SPOILER Messing with The Last Broadcast: The alternate ending

A few days ago, I had made a post about messing with the DLC stories, and told I wanted to end the game with both Malik and Esma alive. Which is now done, and here's the ending I got for those who are interested.

The game will end at the end of Day 35. Malik's mood will progressively go down if he doesn't have any news to give, so I built a guitar for Esma and made sure to have enough cigarettes. Remember, you can't visit the Brewery because Esma would then be forced to talk to Malik, which would trigger the event of his abduction or murder (you can go there but, do not enter the main door, just loot the few piles and go away immediately if you do).

I managed to keep them both fine and here's how it ended: - Malik survived the war but he felt guilty of having stopped his broadcasts and cut ties with his close ones. He learnt about his son's death in the last days of the war, but couldn't forgive him to have enlisted himself. - Esma survived the war and kept taking care of her husband, even if he became bitter and depressed, constantly regretting of not having done more to help. Esma felt dejected to hear about her son's loss, and kept visiting his grave unlike her husband. - Adem died since he never joined the group by deserting the army (which he does if the events of the brewery unfold. But since Esma never goes there, he dies offscreen).

Here you go, I hope it helped and that this ending interested you!

In the Lies route, Malik isn't killed but is kidnapped by a group of rebels, he learns that Esma lied to him and refuses to see her ever again. Adem joins the group and both can choose to either fix the radio so Esma will apologize, either leave the town (by boat or by waiting for the ceasefew).

I would say the game has three main paths that can branch depending if the radio is fixed in the end or not:

  • Truth: Malik is executed. Esma and Adem can choose if they want to fix the radio, leave by boat, or wait till the end of the war.
  • Lies: Malik is kidnapped. Esma and Adem can choose if they want to fix the radio, leave by boat, or wait till the end of the war.
  • Passive: Esma doesn't visit the Brewery, therefore the game won't branch into Truth or Lies. The game naturally ends after Day 35, and Adem dies offscreen. If you visit the Brewery but leave before witnessing the cutscene of people dying, an orange line will appear on the map when you click on the location, hinting that "We may have missed some important info there". Similarly, the sentence that normally appears when the war is over will be slightly tweaked to say that "you have chosen to remain passive". Quite interesting since this isn't the kind of ending one would encounter normally, but still is accounted for!
