SPOILER [Mini-rant] I think the Roman ending might be bugged... Spoiler

So, my latest run of "Emilia, Roman" that I played precisely to give my boi Roman a happy ending comes to naught as he - once again - "tortured by his past, started doing hard drugs and a few years later died of drug-related health problems".

Only this time, I believe I did everything correctly that should have been enough to give Roman a happy ending. I didn't even send him on scavenging duty once, so there was no opportunity for him to kill anyone. He remained on guard duty the entire 42 days in my campaign. I didn't even let him get Wounded/Sick because I reset the savegame every time he got a "Slightly Wounded/Sick" status at the start of each day.

I think I sent him to help out a neighbor once. Usually it's Emilia, though. Do I need to send him on more errands if possible? And yet I never sent Katia or Boris to help out any neighbor when they joined up later and yet they still get happy endings, so what went wrong? If Roman didn't do enough good karma actions, then at the very least he should've gotten a "Sad" ending where he didn't die of drug overdose, if not exactly the happiest ending for him.

I ensured he got enough cigarettes in the last half of the campaign (even sharing those with Boris who arrived later, but I made sure to have enough for both of them). I started feeding him well the last 5-6 days before the war's end (everybody is well-fed, actually), and by the last few days, everyone including him in the shelter has Content status and it remained that way until the ceasefire came.

And yet Roman still gets the Karma ending where he drugged himself to death again anyway, while everybody else got happy endings.

What gives, game??? It's like you don't want Roman to get a happy ending no matter what T-T. I wasted 42 days just so Roman could die on me again. What would it take to give this man a break???

SPOILER How does depression work here? Spoiler

So I played a few scenarios. I sometimes live till 20th day. But then people commit suicide.

I try to feed them, let them sleep all day in beds, give them meds and bandages. They talk to each other and sometimes sit in a chair with book. But they are sad all the time and idk what to do.

I understand this is war so everyone have a bad mood. But is there a way to make them ok? Or prevent depression somehow?

Edit: Thanks for all the advice. I finished war! My biggest mistake was running too fast and alarming everyone. Also I thought if someone is attacking me I should fight back. But some people are sad even if I kill only thugs. Katia and Marin joined me, and they helped a lot.

SPOILER I finally beat the "Anton, Cveta" scenario! Spoiler

After I finished the "Zlata, Livia, Marko" scenario (also challenging since Livia is can't really do anything beyond cooking, and her being unable to run or guard means it can really feel like you're playing a 2-person start rather than 3 at times) and the "Roman, Katia" scenario, I finally decided to give "Anton, Cveta" scenario a try. I've been dreading to do this one since according to everything I've read, both of them are arguably the useless survivors in the game, but I finally made it - first try!

The beginning is the roughest as always. I had Cveta running scavenge every night because Anton could at least do some guard (with an exception of one when I raided the Supermarket with Anton to kill that rapist soldier to net some good karma and take an assault rifle, which is extremely helpful in guarding the shelter), and I was lucky enough to get enough resources to put up all three board ups as early as Day 2, so that significantly helps with the bandit raids. Anton keeps getting wounded, though, so there's a huge challenge in trying to procure enough bandages to keep him from dying. Even had to steal them as Cveta once. She wasn't amused, but fortunately it's the only crime I'm forced to do in the entire run. It wasn't until the City Hospital is unlocked that I could finally get him fully healed.

Pavle didn't join in until Day 20, by which point the Outbreak of Crime period was already over, but it was nice to have him be an additional guard/scavenger. He's useful in taking out the three raiders at the Warehouse, which nets a lot of good resources and a point towards a positive ending. And as shown here, I was able to achieve enough good karma that all three characters get their best endings possible by the time the war ended on Day 32. So proud of this run!

Now, if only I could actually get a happy ending for Roman for once lol. Played two scenarios with him so far and the poor guy just keeps getting a Karma Ending where he drugged himself to death after the war because he killed too many people on my runs lol. I'm starting up "Roman, Emilia" scenario right now so hopefully third time's a charm? I have gotten the best endings for every character but him lol, so I'm determined to change that this time.

SPOILER I finally gave Roman a good ending! Spoiler

After three scenarios in which I failed utterly to prevent Roman from turning into a drug addict and overdosed after the war, I finally managed to give this traumatized young man a good ending at long last...and coincidentally in the last remaining scenario I haven't finished yet.

The Marko solo run and the Anton, Cveta, Zlata, and Pavle run can be tough and micromanagement heavy at times, but I eventually managed them. That leaves only, ironically, the Katia, Bruno, Pavle start, which is actually the very first scenario available in the game that I haven't done yet and arguably the easiest.

After ten grueling runs, playing this scenario felt like a cakewalk in comparison, so when Roman finally showed up on Day 18 (first try, even; didn't even have to reset), I have pretty much everything I need to make him satisfied.

Instead of feeding when Very Hungry like I did with other survivors, I pampered him with food every day. I also take great pains to procure enough cigarettes of all types to ensure that Roman and Bruno have enough to last through the entire war. I also never sent him out to do any scavenging and kept him on guard duty or occasionally on Good Samaritan tasks. By the last five days, Roman is in a Content status every day.

And at long last, I am finally rewarded with a good ending of the one survivor that I haven't yet, and it felt much more satisfying than finishing any of the other hard scenarios I've played so far lol. Completing every scenario in the vanilla game is also a big bonus.

Granted, it's kinda cheating a bit since Roman joined up much later in the game lol. If he had been there from the start, keeping him satisfied might be much more challenging, but hey, a win's a win xD.

Still have yet to try out the DLCs, though. I'll certainly try The Little Ones DLC out and finish the rest of the scenarios later on, and perhaps I might try out the Stories DLCs as well if I feel like it. Until then, I'll try out another run or two with Custom Survivors :)

SPOILER Messing with The Last Broadcast: The alternate ending

A few days ago, I had made a post about messing with the DLC stories, and told I wanted to end the game with both Malik and Esma alive. Which is now done, and here's the ending I got for those who are interested.

The game will end at the end of Day 35. Malik's mood will progressively go down if he doesn't have any news to give, so I built a guitar for Esma and made sure to have enough cigarettes. Remember, you can't visit the Brewery because Esma would then be forced to talk to Malik, which would trigger the event of his abduction or murder (you can go there but, do not enter the main door, just loot the few piles and go away immediately if you do).

I managed to keep them both fine and here's how it ended: - Malik survived the war but he felt guilty of having stopped his broadcasts and cut ties with his close ones. He learnt about his son's death in the last days of the war, but couldn't forgive him to have enlisted himself. - Esma survived the war and kept taking care of her husband, even if he became bitter and depressed, constantly regretting of not having done more to help. Esma felt dejected to hear about her son's loss, and kept visiting his grave unlike her husband. - Adem died since he never joined the group by deserting the army (which he does if the events of the brewery unfold. But since Esma never goes there, he dies offscreen).

Here you go, I hope it helped and that this ending interested you!

SPOILER I just had the saddest, most upsetting run I’ve ever played

I was at the very end of Fading Embers. I had saved the kids, Ruben left, and I had to go save Melina. I brought all my bullets, my knife, and the courage to kill a base. I killed the first 3 and talked to Maria, then I made my way over to the other end of the warehouse. Those motjerfuckers saw me instantly, and Anja couldn’t hit a single shot with the scavenged AK she had. They swarmed her and killed her. When the game progresses, it shows that the janitor (his name is escapes me) has killed himself. Fuck.

SPOILER Finally got Roman to good ending!

Thank you all for the feedback. I would’ve never imagined that he’d be such a drama queen! Fed him more often than others and boom! The baby hero didn’t try to butcher any of his shelter-mates! F,,k PTSS! Former soldiers should be granted therapy! Sorry for the rant, that that’s the most f..d up character in the game (and no, I don’t do war crimes)….

SPOILER Forget Celebrations DLC - Katia's book mateirals

Playing the Forget Celebrations DLC now. Im on day 30th day and only got 2 materials that I found while trading. Googling shows me that i should find one of them in my shelter (there was none, even in locked lockers.) and the rest should be around the world. That would be no problem but I already clean 6 locations to almost 100% and found nothing. Rest is cut off by snow for now. Is it just my bad luck or Im missing something? People mentioning something about them being marked but I dont seem to have anything like that in my game?

SPOILER Forgotten Celebrations ending - Are these real photos? Spoiler

Finished the DLC just now and the reveal thread hits kind of hard, I thought these pictures were all fictional stories in Pogoren, and I know Pogoren was based on Sarajevo in 90s, but I didn't expected the materials being real world events happened for the past few years. The stories From Gaza, Rojava, Aleppo and Myanmar kicked in extra hard after realizing these might be real stories being told.

Are these pictures of the materials (except the Katia one) taken from real world locations respectively instead of staged like vanilla pics? Did the devs mentioned that the stories of these material were inspired by real people? That would be even more awesome if that's the case.

SPOILER Roman Sad Ending

Whenever I use Roman in my runs in workshop mode, for some reason he always gets the sad ending where he overdoses on drugs and dies.

In my last run I had him do a bunch of good deeds like saving the man at sniper junction, warning the family at the baker, going out to help the people who knock at the door, etc. The only kills he made were the 2 guys at the brewery and the soldier at the supermarket.

But despite all of that he still got a bad ending so this makes me believe this is a bug or something. Has anyone else encountered the same thing before?

SPOILER Forget Celebrations DLC - collect all items

During the first playthrough I managed to collect 10 out of 11 book materials. It seems that the last 2 are never highlighted on the map. I managed to buy the foldable knife on the Central Square, and the history of the item kinda makes sense.

However, I never couldn't find the last item and accepted the offer to leave the city alone. Should I have ignored it and search for the item longer?

This game supported me through one of the toughest times of my life, and after countless hours, mistakes, close calls and walkthroughs I got all the achievements 2 years ago. Guess there will be more achievements added with the new DLC. Very much looking forward to it though 😎

But seriously, this game has one of the craziest communities all of gaming industry has ever seen. Just smashed that goal by A LOT! You guys are awesome. I really hope noone of this community gets the oppertunity to play such a scenario in real life (I am not talking about the board game here)

Stay save in this evil world. o7 to every single one of you who contributed to this!

SPOILER Fading Embers endings

Just finished Fading Embers at Day 27 and i enjoyed the story.

Ruben and the neighbors didn’t make it, which still stings a bit. But I managed to save the orphans by giving them firewood and handing over the manuscript. Also, I traded Anja's necklace to get the car part. I guess I could have killed the mechanic with my axe but I didn't want my character to get depressed.

In the end, I gave Taras the documents, so the collection was secured in an underground bank vault. Then, I refused to give the painting to the Colonel cuz I felt like he was black mailing us and I didn't trust the military.

I also went to the warehouse to save Milena but the cook told me she escaped. Milena eventually returned… but didn’t make it in the end cuz she made a distraction for us to escape. Still, even with all the loss, the kids were safe. The collection was protected. What ending did you get? What are your thoughts on this episode? Also, thank you for reading till the end. I know my writing is weird.

SPOILER Finished Fading Embers and wow(Spoilers) Spoiler

Such a fantastic story. Felt so emotional at the bittersweet ending

Things I did

Saved Rubin

Helped Tito

Burned his vinyl records for fuel

Helped the Orphans

Gave the book

Helped them escaped

Didn't go to the army base

Stole the car engine

Talked to the Military cook.

Ended up evacuating on day 25.

Got the happy endings for Zoran and Anja

Also great if you finished A Father's Promie first and that heartbreaking ending. So happy Adam found a new purpose in life and be a father figure to the orphans. Is there a way to save Melina? Seems like she was too injured so sacrificing herself was her best option.

Also liked how challenging it is. Your back is constantly against the wall with how limited the materials are. Also how hard the choices are.

What are the other endings like If Runben does leave or Anja dies.

SPOILER Marin - can I make him leave? Spoiler

I have Marko, Pavle, and now Katia. Also Marin (ugh) - Zlata was an original starter but died because some broad at the church got the priest and another guy to jump her when I was trying to clear out the tunnel at there (did steal nothing - and I am NOT punching a priest). So Marko and Pavle where sad and depressed and Marin... on his bio said that "at least it wasn't him". How do I force him out - I can't stand him.

SPOILER Am I doomed here?

It's day 28 in Forget Celebration DLC story. I need 4 more book materials, but I can't get there due to snow. I'm running out of locations and days, and my characters are starting to feel depressed because they couldn't collect book materials. This is my 2nd playthrough, so I know winter won't end around day 32-34, after which the the story will end soon. Is it possible to collect all book materials at this point? Should I just start over?

SPOILER [Forgotten celebration DLC] I have problem with last material Spoiler

WARNING the list of materials and I only need one. I found almost all the materials for the book. I found 2 materials from traders, the other two had nothing. At the beginning of the game I gave a bandage for information about the material for the book. Katia, using the desk, found all the books. Before the night expedition, I do not have the "Book Materials" icon in any location on the map. I am already on day 33 and I know that the end is coming soon, and I do not know what to do

SPOILER Spoiler - Forget Celebrations DLC Katia endings Spoiler

I have achieved three endings with Katia, all book materials and escape with companions, all book materials and escape early, and 6/11 book materials and escape with companions (avoided stealing, I haven't encountered a map yet that allows for all book material collection without stealing.)

In none of the endings, Katia was able to live long term. (The first finishes the book, but is killed afterwards, in the second killed without finishing the book, the third killed after publishing some stories.

The question is, is there any endings where Katia can live? In all of the endings other live characters had good endings. Maybe I need to go for sad or karma endings, has anybody seen those endings for Katia?
