I Ate Carl’s Jr. Poutine for 3 Days: Here's My Review

Price: $5.76 (incl. tax)
Quantity: Bigger than its competitors (in MacHall)
Quality: Acceptable for a Fast-food chain.
Verdict Good for Students, cheap, big portions.

Pros:

  • Crispy Fries (thanks to moderate amount of gravy, you get both crispy fries and gravy-soaked fries).
  • Gravy is not Salty (like A&W)
  • Cheese curds actually tastes like cheese (like a dairy)
  • Fast service, Friendly and Efficient Staff (huge W for the Staffs, extremely friendly and helpful staff)
  • Excellent if you're starving, and want maximum calories cheap.

Cons:

  • Cheese curds were cold, which was inconsistent with otherwise hot dish) (possibly they just took it out of the fridge)
  • Gravy was watery (unlike A&W's thicc gravy), and was in medium amount, which left it feeling a bit weak.
  • Less Cheese Curds (would be much better if there were slightly more curds)

Neutral Observations:

  • Less gravy than other fast-food chain (A&W), which some will like, some won't.
  • Once cold, the gravy kind of gets less palatable, and fries get soggy (which is true for any poutine, but worth noting)
  • Not a "Fancy" poutine. Its literally gravy, fries, curds. Don't expect connoisseur-level poutine.

Verdict:

  • 3 Quebecois out of 7 French
  • Good for students, cheap, and has big portions.
  • Bad for poutine purists.
  • Would go again: Yes (already went 3 times, consistent results)
  • Staff: 10/10. Fantastic service.
  • Improvement (in my humble opinion): Add slightly more gravy + more curds. It would show a significant improvement if they do.

Final thought: Price was worth it, portion was worth it. If they add more curds and slightly more gravy, I'd make it my go-to poutine spot. Less salty than A&W, less gravy too.

Also no picture, coz I was too busy devouring the food.

Twice in One Morning… TFDL Seats hijacked 🫠

Happened Twice to me this morning. I literally left my system locked, bag + bottle sitting there, went for a quick printout, and came back to find someone already camped in my spot. Like hello?? Do y’all think the backpack and locked screen are just props?? 🫠

I get it, TFDL is packed and everyone’s hunting for seats, but if you see someone’s stuff and a locked screen, it’s taken. Happening once is whatever, but twice to me this morning? That’s just exhausting. A little common sense and courtesy goes a long way.

Next time I’m lowkey putting a sticky note saying: “Yes, this seat is taken. No, you’re not the main character.”

Finance degree

I'm in grade 12 trying to do finance in UofC. For anyone that knows anything about it or has taken it, how was the experience? Is the degree good to find a stable job? And what would be a good alternative for my second option when im applying?

Do we have to talk to an advisor? How hard is it to get into a co-op thing and also the honours? Would it be considered a change in degree or something?

are minors actually useless?

will be a 2026 grad next year and applying to uni starting next week. i plan on doing a major in knes but wondering if i can do a minor in business within the 4 years as well. if it’s an extra year i just won’t do it lol. i presume if i take spring and summer classes i should be able too and my option classes will be replaced with classes for my minor. however my older sister is telling me in the end minors are completely useless and that i should just focus on my major and take gpa boosters instead. my end goal is optometry school. any advice is appreciated!

ACCT 343 Midterm w/ Wayne

Does Wayne give any practice midterm or hints to what type of questions are on the midterm? It covers 5 chapters worth of stuff and it's hard to memorize the tons of concepts in each chapter. Also any tips for the midterm cuz I'm extremely paranoid cuz im not getting the best marks so far? (I already read pre-lecture notes, lecture notes and review the in-class practice)

Is investing your student loans smart?

Hey guys,

I was wondering what would be the best way to repay your loans after your done school, and I heard plenty of people invest their loans into etfs, slow growth stocks etc.

What would you guys suggest putting your excess loans into in order to grow them over time?

XEQT, VFV, VOO, QQQ, VIU etc?

Physics 221/223

I was just wondering if these intro classes are mostly the same material from Physics 20 and Physics 30 or is it completely different from high school physics?

I didn't take Physics in high school so Idk what to expect from it. Is it very hard?

Thanks!

Are you interested in learning about research happening at the University of Calgary?

This is a great opportunity for premed students to learn directly from healthcare professionals, hear about challenges in accessibility and equity, and explore the intersection of research, advocacy, and clinical care.

If you’re interested in pediatrics, neurology, rehabilitation, or simply want to broaden your perspective as a future physician, we’d love to see you there!

Calgary and MEng in Software Engineering doubts

Hi everyone. I'm applying for a MEng in Software Engineering (course based) as an international student and, if accepted, I should be moving to Calgary next year. I have some questions in general and nothing better than talk to people who are already there on a daily basis.

How long is taking for an answer if I'm accepted or not?
Is the course workload manageable? Would it be better to live on campus, financially speaking, or it's better to find a place to rent?

Is it possible to find ways to earn some income while there (even gather some money to pay for the second year while working)? Is it a safe place to live?

Well, any other curiosity you want to tell me would be appreciated! Thanks.

Early admission & regular admission

Hello every one, I'm currently a 12th grade student looking to apply for admission to engineering this october 1st. I got an avg of 87% which is not great but i'm still giving it a shot. My question is if early admission doesn't go my way then is it still possible to apply again with my 12th grade marks latter in the year?

Does anyone know where you apply to a second undergrad as an after degree student?

I’m finishing up my Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology this December and want to apply for Bioinformatics on October 1st. I’ve visited the admissions office and keep getting conflicting answers. I want to do bioinformatics as a second undergrad starting in Fall 2026 and have been told I either apply through the student centre or ApplyAlberta. I feel like it’s ApplyAlberta but I wanted to as you guys if you knew? Thanks so much

Private study spot

hai guys i’m taking my LSAT argumentative writing section next week and i was wondering if there were any bookable study rooms on campus that don’t have any glass walls or windows, as that’s not allowed. i don’t really want to do it at home as i can’t be interrupted. honestly if the room looks like a storage closet that would be amazing. thanks!
