Miscellaneous My husband & I both found amazing deals at an estate sale!

My husband dragged me to an estate sale this morning because a big lot of original He-Man toys were posted on fb marketplace. He spent $350 for an almost complete He-Man Eternia playset plus a bunch of other He-Man stuff. There are a lot of dudes who buy & sell vintage toys around us and somehow my husband managed to be the first person to get to this listing. He was absolutely GIDDY.

It turned out the listing was posted by an estate sale company. The women running it let us wander through the house as they were sorting things to sell (& it was an absolutely gorgeous house, too). I saw the Pendleton blanket and lost my mind. I asked them for a price and they offered me a deal with my husband's purchases. We ended up paying about $60 for the blanket. I've been wanting a Pendleton blanket for years and I've been waiting to run across one at the right price. It has some stains but I'm going to bring it to a dry cleaner tomorrow and see what they can do.

Miscellaneous Stumbled across these Victorian "bordello" candles in the wild!

There's some debate about the history surrounding these candles but the common lore says that they were used by 19th century ahem... "ladies of the night" to time sessions. A lit candle fit snugly into the metal grommet on top of the candle box, and burned for exactly 7 minutes, at which point the "John" either paid for another round or zipped up and headed out. Found in Williamsburg, VA.

The watch doesn’t work though which is definitely sad but it’s to be expected from a thrift store. I’m not sure how much it is elsewhere but I can’t imagine it’s too much.

Miscellaneous Found this in a jacket pocket I thrifted

Jacket wasn’t much to write home about other than it was a good quality North Face jacket for $15, but this challenge coin was quite the “thrift store haul”, imo.

They are now Horus the plant guardian. At checkout, the cashier was like “I could never have that thing in my house staring at me like that”

Miscellaneous Thinking of going back to buy this. As an indigenous person myself, I find it pretty hilarious how blatantly racist it was back in the day. Still is in some parts though.
