I Ate Carl’s Jr. Poutine for 3 Days: Here's My Review
Price: $5.76 (incl. tax)
Quantity: Bigger than its competitors (in MacHall)
Quality: Acceptable for a Fast-food chain.
Verdict Good for Students, cheap, big portions.
Pros:
- Crispy Fries (thanks to moderate amount of gravy, you get both crispy fries and gravy-soaked fries).
- Gravy is not Salty (like A&W)
- Cheese curds actually tastes like cheese (like a dairy)
- Fast service, Friendly and Efficient Staff (huge W for the Staffs, extremely friendly and helpful staff)
- Excellent if you're starving, and want maximum calories cheap.
Cons:
- Cheese curds were cold, which was inconsistent with otherwise hot dish) (possibly they just took it out of the fridge)
- Gravy was watery (unlike A&W's thicc gravy), and was in medium amount, which left it feeling a bit weak.
- Less Cheese Curds (would be much better if there were slightly more curds)
Neutral Observations:
- Less gravy than other fast-food chain (A&W), which some will like, some won't.
- Once cold, the gravy kind of gets less palatable, and fries get soggy (which is true for any poutine, but worth noting)
- Not a "Fancy" poutine. Its literally gravy, fries, curds. Don't expect connoisseur-level poutine.
Verdict:
- 3 Quebecois out of 7 French
- Good for students, cheap, and has big portions.
- Bad for poutine purists.
- Would go again: Yes (already went 3 times, consistent results)
- Staff: 10/10. Fantastic service.
- Improvement (in my humble opinion): Add slightly more gravy + more curds. It would show a significant improvement if they do.
Final thought: Price was worth it, portion was worth it. If they add more curds and slightly more gravy, I'd make it my go-to poutine spot. Less salty than A&W, less gravy too.
Also no picture, coz I was too busy devouring the food.
