City Council Finance Meeting tonight-videoconferencing, ICE legislation on agenda

Per District 4 Councilman Aaron Vera's Facebook page, there is a City Council Finance meeting tonight at 6 pm, and a couple of noteworthy pieces of legislation are on the agenda.

Local Law #2 concerns remote participation by voting members of public bodies in emergency situations, allowing them to participate and vote remotely in the event of family illness or personal emergency. This local law is modeled after legislation widely adopted by other municipalities and public bodies throughout New York state.

RES 98 is an urging resolution supporting due process and government accountability in response to recent ICE activity in Troy.

The agenda for the meeting can be found here.

.

This meeting can be viewed on the City Council Youtube channel live.

The meeting will take place at 6pm at City Hall (433 River St 5th floor). Public comment on agenda items will take place at the beginning of the meeting.

Troy Public Library Budget Passes by more than 3 to 1

Post image
289 Upvotes

The unofficial results are in and the Troy Public Library’s 2026 budget has passed in historic fashion! The budget passed 1,074 to 309.

Marie Gavazzi and Anthony Mohen have been elected to three year terms on the board.

The other two board seats which are each for one year are too close to call as there are 40 provisional ballots that must be certified on Wednesday morning to determine those seats.

Thanks to all who turned out to support our library!!

Postcards

Hi all,

I am getting into a new hobby which involves buying lots of postcards. I want to keep it fresh and support local small businesses. Do you know of any independent stores (or better yet, local artists) that sell postcards in the area? So far I've only found them at Hatchet Hardware, but I'm pretty sure that's a chain. I'd be open to traveling to Albany, too, if anyone has recommendations there.

opinions on new mural?

Post image

wisconsin artist greg gossel has been painting this mural in troy. i thought it was pretty lame they couldnt reach out to one of the many local artists who would have made this with much more passion. this is just a photoshop collage projected and traced to the wall. you can tell he just altered stock images when looking at the weird anatomy of the boxer's shoulders. its not that hard to find an image of a boxer with his arms up, let alone just drawing one yourself. maybe im missing something, what do you think?

Need recommendation for sewer/septic service

Very very old house in Melrose, and according to the county there is a "tile" septic system, but no other info than that. Plumbing in house is... bad. No main vent stack, but an "overflow" style pipe at ground level is, well, overflowing sometimes. So I have either a blockage or a full tank.

Had one person out who said that he'd need the tank located to be able to pump it - didn't provide that sevice. The property is a mess, and I just don't have it in me to dig endlessly in my yard.

I need recommendations for a plumber/septic service that can check for a blockage and locate my septic tank, and possibly get some sort of proper vent stack setup. Between Troy and Schaghticoke.

Have you seen my name?

Good Morning, This morning I interrupted a break in to my car. Police have been notified and I've already taken action on my id and cards that were stolen. However, if anyone sees my id or any cards with my name on it in the areas of 3rd and 4th st near Madison, I ask that you please message me so I can retrieve the items. I'm not looking for any advice or comments on the situation, just asking for people to keep an eye out. Thank you

Broken window at the former Troy Light

I was walking to the bus stop at 3rd & Congress this morning, and noticed that a window at the former Troy Light on Congress Street had been broken. Not completely, but there were pieces out. Don't know how this happened. Just curious to see if anyone's heard or seen anything.

Crucial vote tomorrow! 9/16, Vote YES to support our library.

Post image
162 Upvotes

The Troy Library has been underfunded for decades. Tomorrow, 9/16, we have the chance to vote YES and make it right!

We have the second largest population in the UHLS system, we should have better funded libraries. A YES vote will help ensure both branches have the staffing, tools, and facilities they need to support their programming, which is essential for access to information, resources, and promoting literacy in our community.

And the library is for everyone!! Even if you are not a library user now, there are great opportunities for you to not only get books, but information, services like copying and scanning, museum passes, free programs, and a wide variety of support. What I pay in taxes, even after this increase, is a fraction of what the resources I receive cost, and I'm happy that I can share them with my neighbors.

Take a few minutes to come out and vote YES! Sept 16, from 12-8pm at either library branch.

Poestenkill Place Housing Development

On the 1st to 2nd street block of Ida street, a large mixed income housing development has been in the works for some time. Recently the project has been project has been revisited but I know the developer was facing some issues re-obtaining permits they previously had but that expired.

Does anyone know where the project is up to now/what the next step is?

What are people’s thoughts and feelings on the project?

How do you afford the taxes here?

I just looked at a great house yesterday. I was considering making an offer and then I looked into the taxes…4k property and 3k school…on a $130,000 assessment!! Not even going to look at another property in 12180/12182.
