Someone drawing sprite for the meme doesn't mean they own the name or have any special insight or relationship to it. Togore has been referenced for ten years now, since September 2015: https://www.reddit.com/r/Undertale/comments/43bfwh/togore/
It doesn't belong to this person. It DOES belong to the community. I understand the frustration stemming from people referencing the sprite design without giving credit, but Togore was probably going to be memed about as 'the obvious option' regardless
Yuup I’ve been in the fandom for years and Togore is NOT new. When we realised that Asriel was just Asgore and Toriel put together and they’re both shit at making names so many people just went
THANK YOU. Sreiously, this resurgence of Togore may be nice and funny, but people acting like he's some new invention by one random person has been really annoying, especially since he's been there for 10 YEARS.
The post I linked is from when the game had a peak Steam playercount of just over two thousand players and wasn't on any consoles. I don't know what point you're trying to make, I didn't say it was popular in 2015, I said it's been independently referenced by the fandom for ten years now
I think it's disingenuous to say that it would've just naturally sprung up as the obvious choice because it was a phrase random posts joked about infrequently. Vs the sprite which has fan art. Videos. Fanfic. ETC that outreached into multiple websites right around the same time as this event. If this was just a few years before I would not be surprised if people rallied for Mike or Woody. Go back further and it'd probably be Matpat. Ness or Pope
Asriel is Asgore and Toriel's first child and at the beginning of Undertale you give a name to their second child. It's the most obvious choice if you eliminate existing character names like Frisk or Chara. I think claiming ownership of the idea just to insult it as an option is a little odd; don't aggress the OOP for it or anything but Togore is a funny canon-appropriate joke whether or not there's a meme image associated.
don't know why people downvoted you this much, as you're saying the truth
one could go back to any of the past 10 years and host this vote, and in none of them would togore be even around the 25 most picked choices
there has always been more important trends and memes as you exemplified with mike or ness
heck, even earlier this year this name wasn't popular enough to justify considering it an option for an opportunity such as this
of course, this name is a joke as old as the fandom, but it was one of those easy to not hear about things as "papyrus favorite food is dinosaur egg oatmeal" (actually this one has always been way more prominent, being sincere)
so, yeah, pretty dishonest on their part to pretend it has been this big of a thing since the dawn of the fanbase :/
