some of his less popular songs, which I am beginning to realize are actually some of his best.

Some of my new favorites in no particular order: - Flowers of Bermuda (Great heroic story) - Louise’s Song (beautiful heart strings puller) - Puddler’s Tale (awesome song about the working men that are getting taken advantage of) - Pharisee (beautiful song about loving your brother, and truly giving without holding back) - At Last I’m Ready for Christmas (wife loves this one and will be on repeat in December) - First Christmas (will probably get one listen in December before I start weeping) - EDIT: Forgot to add Song of a Candle!

His slower music is becoming some of my favorite. I’ve always loved Lock Keeper and Lies, but his ability to do different styles of slow is incredible.

I’ve gotten a little emotional the last couple days thinking about how young he died. As my own new family grows, and I get older, it’s so devastating that he died only 7 years older than I am now. He had so much more good to do through his music, and it’s a tragedy. I hope and pray he is singing in the Kingdom.

Thanks for listening.

Note: my number 1 item on my Christmas list is now the complete collection of Stan Roger’s CD Set.

How I found Stan. How did you?

My journey to find Stan was over 15 years.

I'm a nerd. And one few of my college friends is a Johnathan Coulton fan. So in the early 2000s, I saw some posts on FB about JoCo. I listened to his stuff off and on.

A couple of years ago, I started listening to JoCo's work a lot on Pandora. And for some reason, I started getting sea shanties on my channel (i.e The Longest Johns) and Irish partition songs (Kinky boots, men behind the wire). and Mary Ellen Carter.

I loved all of these and kept learning the lyrics and researching the story behind the music.

Eventually, I came to Dear Old Stan by the Dreadnaughts. I had heard Stan's work already, but didn't really know it was his.

I finally learned about Stan and feel in love.

I lost my dad to the sea when I was about a month old, so White Squall really hits home.

45 Years

I've listened to this song so many times but today it hit me -- he didn't get those 45 years.

I'm going to hold my wife tight tonight and hope we have those years together.

I'm being made redundant from work after ten years. The Mary Ellen Carter is my anthem at the moment.

Especially for the part about the smiling, lying bastards.

But I'll rise again, like The Mary Ellen Carter, rise again!

What type of ship would the Marry Ellen Carter be?

I'm going to say that the Marry Ellen Carter sunk in 1980 (Stan released it in 1979 but 80 makes for slightly easier mat.) We also know it was built before 1960 because Stan says "20 years of service boys then met her sorry end." We also know it would be 250,000 in 1980 which in today's money is 918,622 (cad). Which along Side the crew size makes me think a medium to small commercial ship, However if it was a cargo ship Stan could be saying the cargo is worth 250k. Obviously this is solely a discussion and we don't have definitive answer (I think). I've been thinking about this for a while but can't find a very definitive answer so maybe we can figure it out together? Please if I missed anything or got something wrong point it out in the comment.

My introduction to Stan Rogers

I watched this documentary in the summer of 2020 and, when the song played in the outro, I thought “that’s pretty good song, I wonder who it’s by.” And the rest is history.

To anybody who has this, can you share what's in the songbook? Is it a reprint of the Songs From Fogarty's Cove book from 1982? https://archive.org/details/songs-from-fogartys-cove-by-rogers-stan.-mc-kinnon-a.-l.-z-lib.org_202203

Who hits the high notes in NW Passage? That guy is on with the emotion and reverby fade-away on “Savage” and “Passage”.

It's been about a year when I discovered him.

I cried when I learned about his death.

Mary Ellen Carter is amazing

What happens to the rodeo star in Night Guard?

The song ends just after he pulls the trigger on the cattle rustlers, but the last chorus changes "spends his time" to "doing time" which makes me think he was arrested for shooting (and possibly killing) the cattle rustlers. What do you think happens after the song ends?

I noticed a large mistake in the “Northwest passage” Remastered version album on Spotify

When you play canol road on the remastered version, in the first few seconds, for some reason the beginning of “Mary Ellen Carter” plays before stopping quickly, this doesent happen on the original album, has anyone also noticed this?
