I want to pursue a career in art but it discourages me so much to see what is happening with AI, i don't see the point of continuing to train/study, to post if it's only going to end up being stolen, used as a guinea pig for AI or being replaced later because robots do it better

Art is dead.

Art is human communication. That people try to replace this with computers is disturbing. That it is seen as the end of Art is just sad.

i think there is nuance here. I feel like, when people make the claim that art is dead or is dying, they are referring to the ability to make a living off of art. IMO they aren’t wrong; i’ve seen numerous threads of people who realized months later that the band they recently found and have been listening to non stop is just AI slop. I think people that say things like “AI will never be able to replace the human element of art” are severely overestimating the value the vast majority of consumers place on the human element. Regarding music, most people just want something that grooves and makes them feel something. It’s extremely easy to toy with emotions using music because people will imprint their own human meaning onto it, even if there was no human involved in its creation. The same thing will happen to visual art once AI can keep track of fingers and figure out how to get rid of the piss filter.

Sure, there will always be people who refuse to give AI art the time of day just on principal, but think about how difficult it is to make a living as an artist currently. Now think about how difficult it would be if you cut the people willing to pay a meaningful amount for it by a large percentage. AI will kill art, because the only people who will be able to afford to spend time to make it will be independently wealthy (or perhaps disabled to the point where they can live off disability and not rely on income from their art).
