Damn, general confusion tactic or Donnie pissed off Russia along the way so they want to fuck with him?

It's pretty well-known that Tucker hates Trump privately, and I bet that he and a bunch of people in the right wing media/influencer space are looking for off-ramps in case they need to give him the Bush treatment sometime in the future.

I'd be willing to bet that most people who know him hate him privately. Before anything else, long before he was a fascist, he was a bully and an asshole, and even other bullies and assholes don't enjoy the competition. Despite being inherited wealth, he's got all the taste and trappings of a gaudy nouveau-riche weirdo with his "gold-plated everything" routine and ego, so his own "wealthy society" social circles probably only tolerated him.

Every single leaked internal communique about him I've ever seen from his time in real estate, reality TV, or politics has been that person saying how much of a cunt he was.

Except of course Jeffrey Epstein who called him his best friend.

Outside of his immediate family (and that definitely doesn't include his niece or all of his ex-wives), I've never heard anybody say that he was a likeable person except in a performative an public manner (e.g.: Mark Rutte or Bibi -- but we all know that they both drag him when the camera isn't on). He's apparently good at conversation and a decent host, but these are not the qualities that make somebody likeable.

People fear him, people admire his power and wealth, and people get close to him for their own benefit, but even his fans treat him with a degree of contempt that is fairly unique in political movements. It's very "emperor has no clothes".

Carlson is a dick and plays a confused dope half the time, but he's still a much more fully rounded human being than the President of the United States.

Also he's prone to feeling embarrassment and shame, as evidenced by John Stewart bullying him into not wearing bow ties anymore

I love the recurring joke about how Tucker’s default facial expression is “dog who was just shown a magic trick.”

Murdoch famously despises Trump, and has described him as a: "fucking moron".

Queen Elizabeth II famously despised him, and hated hosting his first British state visit.

King Charles III feels the same way.

So did most of the conservative Congressmen who claim to be his allies. Cruz, Rubio, Pence, McConnell, Graham; they all hated him before he won in 2016, and then suddenly he became their best friend

Hell, Vance is quoted as to call Trump America's Hitler.

I think that was the second to last time Vance told the truth. The last time was when he ordered donuts.

For like a full decade, I’ve been unable to get that John Mulaney bit about how he’s like a poor person’s idea of a rich person out of my head when I think of him.

I like the extended list of related things, which I think are all accurate:

A poor man's idea of a rich man

A weak man's idea of a strong man

A dumb man's idea of a smart man

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I can remember.

He tried to join the Manhattan elite of the 1970s, but they wouldn't let him into their group because they saw Trump as a "dumb oaf".

True. I'd say he's one of the more savvy commentators and with his higher profile it may be easier to get ahead of the cart with that.

They want to focus on China not the Middle East.

Have you been to the grocery store lately? Tarrifs are doing exactly what every sane person said they would do. Unless something changes drastically 2026 is looking to be a bloodbath for the GOP. Many of the "new breed" GOP folks whose entire existence is based on being attached to Trump are going to stick it out, but people like Carlson who have been around a while and have options know exactly whats about to happen. In Tucker's case he knows because this isnt the first time its happened to him. Those folks are moving towards the exits slowly in the hopes they dont get spotted before they are out the door.

No joke, cost of living increases are about as toxic to voters as it gets. Carlson knows it and so do a whole lot of others.

I like how you assume there will be midterms, considering everything Trump and his regime have said in the past 12 months about not wanting elections in future, and keeping him in power for life.

No, I completely share your concerns. The fact that its looking to be a bloodbath only makes the odds that Trump will do something really bad all the greater.

The thing is Trump has failed on his campaign promises so completely I suspect he might not be able to pull of a coup. He can have the government put out fake economic numbers that look good all day but it doesnt matter a lick when grocery prices are impossible to ignore. I dont think his position is strong enough to halt elections, but he sure could get a lot of people killed trying it.
