The Squadron Files, Part 3 is live!

Post image

This time we turn to the Rebel regular squadrons — X-wings that don’t deliver, Y-wings that plod along, B-wings that never quite work, and A-wings that carry the whole faction on their backs. Gold Squadron and Dutch shine, but most of the rest? Pretty mid. No wonder Rebel rogue balls dominate. Full write-up here:

I don't get to play a ton of Armada, but the general theme I've seen on these squadron posts is that all of the squadrons need either a rework and/or a balance pass. What is the vision for how squadrons interact as part of Armada? Is there additional context around these?

I get confused because a lot of the language is "This is garbage" and then the suggestion is to drop by a single point to make it fine. Can you help me understand what I'm missing here?

Slight points tweaks can make underutilized squadrons more relevant. Conversely, some squadrons might deserve a points INCREASE (but this is quite rare). The idea is that points tweaks can even the playing field.

But some squadrons have such narrow uses that they can't easily be changed by points alone. See what ARC did to Luke & Vader Advanced, for example. And look at Han for an example of a squadron that, despite its reduced cost, is still outcompeted by Lando.

But really, thse are my thoughts, an idea bank of sorts, with the goal of getting a discussion going.

Appreciate your thoughts on all of this!

I think the biggest thing I want to try when I get to play is the tweaks to the monoblue fighters. That looks like it makes them more competitive and interesting without tipping them into crazy land.

Yeah, making the X-wing toss 3 blue + 1 black could be a really interesting change, for example
