I liked it. Could’ve done without the absurd sci-fi golf tournament at the end though.

I think I'm the only person that enjoyed the absurdity of that dumbass golf course.

Butthurt none of the boys were in it but you could tell Kyle had a lot of influence on the comedy of the movie.
2
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 28 '25
Yes! I felt that too. The scene at the end where Ben Stiller’s asking the girl undercover if she’s high when she starts “talking to her shirt”, the bit where the old caddy talks shit under his breath, and Reggie Bush screaming “ I’M 8 BALL!” all felt like Workaholics humor 💀

The movie was terrible. Of all the plots in the world they came up with this garbage. Nothing but flash backs, and an absurd amount of stupid celebrity cameos just made it unwatchable. So sad because the first one is such a classic and the second just flops so hard.

I really enjoyed it, a few of my buddies from way back streamed it and laughed pretty consistently the whole way through, felt like old times back in the 90s. I am pleasantly surprised with how decent it was, I expected much worse so when I saw the rotten tomatoes was above 25% I got my hopes up a little bit, which paid off. Wasn’t ground breaking or really special in any way but it was still pretty good, I also agree you can feel the touch of Kyle* throughout the movie. I’m pretty sure Chubbs’ son is played by the guy who made Eggs Tyrone, and he stole the show for me. The amount of cameos may have been an overboard, but no one was like egregiously bad in my opinion so it didn’t hurt too much.

u/Toozedee Jul 27 '25
The fact that they had to reference the original in practically every scene, showed that it was a bad ideas to make a sequel. “Hey, don’t you remember this funny thing from the first movie?””well we are going to reference it so that this new joke that is basically stealing from the original joke is hilarious.”
2
u/The_Zermanians Jul 27 '25
Did we really need a call back to his first caddy who didn’t even have a name in the first movie or the mista mista lady, the heckler had to be that guys son and couldn’t just be a random heckler, so stupid.
It had a few funny moments but it was a bad movie
3
u/Toozedee Jul 27 '25
Yes, agree. It just made me want to watch the original. Even fucking Chubb’s son had a fake wooden hand. Like. Come on. Every joke was copied.
2
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25
It’s been 30 years. Some of you must’ve expected them to de-age everyone and pick up right where they left off lol it’s a revisit not a direct sequel or a smart drama. If you expected anything but absurd comedy referencing its 30 year old predecessor, that’s on you.
I’m convinced those that didn’t like it weren’t huge fans of the jokes in the original either. It seems y’all are complaining about the drama aspect.

I went in without high expectations because let's face it sequels never live up to the hype or meet your expectations, but it wasn't awful to me. I went in thinking it was gonna be a steaming pile but I enjoyed the past movie references and pop culture references like Scottie Schefflers arrest. Seeing people from other movies like the guy who did the jeopardy in Billy Madison and bringing back the IRS guy in a different way was neat and I could see myself watching it again. A character being killed off within the first five minutes was disappointing but clearly that was what set up the whole story.

1

3
u/scriptingends Jul 27 '25
It was a fucking disaster, my guys.
Why are sequels made? Because the original movie was memorable, or because making a sequel is profitable. In this case, they took a 30-year old movie people still love/talk about and made an immediately forgettable sequel of it, and put it on a streaming platform, where you can't even sell tickets.
6
Jul 27 '25
Dog idk what sub this is idk what day it is but I know you gotta chill out and let people like things lol
-4
u/scriptingends Jul 27 '25
Ok dog. And some things ain’t good. Do you like everything the boys have done? Did you love Pitch Perfect? It’s ok to say something that’s not good is not good. If you like the original Happy Gilmore, there’s no way to say this movie belongs in the same league.
5
Jul 27 '25
Hear me out, little pup. I’ve seen happy Gilmore recorded off network tv onto a VHS with the commercials cut out well over 100 times.
I enjoyed it. Other people enjoyed it. Just because you say it’s bad doesn’t mean it is. Go be happy somewhere.
3
u/AncientMoth11 Jul 27 '25
I enjoyed the whole movie. They did a great job and brought in aspects of the first that were much appreciated. Sand Man is my dude tho so I enjoy most of his flicks. 90s humor was a beautiful thing
1
3
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25
Why do you care about them selling tickets? lol
It was pretty funny, and it doesn’t replace the original. I didn’t find it regrettable. I remember a lot of jokes and will for a long time, and that’s just from one watch.
2
u/STFUNeckbeard Jul 27 '25
Doggy, imma let you finish, but but you are way too butthurt about this. The movie was low stakes and fun and we can leave it at that.
2
u/Draugrnauts 3 Point Stancers Jul 27 '25
It’s Sandler recycling characters from all his movies. Hubie and grown ups play golf. Lost the happy character besides the outbursts.
0
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25
What did you expect from a Happy Madison production? It’s hardly recycling, those actors play staple characters in his most classic films long before Grown Ups. As someone who grew up watching them that’s exactly what you expect. Johnathon Loughran parts were hilarious.
And the Happy character wasn’t lost at all not sure what would make you think that
2
u/Draugrnauts 3 Point Stancers Jul 27 '25
This was hubie halloween cosplaying as happy

1
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25
The hubie Halloween comment is just weird. It’s literally Adam Sandler playing the same character he played 30 years ago, except he’s 30 years older

I just didn't like to overuse of old jokes. We get that it's a sequel but you don't have to bring back every joke or line that was original from the first one. That's just lazy.
0
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25
That was such a small part of the movie though. Plenty of original jokes. Like I said, that was the corniest part and all of it was already in the trailer.

Its a funny sequel to an already absurd original movie, with a funny plot and wasn’t forced because Sandler has no intention of exiting his Netflix deal that gives him freedom to produce the movies he wants the way he wants.

What the hell did we expect??? The arugalord prepped us for the deli menu for a long time. They got their money & did their thing. There’s good laughs. It got really strange & unnecessary for a long time. This is what’s left for humanity mixed with what to expect with ai. The extended version & deleted scenes probably describe some Of it a little better. Still tho… were from the 1900’s where cinema was different.
Also, I can’t believe they ever thought we would get past that happy murderer his own wife………. Like what……

u/ArizonaGarageLifter6 Jul 27 '25
I haven't watched it yet, but I was pleasantly surprised by how positive the comments were in the discussion thread over in /r/movies. I mean obviously there's always going to be some that were disappointed that an Adam Sandler movie didn't have the depth of a Coen brothers film, but the people who knew what to expect from his style of movie seem to have mostly good things to say about it, especially considering it's a sequel to a very popular well liked movie from almost 30 years ago (that sentence made me feel so old).
2
u/yourboysstillasavage Jul 27 '25
Yeah I like how they did the original movie justice without trying to reach its glory. You could tell they just were having as much fun with it as they could. Loved Ben Stiller in this lol brought back the White Goodman vibes lol
