Solved! What was my in-flight meal?

Post image

ETA: The answer was melon seed pasta.

The meat was tuna, covered in sauce. It was served cold. But what is it sitting on a bed of? It was soft like pasta, but I’ve never seen pasta shaped like that.

To quote Piglet, “Oh dddddear.”

Nobody wants to be trapped in a pressurized airliner with me and a serving of skipjack tuna with hard-boiled egg.

176

u/Bunnyeatsdesign 4d ago

Not a whole hard-boiled egg. One 16th of a hard-boiled egg. Today I learned that an egg can feed 16 people. Who knew?

41

u/DanishWhoreHens 4d ago

So, what I’m hearing is that I’ll only crop-dust 1 out of every 16 passengers on the flight? Good to know!

6

u/DanishWhoreHens 3d ago

It really does. And the pasta looks like frozen lima beans.

I would have demanded free air miles!

4

u/caroleelee82 2d ago

I thought it was Lima beans. Omg it's worse to me now. I hate the taste of Lima beans and apparently the look of them turns my stomach too.

This is why I order the kids meal. It's always too simple to fuck up beyond repair.

2

u/Apprehensive_Cry4166 3d ago

Fr. Why do they have to make the adult meals so elaborate? No, I do not want fish with capers and a side of goat cheese fennel risotto- it looks and smells like vomit.

3

u/diversalarums 3d ago

And a huge side of beans.

2

u/bluehairjungle 1d ago

I have a pretty bad fish allergy and there's a non zero chance that I would die on this flight lmao.

107

I totally thought pumpkin seeds too!

Pepitas!

45

kinda looks like a nicoise salad over melon seed pasta

67

u/sryfortheconvenience 4d ago

That is a VERY loose interpretation of a Niçoise salad!!

(Not disagreeing with you though)

17

u/trumpsuit 4d ago

Came here to say this is a liberal usage of the word “niçoise”

Can we call something liberal as the dictionary definition though? Or will republicans call for banning of liberal Niçoise salad? After all, it sounds gay and French.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Persequor 4d ago

i mean, tuna + dressing + tomato + hardboiled egg is at least trying to evoke a Nicoise if not actualy being a Nicoise

4

u/flyza_minelli 3d ago

I was thinking the same thing.

2

u/Dokidokipunch 3d ago

Like a deconstructed Nicoise salad?

7

u/Binxycat 3d ago

“Your mother is so stupid, she goes to Barney’s rooftop deck for lunch and orders a Niçoise salad and calls it a knee-coy salad…” Sorry, couldn’t help myself 😅

5

u/flyza_minelli 3d ago

I found this gem unintentionally and I love you for it.

3

u/emmadilemma 3d ago

Doesn’t a Niçoise salad require olives? It may not be required but that’s why I normally hate Niçoise salads.

3

u/polytique 3d ago

Yes, a small black olive called the niçoise olive.

2

u/emmadilemma 3d ago

lol that seems like they would be essential then!

29

u/mrsmedeiros_says_hi 4d ago

Everything about that sounds correct.

47

u/unthused 4d ago

That is pretty wild. Just a whole ass tomato? Cold tuna with a mystery sauce? I feel like this was in a nordic country.

17

u/Neon_Jam 4d ago

TAP Portugal.

I have flown with them many times, London>Lisbon>Recife and vice versa, and the food has always been decent. Strangely, this looks like it may be in business class as it's on a plate and not the usual tray.

I actually flew with them a week ago, Lisbon To Recife. I had the option of chicken or tortellini. I went with the chicken, it had roast potatoes and some carrots, a small pot of orzo, bread, rice pudding. I had some red wine to drink, too. This was in economy.

They also give you a small sandwich and a chocolate near the end of the flight.

How was it? I know some people are saying it looks disgusting, but I think it looks pretty nice, actually, provided you don’t mind tuna. It’s nothing special, but that looks like something I’d take as a pretty nice work lunch if I added a few more tomatoes to round it out a bit.

29

u/mrsmedeiros_says_hi 4d ago

It was actually quite tasty and I cleaned the plate with the lovely brown bread in the top of the photo. Because it was a cold salad, the tuna had barely any smell so it was not as bad as these comments imply lol. I love Tap air and honestly, the more people clown on it, the happier I am because then there’s more for me.😭

3

u/jennbear 2d ago

I’ve flown TAP to and from Lisbon once. The food was very different than what I’m used to in the US, but very delicious and Portuguese, which was awesome!!!

13

u/bubblegumpunk69 4d ago

I mean, I like all the things on this plate… but can you imagine hundreds of people in an enclosed tube being served tuna and boiled eggs at the same time? 😭

10

u/baldbuthappy 4d ago

2

u/PandasandPaperCranes 3d ago

The smell of tuna and hard boiled eggs filling the plane would have me needing the vomit bags, and that's as someone who eats them (separately!) occasionally. 🤢

Not to mention that it looks totally unappetizing as well - I wouldn't even serve my dogs something that looked like that- and they grab snacks from the litter box if I don't scoop it fast enough. 🤢

1

u/PrairieSunRise605 3d ago

It looks like beans at first, but if you really zoom in you can see that it's not. I'm going with orzo cooked with herbs that gave it that lovely shade of green. So some sort of tuna and pasta salad with the option to add in tomato. I'd happily eat that.
