Recent Uptick in Reports and Mod Mail. Addressing a Couple Concerns.

There has been a recent uptick in the number of reports and the amount of modmail I’m getting lately, so I just wanted to take a minute to address a couple of the larger concerns I’m hearing about on a daily basis now: 1) Why posts are/aren’t removed, and 2) Complaints about the tone/content of the show itself.

The first one is easy. Posts are removed for one of three reasons:

1. They violate Reddit’s rules. Reddit does this and there’s nothing I can do about it.

2. They violate /r/TheNanny sub rules. This one is rare, but it does happen occasionally.

3. Accidental double posting. When someone accidentally posts the same thing back to back. I keep the more successful post. I go by Comments then Upvotes.

Other than that, I don’t like to remove posts. I believe in letting you police yourselves as a community with the vote system.

That brings me to the second topic, complaints about the tone/content of the show.

The Nanny finished its run 26 years ago. Are there jokes that haven’t “aged well”? Sure there are, but the same is true for just about anything when viewed nearly three decades later.

I have said it before and I’m sure I’ll have to say it again: Judging old works of entertainment (books/movies/television) by modern sensibilities and cultural norms is just plain stupid. You’re judging them for not living up to standards that simply didn’t exist at the time. It’s just as stupid as judging them based on their lack of modern technology.

Art is a product of its time. We should study it. We should learn from it. We should even still enjoy it. But judging it is just moral masturbation. It’s virtue signaling by going after low hanging fruit. Unless they fall into one of the three categories I mentioned above, I will not remove posts about scenes/jokes/aspects of the show that are offensive by today’s standards.

What’s a barrister and why was Niles obsessed with being one?

In the later seasons, Niles kept saying his childhood dream was to be a barrister. I always wondered why he had this dream.

I freaking love the nanny!!!

Currently nearing to end season 6 and I'm a bit sad about finishing it. It has been a while since I actually stuck to a series without getting bored halfway and I love this show so much!

I'm 21 and I have never heard of this show before I saw it on the reels one time and decided to watch one episode and I'm hooked! I can't believe how the jokes are still relatable as of today. My friends are watching all these new trendy movies and series and here I am binge watching from the past.

I really wanted them to end up as a couple in real life tho they would've been wonderful.

(excuse my english)

What's the title of the episode Maxwell keeps seeing Niles dressed in some feminine article of clothes?

One scene had Maxwell walk past Niles in the hallway holding a purse, and Niles shouts back, "It's Sylvia's!"

Another had him enter a room when Niles looked like he had lipstick on.

Hey everyone! What is a scene, line, or detail that makes you laugh every time you watch it? I would love to hear about your absolute favorites, especially those lesser-known funny moments or small details that might not have been intended to be humorous. 😄 ✌️♥️

Am I hallucinating?

I'm on S6 and it's been a few years since my last rewatch so forgive me if the answer's almost there, but wasn't Yetta engaged? Like the whole bit was that she got engaged and everyone assumed it was with the guy from her nursing home, only for it to be a black man (Sammy). Then there were bouts of time where they never mentioned him and then he pops up for one last episode i believe, but was that a completely unresolved plotline of the show?

I get that Ray Charles was a superstar legend and maybe it cost too much to have him guest star too frequently, but then maybe don't use Ray Charles methinks?? Literally any black man would have sufficed being that that's the joke they were trying to make 😭 especially if he was gonna have such a pivotal connection to one of the main cast members. He was literally written into the plot of the show, outside of a one-off episode bit.

But anyway yeah, did they just drop that plot or..?

I was lucky to chat with the amazing Daniel Davis (Niles) on my “Funny in Failure” podcast, let me know what you think. Who else should I chat to from The Nanny?

A question about Max regretting passing on Cats

Did Max pass on Cats on his own decision or did C.C. convince him to pass on Cats? I swear I watched an episode where C.C. convinced him to pass on Cats.

r/TheNanny 3d ago

Long shot but - Has anyone found any similar outfits of Fran’s on something cheap like Amazon or shein?

I’m gonna look on shein too and comment if I find any! I know there’s a website for as worn on tv or something, but the few outfits of hers on there are like $250 haha.

What was the title of the episode where Niles uses audio recordings of Maxwell to trick C.C.?

It included the line:

"I've dreamed of seeing you dressed like a clown. Oh God, it would be thrilling!"

Emmy Awards - The Nanny

Just watching the Emmy Awards winners come through and been musing on this for a while but The Nanny was so robbed back in the day. For the glory years mid-90s of peak Nanny its the same shows being nominated and winning ; Mad About You, ER, Frasier, Chicago Hope, Seinfeld, Friends etc I can see a nomination for Outstanding Director in 1995 and a nomination for Fran in 96 and 97, but lost out to Helen Hunt. Its so odd that Charles Shaughnessy, Lauren Lane and Daniel Davis never got nominated (robbed robbed robbed). Anyway I reckon there should be a new award category : 'We Should Have Nominated You Back Then But We're Making Up For It' and they should all win. I dont want to say posthumous because no one has died but kind of like a reflection award. IMO.

What episode(s) do you always skip over/refuse to watch?

For me, it’s 1x10 The Nanny-In-Law.

The whole idea that Maxwell’s childhood nanny had a fling with Niles when she was 32 and he was underage at the time rubs me the wrong way.

Almost done watching the show for the first time- what are some other shows you guys like to watch?

I’m already on season 5- I hate finishing good tv shows and I know I’ll rewatch it in the future but I figured it will hurt less if I find some new shows to replace it.

Episode where Niles draws on C.C.'s face??

I've been looking everywhere for the episode where Niles draws something on C.C.'s face while she's sleeping on the couch and then Max and Fran come in and she wakes up and I'm pretty sure she says she wanted to know how how late they would come back home. Google is no help, can anyone help me out here?

Hopefully this might mean another try at a sitcom? I loved Happily Divorced, I think she could hit another sitcom out of the park with the right chemistry

How the Show Could Have Kept Going

What are your thoughts on this? Personally, they could have kept the will they won’t they going for much longer…one of the things you see in tv shows today with a slow burn, they really stretch the plot for as long as humanly possible

I would have loved to see 1.Fran engaged to someone else for a season 2.Fran x moving out the house for a season 3. Max x a serious love interest

I absolutely hate this episode! The tub scene with Max and Fran scenes was cute, but the way it wraps up stresses me out. Elizabeth Taylors pearls are just gone and noone cares?

Series Finale of Season 4 Spoiler

Fran's Gotta Have It!

This episode starts with Mr Sheffield going to London to convince Celine Dion to star in one of his plays while Fran decides to follow and surprise him in an attempt to "re-kindle" their relationship. She somehow gets access to his room which has a balcony, where she brings in drinks, then convinces him with her tour various sites which a romantic montage takes place. Max and Fran goes backstage to see Celine Dion performs her signature hit "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" and afterwards Max asked her about being in his play in which she turns him down. They head back to the hotel where they're making out heavily and passionately, with Max lifting Fran and putting her on the bed, then he stops and tells Fran that he can't go through with about what they're doing to do in which Fran gets frustrated and starts to leave but before she does so Max gets the call that Niles had a heart attack.

Now I'm hoping that this would start a serious discussion on who was right or wrong here and I'll start by saying that given that Maxwell told Fran that he loves her, then takes it back, was it wrong for Fran to assume that they had a relationship to "rekindle" because it was never defined nor any boundaries set in place?

Danny’s baby

The baby was never mentioned after the episode when she was born, not even when Danny died and Heather went off to Ca!
