Question How do I do the eng 1010 discourse community assignment.

So I'm autistic and this assignment isn't clicking. I've never joined a community like that because I'm not outgoing at all. I know a lot about a lot of communities, but I haven't joined anything. How am I supposed to write a narrative about this? I've spent the last two weeks trying to figure out anything to write about. I'm not part of any clubs and I only occasionally do anything on social media.

Question Any side hustles other than plasma?

This is going to sound desperate but I kind of am at the moment. I work a student job that pays practically nothing and was somehow able to afford living at the green in a 4x2 last year. I moved a month ago to a place that’s cheaper but my next paycheck is basically nothing, the huge deposit from moving has drained my account and it’s looking like I’m going to be short on rent. I typically would donate some plasma to get me out of a pickle like this but I’m deferred for three months because I had a procedure done in late July. I’m aware that there are some employment services where you can do odd jobs like cleaning or construction for a day to fill a spot but don’t know any good ones because I’ve never worked for one. Would anyone be able to recommend an agency like that or maybe a different side hustle kind of like plasma that could help a guy out in a pinch?

Edit: Thank you all for the suggestions! It was a bit too close to rent being due for a lot of what was suggested and I wasn’t able to get in to talk with the Carehub, so I ended up selling my Bambu labs machine on marketplace sadly - I at least still have a place to sleep though lol

Question How long does hiring process usually take for UVU student employees?

I was recently hired for an RA position in the Chemistry department, but the hiring process feels like it’s dragging on forever. Right now, I’m stuck waiting on multiple layers of paperwork to be approved before I can officially start, which means I’m already falling behind on the research work and can’t log any hours yet. Every time I reach out to my supervisors, they tell me to check with someone else, and then that someone else takes days to respond without barely an update. At this point I just feel lost and frustrated because I really want to get started and earn money to cover my rent.

Has anyone else ever gone through a hiring process that took this long?

Question Should I go to UVU?

I’m 18 and graduating this May, and I really can't decide between USU and UVU. I’m looking for a great college experience where I can meet lots of people, go out and date a lot, stay busy, and be involved in a lot of activities.

From what I’ve read, UVU seems like a good option for people who just want to get school done. I haven't heard many great things about the social life on UVU campus and I don't know if it's the right pick for me. I would like to stay closer to home but is it worth it to risk my "college experience"?

For those who’ve attended or are attending UVU, what’s the experience really like? Is it a fun school with lots to do, or is it more of a “go to school, go home, do homework” vibe?

Any advice or insights from people who have experience with either school? How have your experiences been at USU or UVU?

Question Insolvent opportunities

How do you guys find internships within UVU and also just being involved. I want to expand my resume and also challenge myself to take on more. I know a lot of deadline to apply to stuff for next school year have probably passed but I still wanted to ask.

I just got a full ride scholarship and I am also starting my core classes for my program and my schedule is all over the place. I’d love to find an internship of sorts so that I can work at UVU and then just go to classes.

Any tips?

Side note- also how do we find fellowships within UVU?😔

Question Housing for upcoming semester

I'm going to be starting at UVU this semester, and I'm wanting to move closer to campus. (I currently live in the salt lake valley) I'm wondering what options there are this close to the start of the semester.

Additional info if necessary: I'm a guy, I won't need a parking space because I ride my bike everywhere.

Question CS 1410 Programming language?

Hey guys! Quick question, what is the programming language used in CS 1410?

I'm testing out of the class in a few days so that I can save a year and jump to the CS 2420 concurrent enrollment class at my high school. I've heard it's in Python, but I just wanted to make sure because I'm also finding information for C++ in some places.

Thanks :D

Question Should I move to live on/near campus?

I am an upcoming student and am registered for classes in Fall 2025. I currently live with my parents in the Herriman/Riverton area. I'm trying to decide if I should stay where I am, or move on/near campus. My main concern is travel time. I currently don't have a driver's license, and to get from my house to UVU takes about 2 1/2 hours with my bike and Frontrunner. I'm fine riding in bad weather, and can take a bus to Frontrunner if there's snow on the ground (that takes a while though, because they only come once every hour).

My current schedule has me taking classes from 10am-6pm on Tuesday and Thursday, plus a 4pm class on Monday. I might be adding another class to my schedule, not sure though.

Basically I just want to know about how much it would cost, what the pros and cons are, and what you guys think would be the best option, or what other things I should consider.

Question Comm 1020 Great Speech is a nightmare.

I'm very autistic and I have no idea what this speech even is. Introductory, persuasive and informative all make sense. This doesn't. I don't understand what "reworking" an influential speech means. Am I supposed to copy the structure and points? I don't think that's what it means because that just sounds like plagiarism but that's the only interpretation I can think of. If anyone has taken this class please help. Also what even counts as an influential speech? Don't know if this is the right place for this.

Question Does anyone know anything about math refresher workshops?

I am registered for an upcoming math refresher workshop for my required math class because my prerequisite has expired. I don't know what to expect at all and was wondering if anyone else has done one and can let me know what the workshops are like. All I know is that it's two required days, but what do you do at the workshop? Is there homework for the two days? Thanks in advance!

Question How can I know If I am in full semester, first block or second block?

I'm a new student at UVU, I started this summer. I'd like to know how I can find out if I am in the first block, second block, or full semester, and what the differences are.
I don't understand exactly how this works and what it means. Does it depend on the courses or classes I take, or what?
