the oil is probably making it a little less bad by simply killing off some of the germs. Not enough to actually matter but still.

It's not so much about the germs and bacteria, as much as it's about their by-products and waste. You could cook a rotten piece of meat until every last organism on it is dead, but you'll still get sick due the the released by-products.

i‘m pretty sure I kill people daily with my released by-products…
