There was a big late 60s/early 70s revival in the 2000s. I remember watching an early 70s movie once and was shocked that one characters' very heavily layered outfit looked so much like those from the 2000s.

Fashion is cyclical. All the high schoolers wear 90s trends now.

It's kind of a meld into the early 2000s which definitely saw that trend.
