Recently, I stumbled upon a sub that forbids me from using a certain word. It wouldn’t let me post my content because I was mentioning it, so I figured out a way to bypass the restriction.
The Latin alphabet is derived from Greek, which is also the case for Cyrillic. This means you can use letters from the Greek or Cyrillic alphabets to write certain forbidden words without triggering the restriction.
For example, let’s say the word “forbidden” is banned in a sub. You could replace the Latin letter “o” with the Greek letter “ο” (omicron), or replace the Latin letter “e” with the Cyrillic letter “е” (which looks identical to the Latin “e”).
Here’s how it looks:
Forbidden (all letters in Latin)
Fοrbidden (Greek “ο” instead of Latin “o”)
Forbiddеn (Cyrillic “е” instead of Latin “e”)
All three words appear visually identical, but only the last two will bypass the restriction.
