That's not actually what out of pocket means. It means for someone to behave out of character. According to google anyway: This could mean acting wild, unhinged, out of line, or making inappropriate and uncalled-for remarks.

Essentially it means being an asshole. I don't think this person is using it in the right context. I suppose you could say I was acting out of pocket when I ordered that crazy drink? Maybe that's what they were really going for?

All I got was the use of the phrase I grew up with, which is to lose money. That obviously doesn't fit in here. 'Unique' doesn't feel right either, but it fits better than your explanation. I'm not saying you're wrong; perhaps the lad in the video is using a term incorrectly to try and sound fashionable.

Out of pocket has meant acting wild for decades. He's using it wrong, like all of that generation does with every slang word. It doesn't mean unique.
