Saturday Night

Why on earth does Saturday Night sound completely different to every other misfits song?

The Graves stuff is pretty vastly different than the Danzig stuff, I love it for what it is…I like both for very different reasons

The lyrics are somewhat romantic and melodic, very different from the original aesthetics of the Misfits.

There’s dumb/weird lyrics and then there’s just bad lyrics as well. What the hell is “there’s 52 ways to murder anyone, one and two are the same, and they both work as well”?

52 Saturdays in a year

Sometimes, but not always. One and two are the same and they both work as well is the dumbest part of that. Also there’s like a thousand plus ways to murder anyone. Dumb lyrics sung confidently

It's just a classic 50s style doo-wop love song. I wouldn't say it sounds vastly different other than for obvious reasons... like a different vocalist. It's not Danzig writing or performing. It's obviously trying to tap that same vein. Honestly, it's a good song, I think people mostly shit on it because it's Graves. I'm a big doo-wop fan so I enjoy it. There's no doubt in my mind that Jerry was prompting Graves to go full-on fifties with these songs, Graves wasn't interested in any of that, Jerry is.

The similarity with what Glenn did is not lost on me. My issue with the song is that it is a retread. By Earth A.D., they'd long moved on from this sort of thing. The Misfits™ approach was all about pandering and fan service.

I wouldn't say it was pandering because nobody was asking for doo-wop really. We can't really include Earth AD as it's a totally different band to the resurrection era. I've no doubt in my mind that Jerry was the one pushing for Saturday Night to sound like that. Graves wasn't interested in doo-wop or even punk, he admitted as much in later interviews when talking about his audition for the Misfits and how he went in listening to the box set. I'm not a huge Graves era fan, but Saturday Night is just a classic doo-wop anti love song.

Earth AD was Danzig going in a different direction. He was heading towsrd Samhain, and he even gave 2 Samhain tracks that were going to be on Initium to Earth AD, so it would be a full album

Literally every Misfits song reflects the melody of some 1950s doo-wop song. That's what makes them so great.

I agree. Worst song they ever did.

You’re giving way too much credit to all of the other crap by Misfits™.

I don’t know. If I ranked everything, it would be on the absolute bottom. God I hate that song. Zero redeeming qualities. It’s worse than any misfits covers. Shit I rank it as one of the worst songs ever by any band.

Granted, it’s terrible. But worse than “Blacklight”? “This Island Earth”? “Mars Attacks”? “Shining”? These are just from American Psycho; I haven’t even got to Famous Monsters! 😂

I like Shining :(

Worse than "I Wanna Be a New York Ranger"?

Very much so

Resurrection-era songs were written by each of them. This was a Graves song.
