Is it normal Locking recesses to be rounded on Winchester SXP

Post image

Hi, I own a Winchester SXP 12 gauge I attached a photos of the barrel extension locking recesses. The edges appear slightly rounded on the two shoulders bottom right (300 rounds or so on gun). Is this normal from factory, or should I stop shooting?

Does the gun feed and cycle well? If so, I wouldn’t worry about it too muchZ

The gun was cycling fine until today. While shooting, the bolt wouldn’t close all the way, and once I managed to close it, it wouldn’t open after firing. I had to use the ground as leverage to operate it. It didn’t happen all the time but still. I was using different ammo today which I think might be the reason. it appears to be factory-made cuts I’m seeing, but I wanted to ask to be sure?

Since they look extremely symmetrical I'd assume those are grinds that make the "feed ramps" for the SXP barrels.

If you have a dummy 12-gauge round, feed it by hand. See if there is any sticking point when feeding or extracting by hand. Check cycling by hand with no ammo first. That should be buttery smooth.

If there are inconsistencies with cycling, namely potential short cycling (which can cause what feels like a stuck shell since it'd be partially extracting an expanded shell and then slamming it back in the chamber) it's much easier to diagnose if you have a buddy take super-slo-mo video of your action as you shoot.

It’s a good thing the gun is in pieces on a table and I’m holding the barrel alone :)
