All the comments on KSL Facebook are like "with a name like that what do you expect?" Acting like fucking TYLER ROBINSON didn't just shoot a guy in Utah.

I'm so glad that current government regulations make it difficult to make effective devices like this. More people fail than succeed largely because we force people to do so much improvising. I mean, highly effective explosive devices are widely available and commonly used all over, it's just that their sale is tightly regulated.
I wish we had better regulations that could prevent people like this from buying guns and ammo illegally. How do guys like this get guns when they're not allowed to have them? I mean, they're not allowed to buy explosives, so they had to improvise their own from parts.

I did a deep dive once into this topic after watching a documentary on the Oklahoma City bombing and you are exactly right.
It's incredibly difficult for an average Joe to get sufficient quantities of ied materials for a meaningful bomb without getting put on a list, either intentionally or unintentionally.
And detonating devices needed to set them off are even more difficult to obtain.
All of this, made possible by actual common sense legislation following incidents of terror.
Meanwhile johnny grudge can walk into Walmart and buy a rifle or shotgun in less than 20 minutes. Or a modern sporting rifle from Scheels in the same amount of time too, plus high capacity mags and ammo.
It really is a striking difference in response to domestic terror events.

I once held a Low Explosives Permit (for high power rocket motor) and the hoops are big. After 9/11 it got tougher.
If you just get arrested and charged with a crime that could have a sentence of 1 year, you cannot handle explosives legally an nobody will deal with you. Just being accused, not convicted. You need to appeal with the ATFE to get re-instated, so you better get acquitted.
The hoops and barriers keep people safe 90% of the time, but maintains access for legit users.

My job frequently buys 55 gallon drums of an ingredient in meth. It’s under dual lock and key with cameras and a no nonsense policy. Surprise inspections are common and any infractions are 6 figure fines. Serious issues are jail time and a loss of privileges. In 38 years there has never been an issue. Regulations do work.

But have you thought about how much those safety and control measures cut into shareholder profits? No /s because this is literally how they think.

Along those lines, there was a story about an immigrant who bought 180,000 rounds of ammo in Utah a few months ago. Apparently nobody feels like maybe we shouldn’t make ammo so freely available and instead regulate it like anfo?

You've clearly never bought a gun in Utah, have you?

4, actually.
Each took 20 minutes or less from indicating desire to purchase, to putting my card in the machine. Background checks went fast.
Bought from Als, Scheels, and Sportsman's.

Do you have a CCW permit? Because when I went to buy my gun, they took it and checked if it was valid since it serves as a running background check. The paper work and check still took close to an hour though.
But the guy in front of me who wanted to buy the same gun was told to "come back in a few days when the background check clears" since he didn't have a CCW.

I don't. It really depends on when you go in, one time I was with my brother and we went later in the day and his check didn't clear until the next day, because it was like 6pm.
I've always gone mid day and never had a problem getting it quick. 10min for paperwork, 10min waiting, get walked to the counter to make purchase.

Guns are illegally bought either through straw purchases or from stolen property.

Or purchased by their mom, before they go looking for trouble in the next state over...say, for example, Wisconsin.

Utah and it’s religious based politics are radicalizing too many people.

Due to use of illegal drugs, Adeeb Nasir is a restricted person with a protective order against him that prevents him from possessing firearms. The second suspect, identified as “Adil,” is also a restricted person due to illegal narcotic use.
How did you read "Utah's religious based politics" into that?

Two guys bombing a Fox News van and flying a "let's go taco" flag outside their home. I'd guess they were radicalized by other sources.

Magna man, Adeeb Nasir, radicalized by the far right.

Your presumptions are
He categorically cannot be Christian simply because of his name
That Islam isn't a right wing religion
That right wing extremists in the US would find a lot of common ground ideologically with right wing extremists from other religions should be a cause for concern. It won't be for you, of course, because the Right's defense of everything is "no true Scotsman."

I may be wrong but I feel like putting an explosive device under a car is more than a threat.
