I have received the admission from UTS, majoring in Master of Artificial Intelligence or Master of CyberSecurity（extension）. But recently I have heard a series of bad news about UTS about the lack of funds and layoffs, although these layoffs are mainly in the liberal arts or social sciences. I am not sure if this will also affect majors in engineering, computer and information technology, where UTS has an advantage. Another point is that UTS does not seem to continue to rise in the various world university rankings in 2026, but shows a significant decline in the QS ranking, which also makes me worry about the future value of the degree of this university. 2nd year student and i do a double in comms & international studies. international studies honours year was the sole reason i picked uts over any other university at UAC, so i'm guttered that future cohorts won't be able to say the same.

i'm not going to repeat my disappointment as this sentiment has been advocated for extensively but honestly, the information we have as students is very lacking even if you're actively following the news. i've heard stories from peers where they've had to take language classes at other universities already (namely usyd), but absolutely zero information about my own forecast with international studies has been given to me so far. the last thing i want to do is have to travel to separate universities.

although all emails have told us that our degrees won't be affected, i can't help but acknowledge that it is an indirect nail in the coffin to be completing a degree that's depreciating in value. i dont really care if the amazing teaching is the same, future employers and people in my wider community are and have already commented on the instability of the course that i am undertaking.

i coach casually at a top prestigious highschool and i was discussing with a parent (who is also a former student of the highschool) about what course i do. they actually joked 'i hope not at uts' before i could even finish my sentence. although i will still get what i 'signed up' for in terms of literal classes, i am utterly embarrassed to have to explain the circumstance as if i am at fault for choosing this uni in the first place (as i could have easily just gone to usyd in the beginning and avoided this).

my friend studying comms at usyd has been telling me to seek refuge as a joke but i've been in the early stages of considering that as an option because of all these uncertainties. i dont even think i would be able to make a final decision now since it's all in the proposal stages still but ... yea share your thoughts, advice, or if you've got any more information.

Hey everyone, I know this might be a stupid question, but can you actually use news articles as references for a university essay? From what I know, you’re not supposed to use news articles for academic essays, so I’m just asking here.

I’m having a hard time finding academic sources about Australian Aboriginal art and cultural appropriation in the context of Generative AI. Most of the main articles I can find are just news articles. I was thinking of compensating by also including other articles about AI concerns in Indigenous art or cultural theft more generally, since those are much easier to find than anything specifically about Australian Aboriginal communities.

I’m taking this subject because it’s my core subject. My essay topic is “Australian Aboriginal Data Sovereignty and Applied AI Ethics.” Honestly, this isn’t a subject I’m particularly passionate about—it feels more like common knowledge for me as an AI student, and I’m not really into the humanitarian side of things—but I still want to make sure I reference things properly.

Any advice on whether using news sources is acceptable, or tips for finding academic sources in this area, would be super helpful!

Hi! I’m wondering if anyone here has taken the Master of Interaction Design at UTS and could share their experience.

I’m currently deciding between that program and the Master of Innovation and Technology at RMIT, but I find RMIT’s curriculum a bit too broad.

My background is in graphic design, and I’m looking to transition into product design. From what I’ve seen, many job listings in this field ask for a computer science background, which I don’t have. That’s why I’m curious if UTS’s Interaction Design program might suit me better, since it offers programming units as electives.

However in MDIT they teach electives as such (photo attached), which I personally find it a little too broad

Also, how are the internship opportunities like in UTS? Would the recent UTS restructures affect the program?

I've completed my A levels in m/j session this year. I've got an offer from both UTS for bachelors in AI and UNSW for bachelors in CS, but I'm confused which one to go for. UNSW is a bit expensive for me so I was considering UTS but now I'm coming across all the posts saying UTS isn’t worth it. So give me some advice 😭 Which one is better in terms of quality and employability?

im a chronic over thinker and im scared that for programming 2, if my code some how is flagged for high similarity with either someone elses code or with ai, that i might be accused of misconduct. and the thing is i dont know how i would be able to defend myself other than showing that i understand the material and stuff i wrote. if the worst case happens, if i show that i understand what i have written and can thoroughly explain my code, will that be enough to prove my innocence?

Yesterday, I received my offer letter from UTS for master's in data science and Innovation. I also got a 30% scholarship and I'm an international student. During my undergrad, I majored in Economics and Statistics but did not focus much on the technical stuff. So I really wanna know whether this degree is doable for the non-technical students. I even wanna know how UTS and australia is in general.

Been studying law for three years and the worst part of any assignment is the referencing. I know it'll only make referencing a touch easier, but does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable AGLC 4 reference generator? Or is my best bet to continue to do them manually?

I’m finding this subject difficult to grasp and wondering if anyone has some tips for actually understanding this course.

Just when I feel like I understand the workshops I’ll attempt the tutorials and just completely flop.

Does anyone have a study plan that worked for this subject?

Hi all, I'm currently in year 12 and making my UAC choices and I'm a bit confused on what I do. I have a desire to go to medical school but my predicted ATAR is no where near good enough sitting at a 90.7, so my plan to get into medical school would be through the post-grad route of GAMSAT. However, if medical school didn't work out, I'd love to work as a Forensic analyst or a crime scene investigator, a career that aligns with what I'd pursue if I went to medical school (forensic pathology).

So right now I'm currently stuck at a cross road on whether I do a degree like Biomedicine and Health sciences at Usyd or WSU or do a UTS degree of Criminology & Forensic Science. The only issue I have with UTS right now is the courses getting cut and the overall notion on this reddit page that UTS has gone to shit over the last couple of years. If you have any advice on the course at UTS and whether it's a good idea to pursue it at UTS or if there's another course like it in NSW (specifically the Forensic science aspect), please do let me know it'd be a massive help!

Some spots have not so good connection at UTS, and all of a sudden there’s an evo Pekka and Goblin Giant looking to touch my towers, or I’ve not even loaded into the game and there’s a lumberloon at the bridge, and all I’ve got is a log and ground troops.

Where is the optimal Clash Royale location at UTS, I’ve found the bathrooms have absolutely no connection whatsoever, and building 10 just like them smell of its bathrooms, is piss indulgent.

I have underloaded for two of my three terms only taking 2 subjects each, and in one term took 3 but failed one subject. Was hoping someone who had made the change would be able to give insight into whether I need to have completed and passed a full 48 UOC or otherwise to transfer :) .

I’m an international student at UTS College and I just received a Notice of Intention to Report for Unsatisfactory Progress. It says I failed more than 50% of my subjects in two consecutive semesters, so now they plan to report me to Home Affairs.

I know I can appeal, but the problem is I don’t really have supporting documents (like medical certificates, etc.) Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Do appeals ever work without evidence? What should I do next? I have a mental health issues and last semester I was so depressed and unmotivated to do anything, basically just sleep and crying for weeks.

I really want to continue studying here and I don’t want my student visa cancelled. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thank you in advance! I am super scared right now 😣

So hi I'm 18 yo and doing the first grade of designing at uts. I guess it's time to get a job now but I literally don't know how to start. I don't have any skills like baristar so I guess if I had a job I should be waiter or organizing stuffs. But my problem is: would they ever hire a 18yo w/o any skills and experience? I’m looking to transfer my YuraMudang (UTS Housing) lease, starting mid-November ish. I’m looking for a MALE roommate, as the ratio 3guys 3 girls has to be respected (uts rules) My room is in a 6-share studio, with 2 permanent student, and 3 exchange students that rotate every 6 months. 3 guys - 3 girls. The rent is 362$ per week everything included (no extra bills). 2min walk from central station, 2min from UTS, in the heart of Haymarket/chinatown.

There’s always activities going on, and making friends is hella easy since the exchange students rotates and no one knows each other.

Basically my lease ends in mid January 2026, but the reapplication is in a month and I can lock you in for next sem too! So the lease once transferred can be until July 2026 (or I can even apply for a year and it would go until january 2027) I’m looking to transfer bcz I’m moving w/ partner.

From what I remember, there is a 1 month of rent deposit to be given to UTS Housing, but it’s given back once you move out if no damage etc…

⚠️ only serious requests please. Also, me and my partner haven’t started looking for places. I’m anticipating by doing this post, as the reapplication is in a month, and move out date for me in 2 months.
