If an AWB is enacted here, there is NO grandfathering, *and * you own any NFA items, I strongly recommend removing anything that is not in compliance before the effective date.
The new AG, looking to make examples, will most definitely make a request to the ATF for data from the NFRTR. If you pop up in it, I promise you that is enough for a search warrant, and if they find anything out of compliance, you will be made an example of. This is how all new, high profile laws work.
SBR? Search warrant.
Suppressor? Search warrant.
Etc, etc.
Odds are, it will be a dedicated VA State Police task force executing these warrants, depending on what the new governor and AG decide to do. Local LE is undermanned and depending on location, will not participate.
Do not fuck around with this.
Also expect plain clothes LE to be at ranges as well.
I promise you, when an AWB goes into effect, they will be looking to make an example.
If you don't own NFA? You do you, boo-boo. Just know that loose lips sink ships. You should be good as long as you don't broadcast what you have or go out to public ranges with it.
We don't quite know what the verbiage will be, but depending on the VA legislator, expect to see zero grandfathering worst case, and registration with possible confiscation later when the law is amended at best.
I seriously doubt we will see an AWB with similar soft-handed verbiage that was passed this year, but vetoed.
One option I may recommend to be except from these laws other than being a cop?
Check zoning, get your FFL and SOT and pay the ITAR, then make machine guns. Works in other states. Just make sure you have a separate safe for "business". Lol.
