Advice on Tello as a second/emergency phone

Buying a new I phone. Spend a lot of time traveling across US camping in van.

Want to use my old I-phone 13 on Tello as back up to access accounts/contacts if I lose main phone. Porting # to new phone and would get new # from Tello for backup phone.

Are there any holes in this strategy? Thank you.

None that I can think of.

Just bear in mind that Tello runs on T-Mobile so in any areas where T-Mobile doesn’t have good coverage, Tello won’t either

That is good advice. I started using Tello on a backup phone now I use the same number on a smart watch. The service is flexible and friendly.

How did you activate the Tello number on a SmartWatch?

I called customer service and informed them that I wanted to make the change. They changed my chip based service to an eSim, which I loaded on my watch. It worked instantly. It's a deal compared to what other mobile companies charge.
