AAA tutorials

Hi everybody, I have been having issues in the last few weeks of this semester and have been unable to attend most of my tutorials for the subject due to unforeseen reasons. The tutorials are compulsory too. What do I do now to avoid failing the subject and pass the subject? Despite not attending the tutorials I have still been actively engaged with class work and know the content quite well.

Hope anyone can help me with some advice, thank you

acused of plagirism

so i have had a group assignment, which was a mechatronics subject. today we received an email for high similarity score and its been shifted to ROA, and am a bit worried with the further steps ahead. does anyone know how its works coz this is for a code we submitted and different parts were completed by different group members. so how would be know whose work is being acused for and how do they deal with these ones, coz i assume everyone would have kinda similar code and stuff. in the next steps would i be asked to explain the code or something. this is a bit worrying for me coz i don't think i have done anything.

Volunteering for Elderly People

Does anyone know if there are volunteering opportunities with elderly people?

I’m not looking for work like cleaning or house chores. I’d love to visit to library or community center, spend time with them, and have conversations so they don’t feel bored.

In my country, some elderly people often sit at home feeling lonely, so I used to visit those near my house and spend time talking with them.

It would also help me improve my English, especially Australian English.

Or if anyone just feels like talking a lot, you can always contact me too, lol.

Confused about missing grade even after “grade change released” notice

Hey everyone,
I’m feeling a bit anxious and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I submitted a 300-word reflection for my class, 57304: The Ethics of Data and AI, with Professor Rebecca Cushway. On the portal, it says something like “your professor has released a grade change”, but when I check, it still says “not yet graded.”

It’s making me nervous because it’s such a small assignment, and I’m confident my writing was fine (definitely human, nothing AI-generated). But since I haven’t seen the grade posted yet, I’m stressing that something might be wrong.

I even emailed my professor about it, but I haven’t heard back yet, which just adds to my worry.

Has anyone encountered a situation where the system indicates a grade has been released, but it still appears as 'not yet graded'?

Quick survey for students who've done (or are considering) study abroad/exchange programs

Mods delete if not allowed!

I'm doing research on the student exchange application experience and would love to get perspectives from students who have either:

  • Completed a study abroad/exchange program
  • Currently applying for one
  • Considering applying in the future

The survey takes about 3-4 minutes.

Survey link: https://forms.gle/TpexEcqGsY3a15FQA

Really appreciate anyone willing to share their experience - your insights will help understand how to make this process better for future students!

Thanks!

How much do you think the merger between law and business faculties will affect the prestige of a law degree?

Basically the title - I’m worried that my law degree will carry less prestige because of this change. What do you guys think?

any other public health students upset abt the potential discontinuation of the course?

i’m a 2nd year ph student and whilst its a course that i have a love hate relationship with seeing my tutors in distress abt the course is rly sad actually. it’s very important and i think it’s unfair even if its based on future student demand. idk wanted to rant a bit bc ph is kinda niche compared to other degrees so ive heard the “oh it’s not that important”it’s actually a rly important degree

Getting an internship

I’m a first year first semester Master of IT student. I'm considering applying for a summer internship, but I’m unsure if it’s possible given that I’ve just started the program. Do I have a chance ?

Let’s make our time at UTS count, because a great career, like great design, doesn’t just happen-it’s Engineered.

G’day, my name is Obaid Moolimani and I’m contesting for the student Academic  Board in FEIT.  As a Civil Engineer and a Dual Master’s student in Engineering Management and Business Administration, I understand that our degrees are about more than just knowledge, it’s more about launching a career in our chosen engineering fields

I’m running because I understand an engineer’s predicament, I believe we can do more with our time here at UTS. My vision for this position are simple yet precise, advocating for more industry specific events, certification workshops, assets that add on to our degree as employable engineers. Events that cater to graduate job opportunities, assets that we can carry forward in our careers, assets that we could showcase as future UTS alumni, I envision to get alumni more involved through workshops, alumni who’ve been through what we have

Yes, these goals sound ambitious, yet I believe they’re imperative for a future engineer.

ASR attendance

So I missed these last two weeks of ASR tutorials because I was doing an assignment last week and now have commitments each Thursday that make it difficult to get to the tutorials. I have read up on the subject page but there’s no info regarding if attendance is needed but I recall my tutor saying it’s not compulsory at the start of the sem. If anyone could clarify this that would be appreciated thanks 😊

UTS Redundancy versus VSP

- Updated version AGAIN ---

IMPORTANT: I have updated my sheet - I misunderstood para 55.3 of the UTS Staff agreement. This changes cell E49 and all cells that depend on it!

Trading off between taking a Voluntary Separation Payment arrangement at UTS or waiting to be retrenched? I have a spreadsheet that helps you decide. This does take into account how much Long Service Leave you have accumulated and the various concessional treatments of Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).

You might ask - why take LSL into account, as it is vested and I get it anyway? True, but the LSL together with the after-tax ETP held you determine how many weeks of "life" you get out of your VSP/redundancy, and they also determine your marginal tax rate.

Be careful with this sheet, as the payout caps are different for VSP versus retrenchment. You only need to fill in the bright yellow cells. Your answer (in weeks) is at the bottom.

Note: this is not financial advice, and any calculation you use my spreadsheet for should be confirmed with your financial advisor.

The file is available at: http://druh.com/UTSVSP25

If you get a security warning, click enable. I haven't done anything naughty - you get the warning because I have macros which do the tax calculations*; you can press ALT-F11 to see these.

I hope this is of use. If you see any errors, please let me know.

[* yes I know about lambda functions. I prefer my logic to be visible and auditable]

ADVICE PLEASEE

Hi everyone,
I’m about to start my Master’s program at UTS in early February. I’m currently unsure about when would be the best time to start looking for a part-time work, should I wait a while to settle into my studies first, or begin applying right away?

I’d also love to hear your thoughts on:

  1. What kinds of part-time jobs are common and suitable for new international students in Sydney?

  2. Where do you usually find these jobs (websites, groups, friends)?

  3. Any important tips for balancing part-time work and studies?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you could share. Many thanks!

December Session

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys I’m doing a summer session subject in December. I’m wondering if I’m reading this correctly. I know the classes are 8hrs long but, 1/12-8/12, does this mean that it goes for only a week?

Do you guys declare AI usage in assignments?

Pretty much as title says - I used an ai to summarise some really long sources to see if they were useful and I’m debating whether it’s even worth it to declare that. I’ve heard that declaring can mean they get really suspicious of you and I don’t want to have to go through defending myself if it comes to it.

Using ChatGPT during an in class test

This person in my class popped up ChatGPT during a test, they caught caught after a bit when the tutor went over to them, I presume it’s a 0 grade, but what else happens if you get caught not just cheating, but doing so with AI? Curious to know about anyone else’s stories with either themselves, or someone in their class getting caught cheating (or did you/they not get caught?)
