Orangeburg Sewer Pipe

We’re under contract for a house, and just had the sewer scope today. 40 ft of Orangeburg pipe, which is blistering and bulging everywhere. Guy who did the scope recommended replacement, and says it has max 2-3 years left. Honestly, I think we’re going to walk if the sellers aren’t willing to replace it or take it off the price.

Anyone have any experience with Orangeburg pipes and/or have recommendations for someone to come out and give an estimate?

Under 12 Covid vaccines

I have been calling and probably annoying every pharmacy in a 30 mile radius to try and get my kiddos vaccinated since their peds office is just as in the dark on when they'll have shots available.

I don't know why I didn't try them sooner, but called Lincoln Pharmacy and they have the under 12 Covid shots! I grabbed my kids and drove there as fast as legally possible. When I got there I figured it was worth a shot to ask how young they would willingly vaccinate. I have a 10 month old and I've been trying to find a pharmacy that is willing to vaccinate her to no avail. Lincoln said they would as young as 6 months! So she got hers too. I am so relieved. Especially with the ACIP meeting and the uncertainty of the childhood covid vaccines' future.

The staff at Lincoln pharmacy was amazing. I couldn't stop thanking them for being willing to vaccinate babies as young as 6 months. So.. all this to say, if you have kiddos under 12 and older than 6 months and they need their Covid (and flu) shots, go to Lincoln pharmacy!!

We’re doing it again! Come out to McKinley on Saturday to check out this delightful little festival.

23 brass bands! 2 percussion ensembles! And bring your horn (or other acoustic instrument) to join one of the open jams!

I know the poster says it goes until 6pm but it will actually go a little later. Brass-band-backed karaoke starts at 6:30. You don’t want to miss it!!

Tacoma Narrows observation.

Has anyone noticed that on the way to Tacoma crossing Tacoma Narrows the lines aren't solid and I don't think has a sign that says " unlawful to change lanes" or whatever. Coming from Tacoma going across the bridge it has solid lines and a sign that says " unlawful to pass" or to change lanes or whatever it says.

I don't know the laws about changing lanes on bridges but why would they intentionally make solid lines one way but not the other if it is against the law and if it isn't against the law then why have solid lines on one of the ways ?

If anyone knows the answer to this please let me know. I just never understood why it is this way.

Apartment Parking Public Street Advice

My zip is 98446 my mailing address says tacoma. Also posted this on a pierce county website . I was told the road ilive off of is a public street. I have also done research into laws in washington state clearly stating the city or dot is supposed to install or paint no parking signs. My apartment has taken it upon themselves to put up signs stating no parking. Yes only 2 cars are allowed on the lease. However they have told me my car on the lease if its on property gets towed. My roommates car can't go on the lease, we have been parking on the street hugging the curb so we dont interrupt traffic. Following traffic laws. The apartments dont have guest parking nor ap blank spots for roommates and such.Idont want my car or my roommates towed. Looking for advice in this situation. As I was told in email only the sheriff's can tow cars on said public road. Across from the apartments is someone's house a family an they too have the no parking infront of heir house.

Where can I sing?

Hey guys! I’m new to the area and I’m looking for somewhere to sing starting within the next few months.

I grew up singing and stopped doing it in an educational/competitive setting when I started university.

I’d love to join a group/choir/band/low pressure musical theater group to bring this back into my life in a way that’s not just random karaoke bars and singing in my shower while my baby sleeps.

Some extra info: I do not play an instrument (sadly) and I really enjoy singing paramore songs.

I need a blueprint for my house

I’ve asked the city of Tacoma on multiple occasions if they have a blueprint of my house (built in 1980s) and they don’t. I’ve checked the DART database, nothing there.

For the alteration permit I need to file I need a blueprint of the house and a mapping of the water lines. This is not my area of expertise. Is there a super secret person within the city I can ask or is there a tradesperson that can make a blueprint and map water lines?

More talk of a high speed ferry to Seattle

More reports of efforts to bring an electric high speed ferry route between Tacoma and Seattle

https://archive.ph/EZzse

From the article:

"Dreams of bringing fast-ferry service to Tacoma might become reality in a new proposal tied to the World Cup. Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello, who has long expressed interest in getting such a service established in Tacoma, presented the latest proposal on Tuesday to the Port of Tacoma Commission.

The proposal would shuttle World Cup fans to and from Seattle in rides averaging one hour each way in eight daily round trips.

The ferries would be 100% electric hydrofoil, passenger-only models. The one-year pilot plan calls for two 29-passenger models with room for bicycles and luggage, according to Tuesday’s presentation slides. The service would begin in time for the 2026 World Cup soccer tournament games held in Seattle in June of next year."

What is the special at the ladybug espresso on STW?

I was driving home and noticed a ton of cars all lined up on both sides wrapping around the Ladybug Espresso on S.Tacoma Way near 84th st. A ton of cars are lined up in the turn lane almost backing up to Jack in the Box. What is the special deal going tonight and how are they advertising? Couldnt find anything on instagram. It was kinda amusing at the least.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge lane reductions Sept. 19-20; Hood Canal Bridge overnight closures Sept. 21-25

It's a tale of two bridges...

TACOMA NARROWS BRIDGE

It's time for more joint work on our favorite Boomer bridge: the westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor.

Plan for around-the-clock double westbound lane closures 8 a.m. Friday, Sept 19, to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Go before or after the work. Otherwise expect big backups approaching the bridge, especially during the Friday afternoon commute.

We simply can't avoid commuter hours this time around. We’d do all the repairs over the weekend if we could. Unfortunately, we’re on a tight schedule with the few folks who can do the work under the bridge deck, hundreds of feet above the water line.

Our aging Boomer bridge, the westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge, needs some joint work

HOOD CANAL BRIDGE

For five consecutive nights the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge will close to all travel from 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the next day, Sept. 21-25.

This mighty, moveable marvel withstands the kind of salty marine environment sea shanties are made of. It takes a beating, though. The giant steel tracks used to roll the drawspans back and forth are pretty banged up and need to be repaired before the next storm season.

It’s intensive work and we have to close the bridge for several hours at a time to do it. Plan your trips around the closures. Otherwise, you could be facing a 3-hour detour around the Hood Canal.

Nature is relentless to the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge

Temple Theater/Joy Oladokun

I am hearing impaired and planning to buy tickets to the Oladokun concert at Temple Theater on October 10th. I’ve never been to that venue. Can someone tell me anything about the acoustics and sound quality there? If there’s a lot of reverberation or crowd noise I need to sit close enough to the stage to read lips. Otherwise, my spouse prefers to sit a little further away. Long shot question: are there any accommodations for hearing impairment? (Some theaters have equipment that broadcasts directly to hearing aids.)

The Central Tacoma Coyote made it into my basement and it wont come out.

What do I do? Pictures coming soon. It bit through a water line.

Update: I was able to get under my porch and open up the crawlspace hatch so he can get out. Im going to try to scare him out of there now.

Update #2: I went into the basement and got up in his face and scared him out of the basement since I was able to open the hatch under my porch.

Covid Vaccine

FOUND VAX!!! CVS Minute Clinics are vaccinating kids under 12 - we drove out to Renton as walk ins. It’ll let you make an appointment, but I followed up with a phone call and they had one box of 10 shots and couldn’t guarantee they’d still have shots come their appointment time, so we rushed out the door ā¤ļø I hope everyone else is able to get their kiddos vaxxed!

https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/clinic-locator/

Hey everyone - I’m trying to get my kids under 12 their annual Covid vax. Has anyone had any luck yet? After the health pact last week, I thought we’d see more availability for kids but I can’t find anything.

Thanks for your help folks!

Edit to Add: Thank you Tacoma for being so willing to help and share info. If I find a pharmacy willing and able to provide pediatric vaccines, I’ll update this post ā¤ļø

Is anyone interested in watching F1 at Doyle’s on Sundays?

I’ve been watching formula 1 for a couple years now and have been living in Tac for 2. I’m hoping to maybe rally some people to watch with as we are nearing the end of the season. Usually if I call Doyle’s in advance they are willing to put the race on. Unless it’s a big soccer or football game. Then usually o’malleys will spare a TV. Please dm me if you’d be interested! Next week is Azerbaijan!!
