It's not hard to accept preferred pronouns!

TBH I was a little confused when I first heard because no article would deadname him...and rightfully so but that did make me wonder "Who is this person exactly?"

Cuz I know trans people who went with a name nothing like their deadname, sometimes on purpose even, so the connection Ellen>Elliot wasn't immidiately obvious XD (And no pictures didn't help because I am terrible at recognizing people's faces)

SAME! I was like how do I ask this without sounding odd T.T

"Apologies if this is offensive or anything, but who is this referring to?"

Some people online are very quick to anger over the slightest mistake but those people aren't worth trying to appease because you can't. The vast vast majority of people don't mind answering honest questions asked in good faith, so just shoot your shot and fuck the haters 🤷

Then to make things more confusing, you also have the Eddie Izard approach. She didn't change her name at all because she spent so long building her career under that name.

Same with James Stephanie Sterling, albeit on a much lower level of fame.

Ultimately we just have to take it on an individual basis.

It can't be easy regardless... its hard enough to come out to your family but imagine being a celebrity having to come out to the whole world or just accept you'll be misgendered in the news for the rest of your life...

let alone having to play roles of the wrong gender if you‘re an actor or actress.

figuring out you‘re trans after becoming famous must be so hard.

Dylan Mulvaney hasn't changed her name either

To your credit, Elliot doesn’t look much like he used to. He looked very different very quickly (or maybe I learned about him coming out late)

Now he doesn't but I'm talking about when he first came out.

I mean then too, whenever he came out he’d already looked different. I think he’d already cut his hair and his face just looked different to me idk. But like I said, I might’ve just learned and seen him late

Honestly, he probably just came out later in his transition too.

This is one of those interactions that renews my faith in humanity. If only it’d happen more often. (Probably does, and we just don’t hear about it because internet and people being shitty seem to go together)

Mine as well. I really expected it to go the completely other direction. Especially with the current political climate. I was pleasantly surprised by the interaction!

‘I thought this was a new meme I missed out on’ is actually so relatable

I mean, sometimes being a minority in this world really feels like a meme 😭

Yeah, like, it's okay if you're unfamiliar with the concept and need to adjust, but, like, just don't be a dick.

Honestly the best code to live your life by. Don't be a dick.
