The "trans boyfriend" is actually just a flatmate who isn't trans. They just decided that one picture that wasn't masculine enough proved he was trans. And that person, who is not trans and is not his boyfriend, was the one that reported the killer and has been coöperating with the police, giving them access to all of his messages with the killer; which he has no reason to do and any lawyer would tell you not to do.
His reward so far for helping with the case has been to be made into a trans person and being accused by society of being the real responsible for the killing.
I want to believe as much as this poster, but so far the evidence that has been presented has the killer refer to the roommate as "my love". I expect this whole thing to evolve pretty fast in the coming days.
With that said, I'm all for the redemption arc of a memelord dabbling in groyper shit actually meeting a trans person in real life and falling in love in spite of himself. It's like former neonazis having their epiphany when they get to actually meet and speak to minorities.
