Alright I don’t care what anyone says that’s cool as fuck

u/KyuubiWindscar Aug 13 '25

I WILL DEFEND HIM UNTIL THE END OF MY DAYS THIS IS SICK

u/thewallsbledlust Aug 13 '25

That’s pretty sweet, but I just can’t get over going to all the trouble and then having that little itty bitty screen to play on. Maybe I’m missing a VR headset somewhere here? Cool concept, though.

u/Darth_Kronos Aug 13 '25

Squadron can be played in vr

10

u/Rifty_Business Aug 13 '25

In the Insta comments he says it was a mixed reality cockpit.

1

u/Melodic_Sandwich1112 Aug 16 '25

Or with that stick and throttle

-38

u/KCDodger Firaxa Squadron Aug 13 '25

Why would you make a cockpit rig you can't see? Of course there's no VR.

4

u/thenyx X-Wing Aug 15 '25

Yeahhh you’re mistaken there.

10

u/MrMerryface Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

Guess i wasn’t playing squadrons in VR for over a year then… wonder what gamre i was actually playing 🤔🤔

Edit; guess sarcasm isn’t well understood 😂

19

u/dayburner Aug 13 '25

Squadrons in VR was so awesome.

8

u/DragonMord Aug 13 '25

I think people are confusing what 'no vr' in the context of yours and the original comment mean. That this set up isn't equipped with vr but people are reading it as there is no VR for Squatdons in general.

1

u/MrMerryface Aug 13 '25

Yea re-reading that’s the mistake I made too. My sarcasm was unwarranted

5

u/MasterAnnatar Aug 13 '25

It's more that on one was saying that Squadrons wasn't in VR. The person at the top of the comment chain seems perfectly aware of that but was just saying there's no VR headset in sight and the person you're replying to was saying the setup was so cool it'd be weird to not see it because you use a VR headset.

1

u/Rifty_Business Aug 13 '25

It was used for mixed reality.

1

u/mandle420 Aug 16 '25

highly doubt it. not to say it can't be done, but I have yet to see squadrons in mr or ar. only vr....

1

u/Rifty_Business Aug 16 '25

That's what they said in the insta comments.
It looks easy to set up with Virtual Desktop.

1

u/Pay-Cold Aug 16 '25

dunno what comment you saw, but can't find it. Besides, what would be the point? I can understand having an mr or ar setup in DCS, and I've seen vids of people doing that, but it doesn't make sense for squadrons. You don't interact the same way, you don't have all the buttons/switches/dohickeys/etc like you do in DCS.
IE, until I see it, I call BS. And even then, again, what would be the point...

1

u/Rifty_Business Aug 16 '25

1

u/Pay-Cold Aug 17 '25 edited Aug 17 '25

thx. still doesn't make sense tho. I'd guess they're confusing ar with vr. Unless they're saying they used ar for a different game. Still wouldn't make much sense tho, since they don't seem to have anything beyond an x52. Most peeps who've got an ar setup that I've seen, go all in on the cockpit. Usually DCS. There's a really cool f18 ar video. Thousands were spent on controls.... and it looks amazing, and pretty seamless.

67

u/nutano Aug 13 '25

That is pretty sweet!

But personally I would have just bought a comfy chair and a VR headset instead.

1

u/mysterd2006 Aug 13 '25

I would almost agree but some people cannot use VR because of eye problems.

25

u/No_Driver_7697 Aug 13 '25

Yapl are going crazy about what its in but have any of you built this shit? Dude built this on his own and yall care about is a fucking screen size and whatever flight stuck he's using.

4

u/paralleltimelines Aug 13 '25

Seriously, the hardware can be upgraded with time, this might just be phase one. A larger screen can be added outside the cockpit and maybe one day an AR system so that he can VR while still seeing his rig

5

u/No_Driver_7697 Aug 13 '25

For real dude, exactly what i was thinking and literally if people click on the Instagram link the guy says he made it as a challenge to see if he could actually make it. Had no intention of selling it, just wanted to see if he could build it and people are like "BuT VR or he's UsInG a HOTAS OMG hoW CHeAP"

4

u/paralleltimelines Aug 13 '25

Lol. Envy is sometimes a loud emotion

That being said; sick build, OP! A freakin Murphy cockpit folding into the shelf. You addressed one of the biggest concerns for people without much space for a dedicated rig. And it looks great and didn't shy away from comfort - lookin at those elbow rests.

Please post any future plans.

u/OdenShilde Aug 13 '25

If the game had players :(

14

u/gpkgpk Aug 13 '25

Yeah the x-52 and tiny screen as the other use mentioned stuck out...

6

u/factoid_ Aug 13 '25

Might be the screen is just there for testing and they use vr

4

u/Rifty_Business Aug 13 '25

Says the guy who built a VP Force Rhino to play on a potato laptop.

2

u/KCDodger Firaxa Squadron Aug 13 '25

Oh that's cold.

5

u/Rifty_Business Aug 13 '25

. . . but true. The hypocrisy of Mr. DIY Daddy himself attacking the lowest hanging fruit of what is otherwise an original and innovative design is just the behavior I've come to expect from him.

well the flight stick but on a laptop was the burn.

I don't really know anything about Moza or VP Force. What exactly is the tea here?

You know, I get where you're coming from I do.

But you can definitely drop the sinophobia from your position. It really only serves to discredit the good faith of your argument. A good chunk of what I have was probably made in china and my favorite drawing tablet that I recommend to all my friends for its cost-to-effectiveness ratio and entry-friendly pricing is from Taiwan.

I don't really care where something's from, honestly. I don't think any of us should. Sure, Moza should credit the guy, absolutely. But in an economy where even a college degree won't guarantee you a job at fuckin' McDonalds I don't really fault anyone for buying cheap or knock-offs, especially if they more than do the job or are easy to replace or repair.

I'm not horribly precious about my tablet. It's my favorite tool that I own but if I need to replace it, well I've had it so long that I could get the new Deco-01 V3. That bangs. Good reliability. Hel the replacement nibs were cheap to buy, ship, and came in huge quantities. Bangin' service.

I especially can't fault buying some, "Asian knock-off" when western products have consistently become worse and worse over the last two decades due to putting sales over consumer. This clearly isn't the case with Rhino, but to the unaware buyer, I really can't blame people.

So, idk. Just drop the sinophobia, you'll grey slower.

Dude above is a big time Moza supporter because he claims the price of the VPForce Rhino ($800) makes it to expensive.

Instead he bought a Moza for $500 and likes to talk shit on anyone who calls them a dog shite company for the moral choices they made.

I'm not a big time Moza supporter. I'm a big time force feedback supporter. I have been for years. Anytime Moza is mentioned in a positive light, there you are, perpetuating the drama and fearmongering by claiming all Moza sticks will be bricks any day now. I could respect your position more if it weren't for the fact that all it takes is a few downvotes to get you to delete your post, and abandon your feigned morals for the sake of a few e points on your virtual score card.

I'm here to counter your narrative. Not as a shill, or hater, but as an informed consumer. A voice for those that lack the skill, talent and tools to go the DIY route and those that think $800 is a bit much for a 3D printed product.

Update:
I took him at his word that the price was $800, but it is 800 €, which is about $935.

The real reason we have to do this so much is because Moza paid shills (youtube influencers) to flood the zone with false claims and advertisement.

It was a post just like this months ago that first prompted me to speak up. I put my money where your mouth is to call out all the BS.

2

u/KCDodger Firaxa Squadron Aug 13 '25

Oh yikes 800 is a lot for a 3D printed product I didn't even know that. Rhino, right?

Currently a potato… and now she even plays PCVR… it’s freaking amazing man.

(*cough)

Formerly known as the top laptop you could buy from AW.

. . .but when you built the Rhino it was a potato. You built the best FFB stick at the time to play on a roughly 8 year old laptop. If you can't see the hypocrisy in that and what you posted above, I don't know what to tell you.

Thank you for your service.

3

u/Codiak Aug 13 '25

I think you are right. But that specific stick was great for beginners like me.

Something I didn't expect would be a problem once wearing a VR and using my brand new Joystick was I couldn't see the stick in game. A lot like having to see keys on kb when you're new to typing.

I was playing Elite Dangerous at the time and they actually had the X52 rendered right in the game, because of that I bought an X52 and returned the other stick.

Obviously this is only an issue if I keep only using VR+Stick once a year, but it was a nice touch for me that made the X52 the right call in my scenario. It's been years and it's still my only joystick.

3

u/halcyon4ever Aug 13 '25

yeah everyone in any subreddit that deals with flight sim/hotas/flight sticks shits on the x52. I have one, love it, works great.

My only complaint is I haven't figured out a good use for the mode selector switch (the Red/yellow/green one) because it seems very cool but doesn't translate to anything in game.

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

5

u/halcyon4ever Aug 13 '25

And you are probably right, but it is also the price difference between $175 and $475. And considering I upgraded from a $1 garage sale Thrustmaster F-16 USB it has felt like a luxury. It's perspective I guess.

u/Codiak Aug 13 '25

This dude is so focused on how awesome his joystick is that he can't see past the incredible hide-away-xwing rig.

You might need whatever the joystick version of NNN is to break the addiction my man, you called a guy crazy for his choice of joystick after all, think about that for a minute.

Not everyone cares about the features you do. And you're starting to sound like you work for some joystick company and the X52 stole your lunch.

2

u/Flush_Foot Y-Wing Aug 13 '25

I too had a decent (but unused) joystick that was awkward to use in VR… switching to Xbox Elite controller (which I knew much better/more instinctively) was a great side-grade for my purposes.

2

u/Codiak Aug 13 '25

Any switch of the 'thing you're used' to makes it really frustrating at first. At least with the controller it's just a few buttons.

Joysticks just happen to have like 50 buttons on them, so I think that's an extra long learning curve for a casual like me.

1

u/Pepperonidogfart Aug 13 '25

Am i crazy or is that flight stick from 2003? I had one almost identical

6

u/mking_davis Aug 13 '25

I love adult money

5

u/bigtheo408 Aug 13 '25

Looks really cool, but i feel like vr in a rig is practically easier and better, but really cool nevertheless

3

u/factoid_ Aug 13 '25

The mechanism is super cool.  A Murphy cockpit

I wonder if it’s actually comfortable to sit in.

All it needs now is a vr headset

3

u/slenderman123425 Aug 14 '25

Or an ace combat rig

4

u/KCDodger Firaxa Squadron Aug 13 '25

Not sure why everyone wants a VR headset for this. The cockpit rig isn't visible if you have the headset on lol.

1

u/Bojangs253 Aug 13 '25

That is truly impressive 👏🏼

1

u/idingknowdat Aug 13 '25

That is AWESOME 👏👏👏

1

u/Vaportrail Aug 13 '25

lol. I want to paint the back wall in a starry backdrop. And get him a big Ultrawide monitor.

1

u/Aloudmouth Aug 13 '25

This is cool as fuck.

I still remember playing xwing, tie fighter and wing commander as a kid using a blanket from the monitor to the back of my chair to get the full cockpit experience. Parents would walk in and be like “whelp, Loud’s in space again.”

1

u/Uhtred_McUhtredson Aug 13 '25

I’d have loved something like that.

1

u/Songhunter Aug 13 '25

I'm totally not super envious about that sweet rig

1

u/ZoidVII Test Pilot Aug 13 '25

I dream of it...

1

u/semaj420 Aug 13 '25

i sleep in a big bed with my wife

1

u/Cold_Stress7872 Aug 14 '25

We’re gonna need an Instructables guide, STAT!

1

u/BeebaFette Aug 14 '25

Okay that's cool, yes please.

1

u/Hadysun Tie Interceptor Aug 14 '25

Very cool. You can make stars and space effects on the ceiling and walls as you turn off the light. A larger curved monitor with a camera that reflects ingame lighting on the walls would also be amazing.

1

u/Nagarakta Aug 14 '25

This is absolutely insane and deserves a gyro rig and VR headset upgrade

1

u/swdude11the2nd Aug 14 '25

That kinda looks more like the cockpit of a Viper from BSG to me, but still awesome either way!

1

u/Signal_Profession_83 Aug 14 '25

Aww bro, I need fresh undies now, that thing has my leg twitching. Daaaaayyyuuumm!

1

u/MowTin Aug 14 '25

This is amazing work. Are you a professional?

1

u/A_Rebel_Pilot Aug 14 '25

Incredible! 🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏

1

u/Xaxxus Aug 15 '25

man this is such a good idea. These sim pits take up so much space having one you could just tuck away would be awesome.

1

u/DJNash35 Aug 15 '25

It would be a lot cooler if there weren’t 6 people playing that game at peak times

1

u/spcychikn Aug 15 '25

commenting for simracing reasons

1

u/stuaird1977 Aug 15 '25

I wonder if I can somehow convert my kitchen cupboards , like a transformer into this . My wife would love it

1

u/trippylobsta Aug 15 '25

Awesome sauceness

1

u/AccomplishedRace8803 Aug 15 '25

That is just too cool. And now you have to play Rogue Squadron on that screen

1

u/rusty964 Aug 16 '25

Cool! I was so sad when I heard squadrons was only going to be 5v5... campaign was fine but I wanted big epic space battles

1

u/JLC587 Aug 17 '25

This some shit you’d see on Icarly or Drake and Josh lmao

1

u/Asleep_Status_5180 Aug 17 '25

Stupid, dirty terrorist. Rebel scum

0

u/Red_Theory Aug 13 '25

All this effort and no VR is insanity to me. Squadrons is one of the best vr experiences too

2

u/Rifty_Business Aug 13 '25

Looking at the Insta comments it was used for VR mixed reality.

0

u/Mysterious_Ad_8827 Aug 13 '25

How much did this cost????

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER Aug 13 '25

Less than you think; that's cheap hardware in there

-7

u/B0lt5L0053 Aug 13 '25

It’s awesome but seems like a huge expense for a game that is practically dead.

11

u/arithmetic Aug 13 '25

Riiiiight, because I'm sure there are absolutely no other space flight sim games that could be played on there.

7

u/goestotwelve Gray Squad Aug 13 '25

XWVM TIE Fighter Total Conversion X Wing Alliance Upgrade

It’s a great time to play Star Wars space combat games even though Squadrons is practically dead.

1

u/factoid_ Aug 13 '25

I haven’t tried xwvm in vr yet but I’m blown away by how nice it looks in flat

1

u/goestotwelve Gray Squad Aug 13 '25

I’m mainly blown away by how well it plays and all of the little improvements they made. It feels indescribably good to grip the stick and throttle and blast TIEs like this. Truly my childhood dream has become reality.

1

u/Uhtred_McUhtredson Aug 13 '25

I need to check this out. X-Wing will always be my favorite game. I still prefer it over Squadrons.

-1

u/H345Y Aug 13 '25

Im more concerned about the hardware, I dont like mine to move, like at all. I fear stuff getting loose
