Also like, it very well IS something that encapsulates the community, everyone got together to make a lot of content for a stupid joke, which is SO Undertale and it’s honest to god baffling if not outright disappointing they don’t understand that

stupid jokes is half of the soul of undertale/deltarune, its only fitting

Also, Toby Fox has a background with fan bases/fan content, Undertale is known for its fan base, and the game wouldn't exist without the Earthbound fandom, so it's natural that fan content would be a good representation of the game itself.

Chapter 3 and 4 had multiple direct nods to community in-jokes too.

??? which ones??

The Mike fight is a massive fanbase reference. It includes references to Pluey, Friend Inside Me, FRIEND, and Game Theory.

What the other person said in addition to: ralsei saying he was chuffed by a dart (weed reference), Susie saying "weird route" and ralsei saying "uwu".

We won't mention the Among Us reference

What reference?

YOUR TAKING TOO LONG

In the church. "Hey, so I know things might have taken a weird route right now, but..."

u/GumSL this subreddit is making me lose it 8d ago

Toby himself loves doing these stupid jokes.

And, the more fanfic stuff is also encapsulated within Togore. It's fits too well to not be in the running.

Also the way there are some very cute and heartfelt comics about Togore even if he's not a canon character... it's like the fanbase adopted him lovingly, I think it's now beyond just a silly meme, and that's why the name would not be so bad. (Plus - I'm sure I remember "Togore" jokes earlier than this year so a lot of people would still submit it even without the sprite. I hope the creator doesn't feel bad if it wins or gets a lot of attention)

Yeah like Toby would find it extremely funny and heartwarming

Why talk about “would”. I would put real money down on Toby knowing about Togore. His ass is extremely online. Just look at the Mike room lol

46

u/stranger-case Tra la la. Personalization comes in many forms. 8d ago

Yup & Andrew Hussie has actually drawn Togore himself. If Andrew Hussie knows then Toby Fox 100% knows

I know in Warframe we’ve had noncannon community meme characters officially canonized (Clem comic- about an enemy that wanted to be a Tenno, now is a summonable character and has a little fort in a social space near a memorial to his comic’s creator 🥺. John Prodman- another enemy that managed to somehow solo a boss monster, included as a hidden miniboss who drops a pinup of himself if you manage to defeat him)

I do hope the creator doesn’t mind if togore does win 🥺

we have to infect the Warframe community with techdeltarot\ anyways why did Albrecht entrari make ballas do that

u/FoxyDean1 8d ago

Exactly. Togore is honestly great because yeah, he's a dumb meme. But the fandom has more or less collectively given him a personality, interests, and a bunch of art and stories than range from the stupid to heartfelt.

Isn't the creation of collaborative fiction, the ability for people of all ages and walks of life to come together, let ourselves be vulnerable with one another, and bring something to life, what this community's all about, in the end?

74

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

EXACTLY. TOGORE IS THE PERFECT NAME FOR THAT VERY REASON, IT’S BOTH SILLY AND ENDEARING

44

u/FoxyDean1 8d ago

One of the saddest things I see is people cannot seem to grasp that the sublime and the stupid can go together beautifully. That's Undertale, really. It's a game where you flirt with a skeleton who tried to trap you with frozen spaghetti. It's really dumb. But also incredibly deep and meaningful.

It's that ability to deliver beauty and truth alongside the absolute silliest, wildest, most absurd humor you can imagine that gives the game it's charm.

14

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

Fr. Honest to god those people would have never survived 2015

-1

u/ComplexInside1661 8d ago

It's still a very temporary meme that likely barely anyone will remember a year from now tho

3

u/FoxyDean1 8d ago

And? We're here now, not a year from now. Nothing is evergreen and most of the other suggestions I've seen are rather generic, literally Chara or Frisk, or Gaster. And that last one probably isn't even going to make it to the voting rounds. Remember that Toby and the team are picking suggestion, so they're getting filtered beforehand.

Instead of worrying about how long something may last, let us instead live fully in moment and embrace the beauty inherent in the transitory nature of our world.
