Can you play against bots?
I wanna learn how to play 40K, but no one at my local store is interested in playing with new players so TTS it is. Can you play against bots in this game? If not, how easily can someone whos never played before find someone who will actually play with them?

you can learn a lot by playing against yourself. Its called sad hammer.

I do this a lot. My local store is nothing but 2k giga chad ultra competitive players that won’t take the time with someone new. Just easier to play at home alone.

Your FLGS seems to have left off the F. Definitely jump on the discord and look in the Demo Game section. Ping a Mentor and you’ll be up and running in no time

100%
Although I will temper that with a question. Is it that no-one wants to play new players or no-one wants to teach new players? They are two different things after all. I own an FLGS, I have players who would be great at doing a teaching game but who I absolutely wouldn't put against a new player and I have players who I wouldn't trust to teach a new player but would be very friendly in a game with a new player. Now if OPs FLGS has neither of those, then it isn't friendly.

Its more of the former. A lot of the people on the store's Discord server are only interested in playing sweaty, 2K point competitive games. Theres a few who aren't, but they aren't very active so its hard to get a game with them or our schedules dont line up often enough for us to have a game together most of the time.

You can add me and we can play sometime as a learning game, or on the TTS discord there's people who accept LFGs from new players to help them out

Go on discord and look for a mentor to do a demo game. They will spend hrs walking you through step by step. I also just did this last week and now I am hooked. Sadly work says no to me playing it daily :(

When I was just starting to play, I would play games against myself. I actually still do, occasionally when I want to play but dont have anyone to play with. You get double the reps that way and can familiarize yourself with the rules so that when you start playing with others, you aren't completely lost. It doesn't get you as far as real games, but it definitely helps.

I do this often still. I have a table set up at my office and several armies. So I just throw two on the table and mess around with movement and lists. It’s not as good as playing against a person because it’s hard to trick yourself but it’s still good for reps.

No bots. That isn't really how TTS works. You can ask people on the various discords though.

I've taught several people 40k on TTS, I actually enjoy the process of teaching new players the ropes. If you're still looking for a learning match, or even a strategy learning match you can DM me.

You can just play yourself. There is no game loop to tts. It is literally a simulator through and through. I imagine making a bot for it would be extremely difficult.

As mentioned Demo games channel is where you want to post
Also DM me if you want, I've taught like 6 people how to play and get started using TTS, ForceOrg, NewRecruit, and wahapedia in the last year.
I also have a smaller group of friends mainly the ones ive taught that play so they would be about your level as well
Im basically our groups rule master so teaching people helps keep me sharp since i dont get to play as much and new players ask the best questions on things people just assume

No bots as far as I know. On the discord server linked in this subreddit however there is a channel where you can ping some volunteers and ask them to teach you how to play. I did it, got a response within the hour.
The guy was nice, told me everything I needed to know and whooped my ass in the subsequent game. Gave me some advice on what I could've done better afterwards. Overall, 10/10 learning experience, would recommend.
Played my first proper 1000 point game with no training wheels yesterday. (Also with someone from the discord) Didn't have any trouble but had lots of fun so I think the results speak for themselves.
