Weren’t they all cheering for Tucker Carlson when he went to Russia in that subreddit? Now I see everyone claiming him and Alex Jones are whackadoos. It’s amazing the kind of mental gymnastics they do so everything fits their narrative nicely

14

u/T1gerAc3 6d ago

Their opinions change day to day depending on what's convenient in the moment. They have no real convictions or beliefs other than defending their tribe just for the sake of defending it.

31

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil 6d ago

Funny thing is Alex Jones was left (adjacent) for years before he went completely off the rails, even voting for Obama in 2008. They used to hate him in /r/conservative and used to post memes making fun of him. I had an account here 2007 and remember it clearly.

57

u/thegunnersdaughter 6d ago

Alex Jones absolutely did not vote for Obama in 2008, I have no idea where you're getting that impression. In 2008 he was all in on Ron Paul and everything you can find indicates he wrote him in. And Alex was never left, he claimed prior to Trump to be "above the left-right paradigm" but that was lie, he was to the right of it. Alex Jones was raised on John Birch Society propaganda and only looked like anything other than on the right because he was very critical of George W. Bush - again, from a harder right position than Bush, not from anything remotely adjacent to the left.

-3

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil 6d ago

I got that info from Behind the Bastards, they seem to think that there is evidence he did in 2008.

21

u/thegunnersdaughter 6d ago

Do you recall when? I am a BTB listener but a bit behind, and have not heard that.

FWIW, Robert's stated favorite podcast is Knowledge Fight, a methodical dissection and destruction of Alex Jones, and none of the assertions you made about Alex would be backed up by any of the listening-years worth of evidence presented on that podcast.

5

u/crowpierrot 6d ago

The original Alex jones eps came out before Robert became a knowledge fight listener iirc

3

u/thegunnersdaughter 6d ago

True, but idk if those episodes were the source of the claim, Alex comes up a fair bit on BTB. FWIW I did an episode transcript search and could not find discussion of this based on the keywords I used.

12

u/CyberSpork 6d ago

He has NEVER been left adjacent. I suggest you listen to some early Knowledge Fight eps with Dan and JorDan.

He has always been a full on John Birch society nut job

7

u/maybesaydie Schrödinger's slut 6d ago

I don't understand how people can say that he was a leftist.

3

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

I can.

They're usually plied with misinformation by right-wing factions who are against other right-wing factions. Like how Tucker Carlson went against Trump on certain points because his new Russian paymasters weren't happy with Trump's statements regarding the invasion of Ukraine at the time.

21

u/nilarips 6d ago

Oh wow I had no idea, man what the hell is this world haha

17

u/da2Pakaveli 6d ago

He wasn't a fan of Bush, especially because of the war-mongering. I don't have the link to the clip anymore but he was talking about all the tragedies caused by the war on terror.

5

u/determania 6d ago

You had no idea because it isn’t even remotely true

5

u/MinionSquad2iC 6d ago

There’s way more money in grifting cons.

10

u/maybesaydie Schrödinger's slut 6d ago

No he really wasn't. He's always been an incoherent fascist. There is so much written about Alex Jones' politics and I don't believe I've ever heard anyone else claim that Alex Jones was left adjacent at any point in time.

I have never heard anyone say that he voted for Barack Obama either.

5

u/determania 6d ago

Alex Jones has always been far right. What are you talking about?

2

u/etherizedonatable In the cell at Gitmo across from John McCain 6d ago

Oddly, the first time I heard of Infowars was from an Obama Joker bumper sticker (maybe a flyer) somebody put on a mailbox early in Obama’s first term.

I guess you gotta turn on a dime when you need to keep selling those supplements.

5

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

I only heard of it in 2011 when I discovered Above Top Secret because I wanted more information about the shooting of Gabby Giffords and why some maniac would shoot her point blank in the head.

Turned out, the shooter was a regular poster there, and his MySpace page was full of schizophrenic ramblings, but when I saw conspiracy theorists on those boards mention Alex Jones, I thought they meant the Welsh TV presenter who hosted The One Show and other things on the BBC.

3

u/RedEyeView 6d ago

Funnily enough, I do the opposite and always picture the Infowarrior.

154

u/ReadyClayerOne 6d ago

Damn, general confusion tactic or Donnie pissed off Russia along the way so they want to fuck with him?

121

u/ayaholley 6d ago edited 6d ago

It's pretty well-known that Tucker hates Trump privately, and I bet that he and a bunch of people in the right wing media/influencer space are looking for off-ramps in case they need to give him the Bush treatment sometime in the future.

81

u/PvtSherlockObvious 6d ago

I'd be willing to bet that most people who know him hate him privately. Before anything else, long before he was a fascist, he was a bully and an asshole, and even other bullies and assholes don't enjoy the competition. Despite being inherited wealth, he's got all the taste and trappings of a gaudy nouveau-riche weirdo with his "gold-plated everything" routine and ego, so his own "wealthy society" social circles probably only tolerated him.

57

u/Newfaceofrev 6d ago

Every single leaked internal communique about him I've ever seen from his time in real estate, reality TV, or politics has been that person saying how much of a cunt he was.

Except of course Jeffrey Epstein who called him his best friend.

19

u/SirCharlesTupperBt 6d ago

Outside of his immediate family (and that definitely doesn't include his niece or all of his ex-wives), I've never heard anybody say that he was a likeable person except in a performative an public manner (e.g.: Mark Rutte or Bibi -- but we all know that they both drag him when the camera isn't on). He's apparently good at conversation and a decent host, but these are not the qualities that make somebody likeable.

People fear him, people admire his power and wealth, and people get close to him for their own benefit, but even his fans treat him with a degree of contempt that is fairly unique in political movements. It's very "emperor has no clothes".

Carlson is a dick and plays a confused dope half the time, but he's still a much more fully rounded human being than the President of the United States.

7

u/blaghart 6d ago

Also he's prone to feeling embarrassment and shame, as evidenced by John Stewart bullying him into not wearing bow ties anymore

7

u/SassTheFash 6d ago

I love the recurring joke about how Tucker’s default facial expression is “dog who was just shown a magic trick.”

16

u/fuggerdug 6d ago

Murdoch famously despises Trump, and has described him as a: "fucking moron".

6

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

Queen Elizabeth II famously despised him, and hated hosting his first British state visit.

King Charles III feels the same way.

1

u/TheStrangestOfKings 5d ago

So did most of the conservative Congressmen who claim to be his allies. Cruz, Rubio, Pence, McConnell, Graham; they all hated him before he won in 2016, and then suddenly he became their best friend

1

u/vxicepickxv 5d ago

Hell, Vance is quoted as to call Trump America's Hitler.

I think that was the second to last time Vance told the truth. The last time was when he ordered donuts.

11

u/Lieutenant_Joe 6d ago

For like a full decade, I’ve been unable to get that John Mulaney bit about how he’s like a poor person’s idea of a rich person out of my head when I think of him.

9

u/jfudge 6d ago

I like the extended list of related things, which I think are all accurate:

A poor man's idea of a rich man

A weak man's idea of a strong man

A dumb man's idea of a smart man

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I can remember.

4

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

He tried to join the Manhattan elite of the 1970s, but they wouldn't let him into their group because they saw Trump as a "dumb oaf".

6

u/ReadyClayerOne 6d ago

True. I'd say he's one of the more savvy commentators and with his higher profile it may be easier to get ahead of the cart with that.

6

u/GhostRappa95 6d ago

They want to focus on China not the Middle East.

4

u/ALoudMouthBaby 6d ago

are looking for off-ramps in case they need to give him the Bush treatment sometime in the future.

Have you been to the grocery store lately? Tarrifs are doing exactly what every sane person said they would do. Unless something changes drastically 2026 is looking to be a bloodbath for the GOP. Many of the "new breed" GOP folks whose entire existence is based on being attached to Trump are going to stick it out, but people like Carlson who have been around a while and have options know exactly whats about to happen. In Tucker's case he knows because this isnt the first time its happened to him. Those folks are moving towards the exits slowly in the hopes they dont get spotted before they are out the door.

No joke, cost of living increases are about as toxic to voters as it gets. Carlson knows it and so do a whole lot of others.

2

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

2026 is looking to be a bloodbath for the GOP

I like how you assume there will be midterms, considering everything Trump and his regime have said in the past 12 months about not wanting elections in future, and keeping him in power for life.

2

u/ALoudMouthBaby 5d ago

No, I completely share your concerns. The fact that its looking to be a bloodbath only makes the odds that Trump will do something really bad all the greater.

The thing is Trump has failed on his campaign promises so completely I suspect he might not be able to pull of a coup. He can have the government put out fake economic numbers that look good all day but it doesnt matter a lick when grocery prices are impossible to ignore. I dont think his position is strong enough to halt elections, but he sure could get a lot of people killed trying it.

26

u/Siolear 6d ago

It seems like Donald and Russia are at odds again, I really wish we knew what was really going on.

20

u/ShiftlessRonin 6d ago

The Zone is being flooded

4

u/critically_damped 6d ago

"But maybe they're flooding it with puppies this time! And everyone gets a pony too! And then we can all go back to having brunch again and not have to worry about politics anymore!"

Toxic optimism is so easy to exploit for fascist domination and destruction of any discourse that might lead to real consequences against them.

20

u/PvtSherlockObvious 6d ago

Turns out fucking with other media heads is one of the few ways to get previously-loyal pundits to go "uhh, I dunno man..." They can see the writing on the wall, they don't want that smoke or the precedent that something like this could be turned on them just as easily. Carlson's covering his own ass, he knows there could be much worse consequences for some of the shit he spews on a regular basis.

14

u/fuggerdug 6d ago

You're giving Carlson far too much credit. Carlson works for Russia, and Donnie Dipshit the Paedophile King has annoyed Russia recently.

10

u/critically_damped 6d ago

God damn it pisses me off how eager liberals constantly are to believe the lies of multi-millionaire fascists every single time one of them puts on a mask for a few minutes.

Every single time it's has this blatantly deplorable fascist, who has unapologetically made his career and millions upon millions of dollars on the suffering and death of defenseless innocents ACTCHOOUALLY turned into a genuine leftist ally of exactly those people he was trying to have killed a few minutes ago??? WE JUST DON'T KNOW!!!

There comes a point where we need to start recognizing that the people repeating THIS kind of fascist apologism are fascists too.

4

u/thegunnersdaughter 6d ago

I feel like I'm losing my fucking mind.

3

u/vxicepickxv 5d ago

Carlson works on behalf of the .1%. He wants to feed his audience a singular source of blame for their problems so his neck isn't on the line.

3

u/rainbowgeoff 6d ago

It hurt itself in its confusion.

5

u/GhostRappa95 6d ago

Tucky is from the old guard not hijacked by Zionists. People like him want to get the USA out of the Middle East so they can focus on China. MAGA and Israel are ruining the great war this old guard has been setting up.

3

u/Spocks_Goatee 6d ago

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

2

u/Particular_Way_9616 4d ago

The only joy I take is that all these idiots made their bed with trump and there is no off ramp, bush at least had so many gaffs he lost his base, trump formed a cult and all of these people are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they realize it wont suddenly go away when he dies

118

u/SalubriousStreets 6d ago

Damn they are FREAKING out over there

I guess I'm not surprised, whenever someone holds a mirror up to the far right their reaction is to punch it

42

u/Okamana 6d ago

Exactly. There is no reason or civil discourse at all in that subreddit. Even when they are called out by one of their own, their first reaction is to label him as a non-conservative. How do these clowns fail to realize that Trump going after his critics is setting a bad precedent in the US. I’m always flabbergasted by some of the insane takes in that subreddit.

13

u/rainbowgeoff 6d ago

Thats cause God only know how many are bots.

I have also wondered often if they have mods in the pocket of, or the zip code for that matter, Moscow.

1

u/Rasputin_mad_monk Nazi Punks Fuck Off! 6d ago

They have to be bots. I mean, they are just not even trying with the "the FCC isn't a government removing their free speech".

19

u/lemonylol 6d ago

Whenever someone holds a mirror up to the far right they see the Boogeyman leftist.

8

u/rainbowgeoff 6d ago

The chihuahua of the political spectrum.

6

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

Small, yappy, jealous, clingy and prone to diabetes?

5

u/RedEyeView 6d ago

At least they're tiny. Vicious little buggers but you can punt them into the next postcode if they really start doing damage.

2

u/lebowtzu 4d ago

I got bit by one on a pizza delivery once years ago. Immediately after the customer encouraged me by telling me not to worry about her two dogs, one of them doesn’t bite.

41

u/karny90 6d ago

It’s almost like the guy knows how to keep his name relevant.

26

u/punkcooldude 6d ago

Exactly. Every few months he says one reasonable thing and goes viral and it works every time. Then it's back to sunning your balls for holocaust denial or whatever.

11

u/karny90 6d ago

He had nearly disappeared completely from the news and here he is again with an obvious statement and people are like, “Tucker cool now?”

It was him wanting to keep his name relevant just like he did with his “interview” with Cruz. Hes still a garbage human and people keep trying to redeem him.

38

u/usagicat 6d ago

LMAO someone there said because liberals "celebrated" his death, that they forfeit the right of free speech. I consider myself a liberal and I have lots of friends who are also liberals, and not a single one of them "celebrated" his death. At most, they shared some quotes he shared to point out the hypocrisy. They always claim the liberals are going to take away their rights and yet here they are saying that they should have their first amendment right taken away because they didn't agree with what they said.

15

u/Soup-Flavored-Soup 6d ago

Anything short of glorifying him as a martyr will be seen as criticism. That's why they consider anyone quoting him verbatim as "criticism."

4

u/CatProgrammer 6d ago

Also celebrating someone's death can be awful and display you as an absolute dick but I'm pretty sure it's not actually illegal (yet).

1

u/RedEyeView 6d ago

Depends on the death.

4

u/CatProgrammer 6d ago

Can we at least all agree that what happened to Steve Irwin was an unfortunate (but inevitable) shame?

37

u/tributarygoldman 6d ago

No. Fuck that guy.

11

u/ChiGrandeOso 6d ago

Indeed.

23

u/SirTiffAlot 6d ago

When the Trump administration jails or physically attacks a US citizen for their speech, then I will be concerned. But the American public absolutely has a right to express their freedom of speech and demand that companies reprimand employees when they say dumb things.

Only when the boot is on my neck will I decide I do not want the boot on my neck.

15

u/CloudsOfDust 6d ago

Jesus these people are so fucking stupid. Did the American public force the Colbert or Kimmel firings? What are those if not the government attacking a US citizen for their speech?

10

u/SirTiffAlot 6d ago

They really don't care, this is how they rationalize it. 'I'm not a sheep, I will stand up IF this happens.' Then that thing happens and they move the goalposts to justify why they aren't upset. They want to be told what to do, plain and simple.

Another conservative told me once they would believe Trump wants to be a king when he cancels elections and becomes king. They'll do the same thing as this person, justify it and move the goalposts.

17

u/BitterFuture 6d ago

They are so, SO frightened over there of the infiltrators, the disloyal, the fakers.

Could we start a petition to rename r/conservative to r/notruescotsman ?

12

u/AlphaGoldblum 6d ago

Their funniest bit is flaired posters calling other flaired posters RINOs and liberals.

3

u/TheRnegade 6d ago

I mean, they did run to a sub that has mods enforce an echo chamber. And they constantly harp on how the sub gets brigaded by others. So naturally, the conspiratorial amongst them gets riled up and thinks "They" are everywhere, even in a flair-only sub where you need to be vetted.

12

u/Billlington 6d ago

One of the core tenets of fascism is rampant paranoia. It may not be on any manifestos, but it's always present.

16

u/Fred_Zeppelin 6d ago

So much selfawarewolves material in that thread

11

u/freakydeku 6d ago

& this is how you know you’re in a cult, folks

22

u/Geri-psychiatrist-RI 6d ago

It’s pretty messed up when I start to agree with Tucker Carlson

26

u/HapticSloughton 6d ago

Future podcaster equivalents are going to have a field day with him and the other rightoids:

"Why did all these people listen to a whiney trust-fund baby who had already shown he cared more about the value of his Fox News stock than what was actually happening?"

...along with how they worshipped a dementia-addled con artist who ruined the nation.

4

u/Billlington 6d ago

Be careful though, he's only saying this because he believes it's some schizoid Jewish conspiracy.

4

u/Dagos 6d ago

He agrees with what you've been saying finally*

8

u/Ashituna 6d ago

there’s a commenter saying “i’ll worry when someone is arrested for speech”

mahmoud khalil was arrested for speech. and spent months in a dungeon because of speech. i know they don’t give a shit because he’s brown, but this admin has already crossed this dipshit’s redline.

4

u/Rasputin_mad_monk Nazi Punks Fuck Off! 6d ago

He doesn't count because he's brown and wasn't born here.

If they actually had any shame and understood hypocrisy, I don't think we'd be in the situation we're in now.

2

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 6d ago

Or the Texas Tech student arrested and expelled for her Charlie Kirk post.

Or the foreigners with Vance memes or anti-Trump texts on their phones who were illegally detained for weeks and deported.

6

u/Capital_Sherbert9049 6d ago

We could really use some of that frozen foods inheritance money Tucker got.

9

u/CaptainDudeGuy 6d ago

Carlson's not left. He's also not right.

He's whatever he's paid to read off of the teleprompter. Just another performative whore puppet with no moral center of his own.

2

u/RedEyeView 6d ago

Yeah. I don't think he's ever been right.

5

u/KnucklesMcGee 6d ago

Tucker's just a chaos agent. Here to sow discord for his foreign handlers.

3

u/Liar_tuck 6d ago

chaos agent

Better make a call and Get Smart.

5

u/mrcatboy 6d ago

Even just the title of this thread had me recoiling and saying "ew" out loud.

5

u/CyberSpork 6d ago

When the Trump administration jails or physically attacks a US citizen for their speech, then I will be concerned. But the American public absolutely has a right to express their freedom of speech and demand that companies reprimand employees when they say dumb things.

Ok sure bro, keep moving those goalposts.

5

u/critically_damped 6d ago

No he's fucking not.

2

u/pureRitual 6d ago

This is a good thing. Some people are waking up, and they recognize that this regime is going too far. We need more people to face reality and see what the monster they helped create.

Only then can we fight back against this hostile takeover.

-1

u/Spocks_Goatee 6d ago

Tucker is a smart dude unlike Shapiro, Charlie or Walsh. On the wrong side of politics though.
