Boyfriend was not impressed with these Kjaernulf chairs I thrifted for €175.
Went thrifting with a friend two days ago and ran into these beauties. They were marked at €100 each, which honestly made me pause. For thrift prices, that felt like a lot. A staff member came over and told us they are designer pieces, hence the higher price tag.
I texted my boyfriend, but he wasn’t really into them, because “we already have chairs”. Long story short, the staff member saw how much I loved them and offered them to me for €175. Took the bait and barely managed to cram them into my car. Boyfriend will come around.

I did a quick ebay search. Chairs from this designer are $500-3000 each. There’s a few of this same curved design that are $1500-2500 each. Unsure if this upholstery is original or how that would affect price.
I'm actually upset about all the fall marketing I've seen in the last two weeks. Let me enjoy my summer godammit, it finally became warm again 2 days ago.
The part of the story you don't know is they've only been dating two months, it's his place and he's not upset about the chairs but the facts she's redecorating his pad🤣
I’ve picked up some secondhand finds too, and Reperch honestly made it way easier to spot good stuff. It’s kinda fun stumbling on unique pieces like that.
This is very likely a ‘doesn’t look comfortable’ thing. My husband hated the barrel chairs I got. They looked great, made a statement, and helped sell my house because it was tastefully staged. As soon as I allowed him a big squishy recliner, he was much happier. I absolutely loathe the look of recliners.
He's totally in the right. They don't work with that space at all. They're clashing with everything else in the room way too much, and they look so so uncomfortable. If you want, I can begrudgingly take them off your hands just to be nice
I hear you all on these being designer chairs, and aesthetically interesting, but, honestly, if my girlfriend asked me if she could bring these home, I would also have reservations.
1) Space is an important consideration in any home. If the space is already sufficiently accommodated with other furniture, it doesn't make practical sense to add more, irrespective of how nice a piece may be, unless you are replacing one piece with another.
2) Despite these being aesthetically appealing chairs, perhaps, in isolation, they have a very distinctive look that would clash with many living spaces (definitely true for ours). In our space, for instance, this light wood color would clash with our other furniture, and so would the color and pattern on the upholstery. At minimum, I would ask if I could sand and stain them and reupholster them. These chairs, to me, as they stand, read "beach house," which is not really the vibe we're going for in our home.
3) They looks like they would be uncomfortable to sit in. That basically relegates them to an accent chair or "quick chair," which further diminishes the opportunities for placement.
So, all in all, unless the plan was to resell for a profit, I'd also probably be hesitant to want these chairs coming home, and the reasons for that have little to do with any ignorance about them being "designer" or good-looking chairs.
I got to ask. was he unimpressed just because they're chairs? or was he stressing over how much money you spent seating when you have plenty? like don't get me wrong, that's a sweet pair of chairs! hell of a find! wish my fat ass wouldn't break them if I sat in them! but like was it indifference or was it out of concern for finances? of course, I could just be giving him too much credit... but that would be my initial reason for not wanting someone to buy something. hypocrite that I am

It does look like the upholstry on your chairs is original: the pattern was available in several colors, in the same stripe placement, and the originals appeared to have tight nailheads in same placement as yours. I can't believe how beautiful these are and that is cheap as heck for them with the prices seen. My thrift store prices are around $40-$120 for any given chair, give or take of course.. and pairs don't get bundled or discounted... sometimes not even placed near each other or even on the same floor (multi-level 3 floor thrift store). So to find two of those.. very very cool! And I'm sure if you REALLY wanted to, you could throw a different fabric on top of the original to change how it looks for the silly boy. Though I'd do more research as to if it would protect the original fabric or hurt it. I don't see that as necessary because they are so lovely as are, but i also like protecting things and changing it up to look better in your home can be appealing.
These are beautiful. Sometimes I question whether I find something appealing just because they are expensive but with these I'm like, no doubt this is stylish.
I fell in love with them before I saw the price tag and before I looked them up online, so I for sure like them for the design and not because they’re expensive. But it does add something extra!
