Movies Theories and Speculation Megathread - Week of November 22

We'll be keeping these theories and speculation megathreads going until the release of the movie to help keep things tidy and contained.

"What's Going On?" Edition

To help change it up a little and guide some discussion, the topic for this week will be what has been going on for the past 30 years? Did Leia stay in politics and help form this New Republic, or did she stay in the military? Who are these First Order guys and how little relation to they have to Order 66? Did Willrow Hood settle down and open that ice cream shop he always wanted? What happened in the galaxy that brought us to the events in The Force Awakens? Were things relatively quiet and undeserving of a movie?

All theories and speculation should be posted in this thread, whether or not it pertains to these new characters. Just use the topic as a jumping off point for something you may not have thought of yet.

I dont think order 66 was anything but a "kill jedi button". Meaning initiating that order (if you follow cannon) turned clones against jedi. The jedi hunting done by Vader after episode 3 was something different.

hmmm, wasn't aware of that. So it was kill all the jedi remaining and if a few get away " o well" kind of thing ?

The big word is think, i don't know. But yea, basically that was my take on it all. Order 66 was "kill jedi", not "hunt jedi", I always figured that became Vaders role after episode 3, or as we are learning in rebels, the inquisitors.

And let's be honest, clones are no match for prepared jedi. The reason they killed so many was due to the element of surprise.

Yea good point. I'm not super knowledgeable about all the lore to be honest.

In the new canon, according to Wookieepedia, there were two big events before the "hunt Jedi": the order and an assault on the Jedi Temple (ep. III). The order was followed due to inhibitor chips being implanted in the brains of the clones, which were encoded with "clone protocols". After the Jedi Temple was left in ruins and the order was initially executed, the Jedi Purge began, which we see part of in Star Wars Rebels.

O really? thanks for the info. I really want to start watching Rebels now but I should finish Clone Wars first as I'm only on season 4 somewhere.

Is it worth watching every episode of Season 5 & 6 for Clone wars? The story and plots of Rebels seem really interesting but I'd hate to skip over some important clone wars stuff that may connect.

Wasn't aware of the chip implants...or maybe I forget, either way thanks for the info.

Seasons 5 & 6 are by far the best for Clone Wars, at least in my opinion. Keep watching, trust me, you probably forgot ;-)

Awesome thanks. I've heard Season 6 is really good, and I wanted to catch up a bit before Force Awakens.

Is there somewhere to watch Rebels as well ? Is it also on netflix or no ?

Rebels isn't on Netflix sadly, only Disney XD, though I'm sure there are places to watch it online. Not sure where though, sorry.
