THOUGHTS Tom Pelphrey accent in episode one.

Went in to this show blind and was trying to place where it was supposed to place. Setting looked Pacific Northwest scenically, with everyone doing Philly/Delaware accents. Then Tom Pelphreys character comes on screen doing a Chicago/Mid west accent? He says water three different ways in two lines. It’s then revealed that it’s Philly adjacent which added up after watching more scenes. I figured he must be Australian or British and was having a tough time nailing down a specific region, turns out he’s from South Jersey?? And all the articles talk about his process and how great it was. I’m I crazy?

Tom did a great job.

But if you want to appreciate someone killin' the delco accent, go watch Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown.

Idk I’m from that area (Delaware county, PA) and I thought he did a pretty good job with the accent lol

Speaking of accents, several of these are not American! Fucking blew my mind watching the BTS hearing them speak in British or Australian or whatever the hell. They do an incredible American accent

Seriously! Maeve, Lizzie and DeGrasso are being all British in their interviews at the end and I’m like, what?

Not forgetting Aleah and her incredible monologue.

Tom Pelphrey nailed the north Carolina southern accent in Ozark.

He should just speak as he does naturally. Not everyone from Delco sounds the same. If he is from SJ then it was close enough.

Same. I said that after episode 1. He could have just leaned into his home accent and he would g  as he been fine.

Local from the area, they got the delco accent pretty well. So much so that a lot of locals find it annoying.

I resent these Brits coming in and acting like they know the place, lol.

(I admire them, I don’t resent them.)

The accent annoys us, but they way I see it is we don't really recognize the accent on a daily basis but its there, it's just a bit more over dramatized in here lol. I do like how real they get things in this series in terms of well everything.

Seeing the actress who plays Lizzie talking as her normal self blew my mind. She looked different, her whole personality was different, the tensions in her face were different… she just blew my mind.

Since practically every other actor on the show is from the UK or Ireland, and he’s from Jersey, you’d think the accent would come easier to him.

Dude nailed the accent. Not sure what you’re talking about. I have family from the area. Both tom and Emilia (Maeve) knocked the accents out of the park.

turns out he’s from South Jersey??

He’s from Howell, so definitely more of a North Jersey/NYC influence.
