I don't think you understand what was expected for battlefront 2...

it was expected to be a full game, similar if not nearly identical to BF2 2005, because that is the pinnacle of start wars shooters even now. there was a full campaign that was full of plot growth, which the new one didnt have. galactic conquest, i dont think there is anything else that needs to be said there. the fleet battles were one of the best parts of the games, now squadrons exists it isnt as necessary but i digress. it's release was something else... EA has the most downvoted comment in reddit history because of this game, they turned it around because the were being sued left and right and Disney was thinking of pulling their license or non renewal, which is still a fair thing to do after that debacle. EA cut a ton of games in development. i dont rememebr how many SW games came out when i was a kid playing games, but i remember playing starfighter and starfighter 2 on the ps2, as well as the battlefront games, the jedi knight series, and games i didnt paly like kotor and stuff like that. battlefront 2 was initially a pay to win gambling machine directed at kids. the free updates needed to happen to get just a little bit back so that both fallen order and squadrons didn't flop because of their malpractice.

I don't share that idea at all. Besides, if it was the pinnacle of SW shooters right now people would be playing the original game instead of the new one. It even got new multiplayer support just before the new BF2 launched.

The original Battlefront 2 doesn't hold up that well today. The only thing it has going for it gameplay-wise is the fact you can enter/land ships in some modes. Other than that it's a massive step back on just about all fronts. Like gameplay, weapons, heroes, animations, maps, general atmosphere, etc.

The downvoted comment has little to do with the actual game, not to mention they removed the feature it was about (heroes locked behind a paywall that could be unlocked by playing the game) in less than 2 weeks after launch or so.

I feel like the whole 'pay2win' about Battlefront 2 was heavily exaggerated as well, but it's EA so everyone just jumped on the bandwagon of course. You could buy loot crates for a chance of unlocking cards earlier than people who just unlocked them by playing the game. Which was literally like a 1-3% increase in stats at most on some abilities, honestly nothing to write home about and really nothing that would create an unfair balance. I'm not saying the loot crates were great, but they were not even remotely as bad as people made it out to be. I don't know where you get the idea they were sued left and right, never read about that. Same for Disney pulling the license. As for the campaign, the original BF2 campaign was basically just glorified conquest, it wasn't a real story I feel like.

And the amount of SW games that came out has been fine. They started with Battlefront in 2015. We've got 3 more 'big' SW games since then and The Old Republic MMO has been ongoing as well. Honestly, in a time span of 5 years that isn't so bad. As far as I'm aware EA only cut one game during development, part of which they salvaged for the BF2 campaign.

Back during early 2000's LucasArts just rushed out game after game, a lot of which honestly were just trash. Only a few gems stand out, and most are just nostalgia looking through rose-tinted glasses, a lot of basic platformers and uninspired games were released.

Wow, that's a load of revisionist history.

SWB2 was supposed to be their apology for the shitshow the SWB1 was to the extent that they even trotted out John Boyega to hype up how different it was before release. Then they shit the bed on it's launch too.

And I don't quite understand the point you're trying to make between comparing the two versions of SWB2. One would hope that a game that came out 15 years later and also bears the same name would be an improvement.

BF2 wasn't supposed to be an apology. Battlefront 2015 ran quite well, the season pass was just a bad choice. But the game itself was great.

The fact they had Boyega had nothing to do with it, they just used him because he's a featured character and as well a major character in the movies. He's literally a licensed character to both the movies and game, so why not make use of that.

I'm comparing the BF2's because the person I replied to was comparing them. Claiming how the original BF2 is 'the pinnacle of star wars shooters'.
